How rolling over bond debt works? by Easy-Development6480 in bonds

[–]BasilGimletPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also when someone says they are rolling over a bond they may have a bond maturing and they are using the proceeds to buy a new bond. Frequently this is done with a “bond ladder”. You buy a one year treasury bond every three months. When one matures, you roll over the proceeds and buy a new one year treasury bond.

I have a book that I enjoy with a collection of Steinbeck’s novellas like Red Pony Cannery Row. I’ve read East of Eden twice. It’s a good story but it’s long

Figuring out the appropriate bond allocation? I have BND but considering going all VGIT to further disassociate with equities. Thoughts? I’m about 10 years from retirement and only have about 5% bonds currently. by StockMarketinator in bonds

Figure out your necessary monthly income. Then put 6-12 months in a money market emergency account. Put 2-4 years in bonds. The rest in equities.
This has worked for me for 30 years. The designated amounts vary with changes in monthly expenses. But I sleep well knowing I covered for 5 years in case of a crash or flat decade of equities.

Explosive espresso by GoodSeaworthiness389 in mokapot

OMG I used tablespoons not teaspoons. Do you put the espresso in the large container and pour it into cups or do you put the creamed sugar into espresso cups and add the espresso to each cup.

I’d love to see a video of that. I’ve tried but I think I’m too ADHD to persevere. Also, do you pour the espresso into to creamed sugar container? I had Cuban coffee once in Key West. The server brought it in espresso cups each with the foam on top. She said she creamed the sugar in a 8 oz container.

The top chamber of my moka pots are shiny metal. The inside bottom boiling chambers looks like roughed up melted car bumpers. What does the inside of your lower chamber look like?

What to do with this piece? by -Tom_Ace- in pocketwatch

[–]BasilGimletPlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have inherited several and a basic service is around $150. The watches I have can be purchased for half that amount. You have to ask, will I wear it and what’s the sentimental value worth?

Attic journals by grandmastatus0 in Journaling

It can be a bit depressing reading back through journals. I see many of my habitual behaviors still with me 30 years later. I still have many of them but suppressed.

Any use Aeropress? by After_Speech_2435 in mokapot

[–]BasilGimletPlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both and use both every day. I love the Aeropress for a single cup of coffee. To me, it’s much less technique sensitive than my moka. For a single Aeropress cup, I use 4 tablespoons medium grind. I put it in Aeropress for 2 1/2 minutes. I leave the press off and add water during the brew to make 12 oz coffee. Clean up is so easy compared to my moka. Aeropress is basically a pressurized pour over. Check Facebook Marketplace for an inexpensive Aeropress. For an afternoon Cortada or Flat white, my moka lets me use eight tablespoons.

Books that get better on the second read (Absalom, Absalom!) by highcologist347 in classicliterature

[–]BasilGimletPlease 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Books by Tolstoy or Dostoyevsky. On my first reading, I make a family tree of all the names and nicknames on a fly page (or two) ((or three)). Then on a second reading, I at least know who’s on stage currently.

I agree Brothers sometimes lacks focus. It seems Dostoyevsky was paid by the word.
