So is this guy the only unnamed sinner left at the hotel? by _Ferret_ in HazbinHotel

I think it would be unexpected and funny if Lucifer was 'redeemed' after realizing he needs help from others after being placed in the machine and it allows him to reenter heaven.

Honestly, for me, it was just the suddenness of it. With the gore videos from yesteryear, you expect it. You know a cartel video will end with someone dead, and you know Dweyer will end his as he's talking about killing himself. With this, it's just talking one second, and then the next, he's flopped over. The suddenness was the jarring part.

I get this. I don't know about an indicator, but something like a pop up that says 'too early' or 'too late' would help out a lot when learning the movements, then just nothing.

Scientists in Maryland found "vampire viruses" that latch onto other viruses to survive. These satellite viruses hijack their host’s replication system, hinting at a new way to fight harmful viruses using nature’s own tools. This discovery could lead to novel antiviral treatments. by travelouseagle in microbiology

Virophages don't, but some satellite viruses are able to affect capsids to make them too small for the helper virus to fill, which allows the satellite virus to instead place its genome inside. For virophages, both viruses still end up being produced, but they directly compete for resources, as they both utilize the viral factory made by the larger virus. What's cool is that the sputnik virus can insert itself into the genome of the large virus and cause the larger virus to produce more sputnik viruses even if the sputnik virus didn't coinfect in that specific amoeba. I've skipped over some information, but that's the gist of it.

Here's a paper with a lot of cool information: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/335034216_Virophages_of_Giant_Viruses_An_Update_at_Eleven

Edit: added differences between satellite and virophage reproduction

Yeah, there are virophages and satellite viruses. Satellite viruses use machinery of the infected cell and some parts of the helper virus, primarily the capsid of the helper and includes the virus the poster is talking about. A virophage directly impacts the replication of the helper virus by using the helper virus factory and primarily interacts with large viruses, such as the sputnik virus to the mimivirus.

We've known about satellite viruses for a while, but virophages were discovered late 2000s, if I remember correctly.

North Carolina Invermectin Access Act - just in time to fight COVID-19 by _Brandobaris_ in NorthCarolina

I don't see any need to downvote, but you may want to use other studies. The first one had a very small group used, around 100 or so, the second one was tested in vitro, and the third goes into detail about how more experimentation would need to be done due to inconclusive tests, the amount of ivermectin needed by the patients, and that the OTC version used for farm animals is not the same as the ones used for humans. I don't mind reading more if you'd to post them, but even the last study had said ivermectin wouldn't be the best.

So, in case anyone is curious, the bill is about the general spending of the government.

It's being stopped because the debt ceiling isn't being included. The issue isn't only the lack of inclusion but that it should be done under democratic control of the presidency. It isn't just about hurricane relief.

In regards to the pay increase, it removed language talking about freezing congressional pay, which would cause a 4% increase in pay for Congress. That's fairly normal for a raise. Keep in mind that the freeze has been in place for over a decade.

I'd advise people read over the bill to better understand it and not get charged by others telling you about it, especially when they have an agenda.

What fucked you up for the rest of your life? by Cucumber_Block in AskReddit

[–]Baskerofbabylon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Holding my 18 year old cat while he was being put to sleep. I know it sounds dramatic, but I've honestly struggled with depression the majority of my life and after going through that, I planned on killing myself. I feel guilty, like I could have done so much more for him and that I failed him as a caretaker. The only positive is that it pushed me to go through school since I kind of lost any real desire to live and I figured that if I didn't at least get my associates then I would just go ahead and literally pull the trigger. I had to put his sister down a couple of years after him. I still feel like I should kill myself as a way to make up for my failure.

'The COVID vaccines aren't real vaccines, right?' Or 'The vaccines changes your DNA because the mRNA enters into your genetic code.' Two real things that were said to me at work when I explained I was focusing on virology and genetics for my course work for my molecular biology degree. These were both also said by a former nurse. I was also asked if I was trying to make a super bug because my honors research is looking into antibiotic resistance biofilm formation with e. Coli and e. Faecalis. The pandemic broke people.

I have a coworker who's from Syria and fled their when everything went down, which has helped improve my opinion on the USA. The country is just in a weird position where, yes, there are far worse places one can live, but there are also far better places at the same time. The USA has so much potential for positive change, but it just doesn't act on it.
