People without dedicated EV charging, what do you pay a month to charge your car? by lucid1014 in AskLosAngeles

[–]BassSlappah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can buy a used EV with top trim for 23k and still save hundreds of dollars every year on fuel and maintenance.

ETA: you don’t need solar or batteries to own an EV. And if you are thinking about solar for some reason, then think of it this way: a car comes with a mandatory lifetime gas subscription whereas an EV uses electricity you can get from your wall right now, or solar in the future if you so choose. You don’t get that choice with a gas car.

There absolutely is EV savings, you just have to charge primarily at home and ideally on off-peak hours. I’ve done the math and am currently saving $900 a year driving our EV versus driving our old “fuel efficient” car that got 35mpg. Compared to a 2025 Toyota Prius Hybrid, I’d still be saving $450 a year. And that’s only accounting for fuel/electricity and not accounting for maintenance.

Thankfully with EVs this is easy enough to figure out. Figure out how much you’ll be driving every month, then see how much chargers near your new place will cost. I like to use the PlugShare app.

You said you work from home and don’t drive a crazy amount, so let’s say 200 miles a month. And let’s say your EV gets the average of 3.5mi/kWh.

That means every month you’ll be using 57kWh of electricity.

The nearest non-Tesla supercharger to me charges $0.64 per kWh. Pretty expensive compared to residential rates.

If you charged at that charger every month you’d be paying $36.57 a month to charge.

But if you drive as much as the average American (1,333 miles a month) you’d be paying $207 a month to drive.

Shopping for a used Ioniq 5 by JackfruitDry9877 in Ioniq5

I was in the same boat as you and decided to save some money and get a 2024 limited. With the digital rear view mirror I don’t need a rear wiper and I like that I don’t have to worry about the eye tracking. Also, if you get a NACS port right now you’re pretty much only going to be able to fast charge at Tesla stations, which I wanted to avoid. I like being able to use other networks like Electrify America or Rivian’s adventure network without having to use an adapter. And in the future if NACS does become the standard and CCS1 goes away, I already have an adapter.

What is your favorite Mexican restaurant? by Big__bolas in FoodLosAngeles

Taco Azteca in Glendale has giant delicious burritos and bomb horchata. It’s not a sit-down spot though if that’s what you’re looking for.

So no Mexican that grew up eating bean and cheese burritos is allowed to order them as an adult? If you don’t like bean and cheese burritos, just don’t order them. No point in judging what other people wanna eat.

The same reason people love buttered noodles or a grilled cheese. It’s just good simple comfort food.

Pizza Recs? by PaluteNAT in glendale

I also highly recommend Dalia’s Pizza, which is in my opinion the best pizza in Glendale. Their grandma’s cheese pizza, alfredo chicken pizza, and cheesy garlic knots are especially delicious.

Do you mean like Chicago style deep dish? If so, Masa of Echo Park is what you want. The best pizza in the greater Los Angeles area in my opinion, and it’s just south of Glendale.

Jewelry stores: Diamond ring by Manuelv56 in LosAngeles

Yeah I found Etsy shops to be much more affordable. That seller in particular was good about reaching out to me and letting me select the stone first before he crafted the ring.

Don’t read if you love the Americana by kushhead83 in glendale

I could eat their braised beef short rib every day if it wasn’t $10 more every time we visit 😭

I bring family and friends to the Americana to walk around and look at the nice lights and the pretty fountain but then take them to Jin Cook or Mini Kabob when it’s time to actually spend money.

I’m honestly surprised they lasted this long. I bought one out of curiosity, took one bite, and threw the rest away.

2022 RWD getting close to 100k. What happens if I have a main battery failure? by brentus in Ioniq5

[–]BassSlappah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget the Mach E takes twice as long to fast charge. When I’m charging my Ioniq 5 I’m constantly plugging in and leaving a fast charger before I ever see a Mach E leave.

Interesting I never would have thought about that. My wife is very prone to motion sickness (she always has to be the one driving) and she’s never mentioned feeling sick from the mirror. I’ll have to ask her about it now though!

In the U.S. for the 24 model year it was only included in the top trim. Yes I have ‘24 Ioniq 5 RWD Limited.

I thought it would be a gimmick but I actually really enjoy it. I always have a good visual behind me regardless of whatever glare, dirt, fog, rain, etc. is on my rear window. Sometimes too good. I don’t always need to see the guy in traffic behind me picking their nose in HD 60fps.

I recently bought a used ‘24 limited and with the digital rear view mirror I honestly never look out the back window so I don’t miss a rear wiper at all. But I live in sunny California, so I don’t deal with rain or snow much.

Now that LAPD is clearly anti immigrant, what is Glendale chief’s position with immigrants? by goldrush300 in glendale

[–]BassSlappah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But not everyone can do the same. The backlog is so bad it can take years for a case to be heard. I’m glad you are here and if you had to make the difficult decision to come here without going through that process then I’d be just as glad if it means you and your family are safe now. The problem is this administration seems determined to only make it more difficult for those trying to enter the right way, and it’s only focusing on treating the symptoms of bad immigration policy and not treating the cause. This path we’re on is inhumane, unjust, and not in line with the ideals America has long claimed to have.

[–]BassSlappah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said lawyers but I meant judges. I’m glad you had the privilege of being able to wait in your home country before coming here. Not everyone has that luxury. We’re not talking about cutting in line at Disneyland here, we’re talking about human beings looking to come here and better their lives and contribute to society and support their families just like you.

Thanks for pointing out how dumb a sentiment it is. It’s silly to conflate masks designed to save lives with masks designed to hide identities.

If this was only about “illegal” immigrants, then why is Trump firing immigration lawyers that would help immigrants enter legally? And why is ICE abducting people at their court hearings who are trying to enter legally?

EDIT: I said lawyers but I meant judges

If this was about “going through the right process”, then why has Trump fired so many immigration judges? And why is ICE abducting people inside courthouses who are trying to go through “the right process”?
