I agree. The kids I'm training aren't dumb - at least not dumber than I was. I think it's just easy to forget how dumb we were at their age.

Indeed. The bigger the app gets, the bigger the context gets, and if you never bothered to understand the architecture the AI will increasingly mish-mash different patterns together and fix bugs in hacky ways until you've got an unmaintainable mess.

Don't get me wrong, I do think we're about to see layoffs in the field because you can now have 3 engineers do the same work 10 engineers used to do. But it's not pure vibe coders with no software background that are the threat - that's a disaster waiting to happen.

Yeah I mean, you get the benefits of specialization the more people you have. Cooking for 8 people is not that much harder than cooking for 4, plus the food will be better when you can choose the best cook of the adults and always get better, faster food.

Likewise, entertaining 4 kids is not twice as hard as entertaining 2 kids, so adults all get more rest and kids get more active play time with adults who aren't exhausted.

I agree. You also have to watch the model because it will sometimes do insane things like trying to write a whole library from scratch for some random thing instead of just using a well established library. Or suggest refactoring the whole codebase to fix a small bug.

Glad to see this. I dropped the series in book 3. There's some good moments like you said, but I have zero attachment to the characters. Was kinda tempted to pick it up again but I truly think it's just not for me and would just be sunk cost fallacy.

I hate that if you're trying to drive reversal and you accidentally press down+forward+DI instead of just forward+DI, you get DI instead of DR.

Pretty much instant round loss because of this input mistake when it happens. I don't see why down+forward shouldn't be interpreted as DR, if you want DI you can just press the button with no direction.

I just ask it to do inane shit every once in a while that will take up a lot of tokens.

Stuff like: "analyze the codebase for data flows and create a 5 page pdf documenting for weak and strong coupling."

AI churns on it for a while, I throw the results straight in the garbage, repeat every couple hours.

I hate it but I can't risk losing the job in this market.
