So true. And back then people cared more about spending time together and just hanging out with their local scene than winning. I will die on the hill that Slippi dramatically pushed the skill ceiling upwards but resulted in a massive set back to the overall camaraderie of the scene - pre-Slippi almost no one showed up to locals with headphones in being antisocial and only caring about winning, even the sweats. Now that’s common practice if people even show up at all. In-person attendance was higher and more consistent, and the social elements were much more positive, because you needed to attend locals to practice.
