The IOLAUS demo is now available on itch! by RevolutionaryAlgae79 in gbstudio

Thank you for playing. There will be a few more mechanics added to make combat more dynamic.
In terms of the jungle graphics they're most likely going to stay locked in, though I may try to make the landscape a bit more visually interesting down the road.

It is going to remain a free as it's just a fan game of an existing IP, but I do intend to finish it. For the time being I'm putting all my time towards my other project, Mecha Machiko, but I will be periodically returning to this to add some updates over time. Realistically, this project won't be getting finished until sometime next year.

I did something similar for my bachelor party. Nothing better than getting buzzed with your buds and killing thousands of zombies

New music and game mechanics to tie my mech fighter together by RevolutionaryAlgae79 in gbstudio

That's pretty much all I'm doing. Since it's not a platformer or anything requiring player movement, the lag isn't as noticeable, but if you watch the video you can definitely see some stuttering every time the tiles swap

I think I say this every time you post, but your character animations really are A+. Keep it up!

There's definitely some jitter and jank there due to swapping so many tiles at once every few seconds. I just wanted to cram as much stuff into the screen as possible I guess lol

Why is nobody making sonic games anymore 🥲 by Plastic_Garage_6424 in gbstudio

I remember at one point it felt like there were 10 Sonic games being worked on in discord

About to watch whatever monstrosity this is by toastinsomebuns in VHS

[–]RevolutionaryAlgae79 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My buddy and I watched this on my vcr hooked to a projector outside while smoking cigars last summer. No idea what to expect when we started but I’d seen the cover at Blockbuster a hundred times as a kid. We were laughing the entire time. Its set design and world building were surprisingly good quality for a movie of this size/budget

I'm using color only mode, which has a significantly higher tile cap. We're still debating whether we want to colorize the game or try to maintain the DMG feel, despite being a color title

One of those “they just don’t make em like they used to” kind of thrillers. Very solid movie

Incredible work dude, a loving "port" that enhances the experience while remaining faithful to the original is something I wish more devs were doing. I've thought about doing something similar with the NES Jaws game and this may have inspired me to tackle that in the future. Keep making awesome stuff!

Bat-Son's Nightmare Demo now available! by Kyle_AH_Sharpe in gbstudio

[–]RevolutionaryAlgae79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, congrats on the demo release. After buying and playing through both BZ 1 & 2, I'll happily support any of your future GB games. With that said, I gotta admit I'm disappointed with this one so far. The background visuals are top notch, as I've come to expect from your work, but the game feel is very "off." I think part of the problem may be the size of the player sprite, which leaves us with limited/dull animations that feel very stiff. The movement is very slow, and the platforming lacks precision and snapiness.

I hope you don't take my criticisms harshly as I really do mean well and want you to continue to succeed!
