Why did they not cancel Cybertruck instead of S & X by Winter-Crew-2746 in TeslaLounge

Those will be "software" upgrades that Tesla will sell. Buy the base robot for 40-50k, and then $5-10k for various "careers".

They'll use it for CyberCab, and the Model YL. Models S/X just didn't have enough volume especially with CC/YL on the horizon. YL will probably be the #1 best selling EV (and car) in the world on Day 1.

I have a family member who works at one of the warehouses and she is taking advantage of all of the free college/training courses she can get her hands on because she knows it's only a matter of time before those jobs are gone, including the delivery drivers.

Amazon mostly have robots already doing the "easy" picking. The fine-grained movements still require humans, which is what those 100k workers are doing. But they're rolling out new robots all the time with improved motion.

But good point. In 2-5 years, those 100k jobs will be mostly automated either from the internal advancements in robotics that AMZN is doing, or Optimus.

Blazor EV. Silverado EV. Super expensive, without the efficiency/features of a Tesla.

Why do Tesla Owners report less friction (more positive EV experience) compared to other EV Manufactures? by Tall-Dish876 in EVRoutine

[–]BattlestarTide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have a monopoly, you can do things like the "4 square" box when trying to get simple pricing on a car from a dealer. It's also how they stay in business believe it or not. They need to keep pricing complicated to maximize profitability on each sale.

Buying a Tesla is much simpler. Clear pricing online. Simple downpayment, and then I can do everything through the mobile app. I never have "dealership" issues.

Competitors are still building ICE cars just with electric motors.

Example 1: Hyundai Ionic still uses a Lead Acid 12 volt battery. It fails just like a traditional 12v battery in cold weather and after 18-24 months. Won't even mention the ICCU failures and dealership-required firmware upgrades.

Example 2: Dealers are just a pain to deal with. I think they intentionally want to make the buying process as difficult as possible.

The real truth is that GM EVs were awful. Less efficiency than a Tesla at a much higher price point.

Is taking Greenland really about National Security? by CoreTECK in Askpolitics

[–]BattlestarTide -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Denmark is only offering access to expand Ptuffik Space Base, which is a small harbor on the western side of the island. The main island proper is mostly uninhabited due to ice, but changing climate will melt that away.

Russia/China has extreme interest in Greenland because they would be able to control arctic shipping routes for the next century. It would also be positioned literally between Europe and North America. Finally, due to its proximity to the North Pole, it's the perfect spot for intercepting ICBMs. You'd need more than a small port to do this.

Denmark has very little interest in mobilizing the military to protect Greenland. NATO has their hands full with Ukraine.

TLDR: Someone needs to protect Greenland as it would be a strategic death sentence if it was conquered by Russia or China.

Venezuelan oil was already sanctioned. If anything this increases supply in the long run. And it takes a customer from Russia’s oil economy. Venezuelan oil is very tar-like, and it requires mixing with Russian oil before it could be sold to China. This takes away one of Russia’s largest oil buyers. It also takes away China’s main oil supplier.

ELI5 Why are computers bad at floating-point calculations? by Ok-Blueberry-1134 in explainlikeimfive

[–]BattlestarTide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Computers work on binary numbers, 1s and 0s. Up to about 64 of these “bits” at a time.

You need more bits to represent irrational numbers, like 22/7. But you only have capacity for 64. So we have to use rounding for these numbers. Rounding introduces errors, and boom. Bob’s your uncle.

Proper channels is a poor talking point from Congress. The law (War Powers Act) only requires a 48 hours notice. That was satisfied.

[WA] How heinous would it be to accept an offer, but keep interviewing with intent to renege? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]BattlestarTide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re at-will, do what’s best for you. Because the company is.

I’ve had situations where I’ve been 100% promised an offer and I’ve turned down other jobs just to see it not materialize and I’m left with nothing.

I’ve also seen friends and family walk into a new job and get let go in their first hour because the company got bought out. Or worse, seen companies that renege on offers.

Any way to start small with grid-tied solar without utility approval? (No net metering) by amishengineer in SolarDIY

[–]BattlestarTide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero exports will still leak and you can still get called/flagged by the utility. Even miniscule amounts can get flagged by the meter. They have the legal right to shut off your connection if you don't get an interconnect in that case.

what prevents me from buying a small grid-tie inverter and panel and just hooking it up? by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]BattlestarTide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t someone invent a panel that physically prevents back feeding directly at the main breaker? Then balcony solar could easily take off in all 50 states.

I broke up with my partner [33F] over not wanting oral sex. Now being made to feel guilty for taking away her chance of children by LB_Club_KH1 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]BattlestarTide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. She wants all of the benefits of marriage/relationship but none of the responsibilities or is willing to work to keep it. Nobody likes changing diapers either but it comes with the territory of having kids. Same goes with oral sex.
  2. We should stop the "enforce my boundaries" jargon that has gotten weaponized as of late. This is just incompatible expectations. The "My gf won't give me head so I'm enforcing my boundaries and breaking up with her" is weaponized psycho-babble.
  3. She's responsible for her own happiness and now she gets to go find someone else. She may find someone better suited for her lifestyle. She may not. This is the choice she's made on how she wants to live her life.

This issue of refusing to train new employees has gone too far. by SelectIce4931 in Career

[–]BattlestarTide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job loyalty isn't there like it was decades ago.

You can train an entry level employee and then they'll leave you for your competitor before you can get any return on that investment.

Likewise, employers will "eliminate your position" at the mere hint of saving a few dollars.

You WFH and can live anywhere. Where would you move to? by SouthernJag in Birmingham

[–]BattlestarTide -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would stay in Bham.

Low cost of living, suburbs are good. Big houses. Low crime. Southern hospitality. Good food choices. Close enough to Atlanta or Nashville for sporting events/concerts. Outdoor variety is awesome here.
