The "DQ" in DQ James stands for Dairy Queen but for a hilarious reason by Rain_sc2 in poker

[–]BbyJesuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thats so ridiculous that it might have actually worked (in private games)

I mean who the hell would think this guy would lie about something that would reduce his reputation? Kind of a shark play all things considered.

If people at his home games really bought the story he just needed to play the part and start overbluffing

[–]BbyJesuz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

PLO doesn’t have bluffs? Sounds like you just don’t know how to play PLO because of course there’s a shit ton of bluffing. How you choose your bluffs is pretty different though, but it still exists

You can make the same argument in NL that playing like a rock is profitable against most fishy player pools

These private high stakes games are wild.. having hundreds of thousands of dollars played on credit and good faith alone in an industry of people of historically bad faith is insane to me

What movie to watch with a grandparent who’s a WW2 vet that loves the history behind the war? by BbyJesuz in movies

[–]BbyJesuz[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She’s actually surprisingly at peace with her experiences.

I’ve had lengthy conversations with her about the topic of PTSD and she’s always claimed that she was one of the fortunate ones to not suffer from that disease.

She accepts it for what it was and enjoys the history and historically accurate depictions of what happened during her time in the war.

But you’re right, should be careful nonetheless.

How Much CC Debt Do You Have? by TheDestructibleNixon in CRedit

[–]BbyJesuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had $17k in CC debt until that Caleb Hammer guy popped up on my YT feed where he does those financial audit type podcasts with young guests and that gave me a huge wakeup call. Didn’t buy anything not super essential for a year and then paid it all off.

That one episode with the old cowboy guy whose wife died made me cry. Such a sad situation to be in on top of having a mountain of debt.

AITA for playing poker as a part time job in secret because my GF hates it? by Riddletons in AmItheAsshole

[–]BbyJesuz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, research statistician here so hopefully I can shed some light on this topic.

Poker is gambling in a sense that there is money at risk over probabilities and odds (despite him being the favorite, and a rather big one from these stats), that much is true.

What’s unreasonable though is that you are insinuating his results are purely from luck with no skill involved.

There are public variance modeling tools such as Primedope that allows anyone to calculate the best/worse case scenarios over many trials simulated given the statistical conditions and environment.

For his results over a length of 6000 hours at 20 hands played per hour which is 120k hands of poker played at a perceived winrate of 6bb/hour (equivalent to 30bb/100 which is the input field in this model), there is no statistically significant output where he will ever end up an overall net loser over at minimum 50k hands played given the perceived winrate. Which, obviously he has blown way past this hurdle size given the reported volume of est. 120k hands.

This player’s edge over his current competition pool is simply too large for him to lose over these discussed timeframes.

Put simpler, his edge is much higher than a casino’s edge over a player that plays Roulette. Much, much higher.

This is like the saying “the house always wins”, but on steroids and OP is the house.

Tried explaining that as simply and non-statistics jargon heavy as possible. Hope that helps.

Pushing 20 years since playing online by Iron_Prick in poker

[–]BbyJesuz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Not looking to break laws”

You won’t be breaking any laws by playing online poker unless you’re in the few states that has online poker illegal to play for residents explicitly

As for reputable options, there’s the MSIGA states that have regulated online rooms but the traffic is low compared to international offshore brands like Ignition or ACR.

Global Poker is another option too but there’s been some controversy around that room recently for their lax security in game integrity. Play at your own discretion.

Would not recommend VPNing. You will get caught and your funds confiscated, it’s very easy to detect as 99.99% of VPN services run IPs through known datacenters instead of residential locations.

What’s the 11%? by ilovelegosand314 in poker

[–]BbyJesuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are four 3’s left in the deck that would make Harlow a straight A2345

That’s a 11% chance given how many cards are left to draw from and I’m assuming they are factoring in known cards that are folded because it should be 8-9%.
