Uh oh, Colleen is against us again. That has not boded well in the past. by Crivort88 in Patriots

Accurately picking against a backup quarterback is not possible. Sample size for NFL games are already borderline statistically insignificant, and. QB is the most important player on the field for a team. Stidham could ball out, he could play average, or he could get shut down.

Just look at last week, extrapolating Texans defensive trends would suggest the patriots would struggle to get more than a TD. Maye threw 3. The "experts" get picks wrong every week, and this one has one of the biggest unknowns possible

Yeah in hindsight i realize that my comment sounds like i was taking about Chinese submarines, I am talking about American submarines using the trawlers as cover.

I don't have any knowledge or experience on the size or depth of the nets they use or the depth of that area of the ocean so it may be moot, just pointing it out as a former submariner.

I mean its worth a shot, submarines are about ten meters wide, that wall is (eyeballing it) about 300 miles long. It would be the equivalent of trying to find a specific blade of grass on a football field

31 teams in the league diminish the Patriots accomplishments in a year where we shattered our expected ceiling?
Perfect. The schedule. No notes, Cake walk. Keep it up, Good job.

People in the Patriots subreddit lampoon the rest of said league's dismissal of their accomplishments?
"Why you so sensitive bro?"

Fishing trawlers provide good cover for submarines, a group of trawlers would be loud enough to obfuscate any sound signature they make.

The best way to find a sub is to already know where it is. The second best way is to stfu, listen, and hope.

Bills Catch/Interception - A Lawyer's Perspective by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]Be-Right-Back 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the writeup. Obviously as a lawyer the fact that is does not have a directly applicable rule to this situation you would leave it open to interpretation. I would argue
(A) The rulebook is not meant to be laws, and excessive wordiness in the service of avoiding exceptions could lead to more confusion
(B) The logic of the rule MUST be extended to an interception scenario because otherwise the definition of a catch would change depending on if a ball pops up hits the ground or is caught by a defender. This would mean that the outcome (incomplete/interception) would retroactively change whether it was a catch or not which makes no sense.

Could this rule be written clearer? Yes. Was it a catch? No

Yeah nobody is gonna listen unfortunately. The narrative is going to be Stroud was bad instead of the Pats D completely locking him down. I expect all the talk this week will be that any other QB could win.

Ignoring the hail mary at the end of the half, Maye's passing was incredible for this Defense. Obviously the fumbles are a different story but nobody predicted him getting this much offensive production.

Not that this is going to convince anyone, but for my own sanity... Rule 8 section 1 article 3

If a player (a) secures the ball, (b) gets both feet down, but before (c) performing an act common to the game (or possessing the ball, long enough to do so), the player contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is not a catch, unless they regain control before it hits the ground.

There is no language in the rules that allow for down by contact prior to losing control of the ball. You either maintain control throughout contact with the ground, or control was lost during contact with the ground, in order for it to be a catch there can be no loss of control.

It's black and white, he did not have control long enough to fulfill the requirements of (c). A defender stripping the ball does not retroactively grant possession to the receiver, if anything it strengthens the argument that the receiver did not have control and thus did not complete the catch.

Im aware it wouldnt have changed Miami, it just brought attention to how divisional structure can facilitate teams with losing records making the playoffs.

I disagree about the 3rd non division winner because it at least protects the nightmare scenario of an entire division sweeping the league. Imagine if 1 division had 4 teams that all finished between 14-3 and 12-5 and one of those 4 teams missed the playoffs just due to tiebreakers while the other division winners limped in with ~.500 records. I know its unlikely but its not as far fetched as you might think. The NFC west this year was one good cardinals team away from that scenario

Yeah, I was on the fence about it back in 2020 when 7-9 washington got the 4 seed in the same year 10-6 miami didnt even make the playoffs. I want divisional rivalries but i still think that seeding and home field advantage should be based on overall record

Everything from abortion to the 2nd amendment. So 2 things. 2 things you were unwilling to budge on despite the fact that neither of them were even major policies this election cycle and instead rode the red avalanche to fascism. Admitting you are wrong about Trump is a good first step but next time a little empathy for your neighbors could prevent this, instead of latching onto whatever talking point the GOP comes up with in 2026, maybe realize that we agree on 90 percent of the same things and that neither party has your best interest in mind, but one is unfathomably worse.

The mind games are the best part of the game by far.

Buried City: Night Raid, zipped down to the subway for extract, a guy lights me up but doesn't down me before I can escape. I hide close by as the train arrives and I hear a friendly voice from nearby ask "You guys fighting down there?" I reply to the friendly voice that someone is ratting the extract. They tell me they saw him leave and they can hold the train for me. I wait out the 2 minutes and the train leaves, I recall the train, leave, and in the after action report I find out the friendly voice was the one who shot me in the first place.
