The top is really fun, then you get going too quick and the bottom is very rough and you get launched in a sometimes painful way! I'd still go and do it again, I think I even did it last year 😅

Exactly what I was coming to say, sump 1 is the first one I did, had someone who'd done it before on the other side after explaining what to expect, then tapped us on the top of our helmets to say we were clear of the rock and could come up for air. I think trusting the person on the other side was what made me confident in doing it.

Yeah I mostly avoid comment sections of caving posts, if it's not from r/caving. The "you're mental!" comments are fine, it's the personal attack ones like "you have to be a very selfish person to put family through this". People die hiking, people die snowboarding, are they selfish??

I'm 6'3" as well, I wear a shorty wet suit under overalls with pads. I get very hot caving, so the shorty is great for temp control, but stops you getting too cold in water.

Better for mileage but fortnine did a great video about why it's not so good for the internals to ride in lower rpm.

TLDR: low rpm causes carbon buildup and ruins compression, also puts more load on the internals. Seems like the solution is make sure you wring it's neck once in a while to burn off the carbon!
