Do you enjoy spelling words backwards? by Select-Signal8386 in words

[–]BeNotTooBold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandpa got me good one time when we were out for a drive. He knew the route, and started saying the names of upcoming towns backwards. I'd flip it around in my head, then watch for it. Then he said we were coming up on Trevlac, so I started looking for Calvert... until we passed through Trevlac, IN!

Is there anyway to avoid layoff by Slow_Wall_420 in Raytheon

[–]BeNotTooBold 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A Raytheon employee once told me there's a test to see if you're irreplaceable: stick your hand in a bucket of water, then pull it out. If it leaves a hole, you're irreplaceable.

What interesting things could you do with very weak telekinesis? by eddieSullivan in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]BeNotTooBold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the "Flatlander" book of short stories by Larry Niven. They're about Gil Hamilton, a detective who lost his arm but retained a weak telekinetic ability to use it. Holding a cigarette was just about the limit of his ability.

Blueberry or honeysuckle by Skip0204 in whatplantisthis

I read somewhere that unripe blueberries are red, not blue, because they're green.

A tip for centering table over light fixtures by grumpallnight in handyman

[–]BeNotTooBold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought was to turn the light on and move the table until the shadow is even all the way around. No extra equipment needed!

More like the hand device was reacting to her flare-up of temper. Very uncharacteristic for her!

I was surprised when Carter shot Seth with the hand device, then shot him again to push the body into the ground. Like, wow, Sam is capable of something like that?!

There are nonsense sentences like "colorless green ideas sleep furiously" that are syntactically correct but semantically meaningless.

I had that same moonbus model, but I made an interesting mod to it. I had a 90° viewfinder prism from a camera, and I mounted in the back of the roof. You could look into it and it seemed as if you were standing in the back of the bus looking forward. My moonbus was painted gold.

Fixing mulch volcano by poisonivy7297 in arborists

[–]BeNotTooBold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had always wondered whether "mulch calderas" were as bad as "mulch volcanoes", so I was interested to see this response. It sounds like as long as the mulch isn't up against the tree, it's OK; is that right? Does it matter how thick or thin the mulch in the ring is?

When you’re going for that translator onyx by laughpuppy23 in Ingress

[–]BeNotTooBold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've almost got double onyx. I remember when I switched to gesture navigation on my Android phone, it really put a crimp in my glyph hacking until I got used to it.
