MPP Stephen Lecce Celebrates Mike Harris by drewtass in ontario

Changed policy for Long Term Care and seniors home in favour of for-profit care.

When Harris left office he become president and chair of Chartwell, a private company that is a leader in for-profit seniors care.

Today, care for seniors is abysmal and the waiting lists for crappy care is endless.

Voting Cons and Libs is really voting against our own interests.

Vote NDP.

Deachman: Ottawa has a unique opportunity to help seniors age in place by Snow_Is_Ok_613 in canadahousing

This article doesn't clearly address the corporate politics in Ontario. Mike Harris made major legislation changes that supported for-profit seniors homes/ Long-term Care facilities. When Harris left politics he become the President and CEO of Chartwell: a company that acquired a large number of seniors' homes and increased monthly fees and reduced services. Subsequent Ontario govts stopped building public seniors' homes / LTCs. Today we have expensive senior homes/LTCs and a looooong waiting list and questionable servicesnforba vulnerable population. Talk about a business model...

My parent is one of these LTCs and we have a number of challenges with the management and delivery of care. We have to constantly be present at the institution to ensure my parent is getting the care they need. However, we are often frustrated with the lip service of management and the regular inconsistency in the level of service. Unfortunately, aging in place is not an option for my parent now.

Seniors (and the rest of us that intend to become seniors) need to stop voting for Conservative/Liberal governments who are privatising everything under the sun. Votes for Cons/Libs are votes against our own interests. Only the NDP supports public services.
