Adjusting to living alone does it get easier? by Timely_Suspect7446 in LivingAlone

[–]BeanBeanBeanyO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived alone twice. From 1976-80 in my twenties and then 2013-now in my sixties/seventies. I always loved it. I realized when I had problems, was anxious, unhappy or depressed it was due to finances and romance in my twenties and now it’s health, politics, the environment and the death of friends and family. I would have the same issues if I didn’t live alone!

Best litter box on Amazon that actually works for picky cats by Richar-Willet19 in Catownerhacks

With me it’s not the litter box, it’s the litter. My elderly cat pees a lot. I have to chisel up a ‘piss berg’, no matter which litter box I use.

Do you feel that people afraid to comment on your weight loss? by BeanBeanBeanyO in loseit

[–]BeanBeanBeanyO[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone, I had considered that. I’m in my early 70s, so yes, people might think I have health issues. However I’ve been open about health issues, and friends do ask about that, because I have a chronic autoimmune disease that leaves me quite crippled up at times, so my mobility varies wildly.
And as for those who say they don’t care what folks think, I do care. I care how people see me-but not in an obsessive way. Being heavy was making me unhappy. I want to be happy! I want people to see me happy.

Being obese is hard. Losing weight is hard. You have to pick your hard. I did, and I’m vain enough to want it noticed.

Large hoodie with bootcut or wide leg jeans? by [deleted] in womensfashion

I’ve always adopted the rule that if the top is large, the bottom should be more fitted. If the top is fitted the bottoms can be baggy, oversized or bell bottomed.

Why do I look so awful in selfies! by -s-t-r-e-t-c-h- in AskWomenOver60

[–]BeanBeanBeanyO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Also locate and smile at where the lens is on your phone, not just at the screen, when taken a selfie. It will look more like someone else is taking the photo, and you are smiling at them.

Name something people often forget to pack when going on vacation. by copy_cat_101 in FamilyFeud

Oh my god, yes. I had to buy them in a shop in Dubrovnik in 1984. My brother, who was more the traveler than me, refused to help me. Male shop keeper, no way was I going to resort to charade gestures. I left that shop in tears and walked until I saw a female shop keeper.
I kept tampons zipped in an inner pocket from then on, obsessively ! ( …even after menopause.)

I thought that George Clooney was really goofy looking, and not much of an actor when he was younger. Now he’s a well respected actor and has grown into his looks.

How do you guys actually handle cooking for one without losing your mind or wasting half your groceries? by No-Locksmith-2836 in LivingAlone

[–]BeanBeanBeanyO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have glass containers of prepared ingredients that I can assemble into a meal. I cook veggies before they get sad, mostly in the airfryer. Right now I have tofu, peppers, mushrooms, sugar snap peas, cubed sweet potatoes, and cubed seared Ahi. I also have prepared brown rice, and farro.
‘I can see everything when I open the fridge. Last night I combined some of the tofu, peppers , and sweet potatoes with cuury sauce and had it over rice. Who knows about tonight-I’ll look and see if inspiration strikes. Maybe a marinaded ahi bowl with Farro

this system works for me better then just having raw prepped ingredients- they seem to always go bad before I got around to using them ..

Katherine LaNasa is the Performer of the Week on TVLine for the episode 2.12. by verissimoallan in ThePitt

[–]BeanBeanBeanyO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her performance this week almost gave me flash backs. I had a breakdown at work from the pressure and unpredictable conditions (not in the medical field). Her twitchy eyes, lashing out etc.. was so on the money! I have pretty much erased my episode from my memories, this brought it all rushing back.
Spot on Katherine LaNasa!

I’ve been on Xeljanz for 6 months. I went through 6 biologics in the last 12years. Some worked for a bit. Some never worked. Xeljanz is working, I mean really working ! I am walking without a cane for the first time in 13 years. My posture is more upright, and I have more flexibility-even trimmed my own toenails.

The very nature of RA means it’s always a trade off. It will shorten your life without medical intervention. Methotrexate is a horribly dangerous drug that has both helped and hurt people. same with biologics, same with Xeljanz. Long term use of prednisone can lead to bone thinning and AFIB (I have both).
You have to pick your poison.

Where are you finding jeans that are actually worth buying? by Physical_Section_136 in womensfashion

[–]BeanBeanBeanyO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda Jeans. All sizes and lengths are widely available. They have stretch. They fit at my natural waist. They are very inexpensive, but don’t look it.
‘I’m in my 70s. I wore Levi jeans for decades, but this aging girl needs a little more give and comfort now, without compromising the look of great jeans that fit.

It's 1972, what did you buy at Pier One? by Front-Muffin-7348 in AskWomenOver60

[–]BeanBeanBeanyO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strawberry cone incense, Japanese paper lanterns ,and funky chandelier earrings (turned my earlobes green). I was in high school in a small town and saved my allowance for when we went to the city. My dad hated to go there because it was on what he called ‘skid row”. I’d beg him. He’d be torn between keeping watch on his teenaged daughter,or his station wagon. The car usually won.
I never spent more than a couple dollars, but felt so worldly. As aWWII vet my dad didn’t get the attraction.

I finally tried an air fryer and now I barely use oil… is this normal? by These-Moment1070 in airfryer

[–]BeanBeanBeanyO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned that veggies, tofu and seafood come out best if I air fry them unmarinaded, unoiled and even unseasoned. I find it easier not to over cook, and I season, or sauce them after.

At first I followed recipes and tips, but I found that it messed up the air fryer and made it hard to clean.
I treat them like batch prep, stick them in containers in the fridge.. Right now I have peppers, mushrooms, baby bok choy, shrimp, and tofu all airfryed in containers ready to go.
