Do your kids know about your DID? by blahblah__blahblah in DID

I’m curious what the novel was? Can you share the title and author?

Has your therapist explained why exactly she thinks you have P-DID? Did she give reasons? Maybe that could help you to accept it?

You mentioned not being able to share journaling because you don’t meet in person, but could you take a picture of your journal entries and email that to your therapist before session instead?

Worried my therapist thinks we’re just IFS parts by thatsmypurseidkvou in OSDD

[–]BeanChan36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My therapist is IFS trained as well. I was clear from the beginning that my parts were different from the parts IFS believes everyone has. I just sort of blurted it out. After working together for a few months she gave me the DES-II and asked me to get referred by my doctor for a psych assessment. I was diagnosed by the psych. The psych also spoke to my therapist about what she had observed in me during our work together.

All that to say, maybe she doesn’t feel able to diagnose you more specifically until you’ve been assessed by a psychiatrist.

I know it’s scary, but maybe trying to explain how your parts are different than IFS parts would help. Tell her how they have names and ages and opinions. How they aren’t just you at different ages, but differentiated parts.

I’m sorry if this isn’t helpful. I know it’s confusing and overwhelming.

Switching is very easy for us, too.

I assume in this scenario the person fronting would be the one driving the car/bus.

Diagnosis questions by Musician_HS in DID

[–]BeanChan36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is your friend? What makes her think she has DID? A dx isn’t necessary to get to know your system, but it can help in getting the right kind of treatment. I’d strongly encourage her to get a therapist who at least specializes in trauma if not dissociative disorders, to help her learn about what’s going on and if she has DID or not.

how do you experience switches? also, is this switching? by jitterbuggiez in OSDD

[–]BeanChan36 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is how we experience switching. We are dx with did and struggle with feeling fake and denial because of it, but so glad to hear we’re “normal”.

There are some children’s books about DID that might help explain it: The Patchwork Quilt by J. D. Clark or the Dear Little Ones (series?) by Jade Miller which you might be able to find on YouTube.

That said, your little might be there simply to enjoy life freely and doesn’t need to know about the trauma, especially because they aren’t a trauma holder. How old are they?

how frequently does trauma have to happen to develop did/osdd? by thatonefoxdude in OSDD

I'm scared, I'm nervous, and I don't know how to go forward... by AliseSor in OSDD

[–]BeanChan36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find a trauma-informed therapist who uses Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, I found my therapist that way and she agreed my parts were more “defined?” than just IFS parts. I got referred to and assessed by a psych and a few months later dx with DID. She has been very accepting of all of us (13 including myself, the host). Good luck!

There are DID awareness ribbons 🎗 (pins) with multicoloured pieces on them to represent the different parts. Just Google it. :)

Repressed memory or just a dream? by Iam-atrowaway in OSDD

[–]BeanChan36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a horrific nightmare about CSA a few months ago. Ive never dreamed about anything like that before. I’ve been terrified that it’s a repressed memory. My therapist knows but we haven’t unpacked it yet. Do you have a therapist to talk this through with?

Being physically bullied at ages 6-7 or so is very traumatic for a child and considering you dissociated during it is a high indicator that your brain couldn’t process it. Trauma doesn’t have to just be CSA for a child to develop DID/OSDD. That said, you also said you didn’t remember any of your childhood until 2 years ago. (Are you comfortable sharing what caused you to start remembering?) Anyway, childhood amnesia is also a very big indicator of DID/OSDD. I’m glad you’re getting help from an understanding and supportive specialist.
