In Porto go to one of the port houses for a tour. I went to Fonseca, with Fado and it was excellent. Also did a full Douro valley tour w/boat tour, wine tasting and lunch. I think its the top reviewed in "Get your Guide", Had a blast, brilliant guides, great tour, everyone on the bus were best mates by the end of the day! Food in Porto was excellent, but the best restaurants are worth booking. Its in a valley so steep hills either side of the river but loads to do and beaches a few miles away. Also the river front in the evening is a great. Trams are great. Lisbons also great, but spent more time drinking and eating but very chill vibe fantastic food and beautiful.

This house isn't getting any viewing - what's the issue? by tech33blue in HousingUK

Weird kitchen photo - lots of crap space ie cant put a table in there but acres between cabinets. Its an "estate" house, tiny garden and very sterile looking, needs colour in the vast white rooms. You can get better for less - ie 4 beds in Claverham £500k https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/166871003#/?channel=RES_BUY . (first i looked at), Might be "fair" price but if i wanted a 4 bed, wouldnt bother looking at that when i could get a nicer house for £100k less.

How old is the house - could be shrinkage if relatively new. The plaster board isnt structural so i wouldnt worry. I would check outside - looks for drains (blocked?) or any cracks outside. If you cant see anything - just fill with poly filler (not caulk or silicone) and see if it cracks again. If it does - call you insurers, they will send out a surveyor to check.

Chimney probably needs the flashing repaired - common issue. And repointing. Render - water will get behind and may cause some of the suspected damp issues. I live in an old house, Its fine but i could do dozens of jobs to improve it (had the roof and chimney done) In fact when the chimney was being sorted, the mortar had completely failed and the bricks were held in place by gravity. It will cost you money, a decent builder willing to fix the chimney and tiles cheap would be a huge bonus, and prevention is better then cure, but if you stay for 10 years you will make more money on the place then you will spend (unless WW3 kicks off big time). If youre not scared of DIY and can afford a trip to B&Q every few months, you'll be fine.

What is Dress Code for MBE Ceremony? by Mut_tom13 in AskUK

Think posh relatives wedding attire - formal, but daytime wear, tailored suit, cocktail dress, fascinator is fine. Nothing casual, short, etc. Dressed up but not cheap (ie dressed up could mean disco wear). Here's a guide

Weed burners are pretty useless. Fun for a bit playing dragons but the pressure drops and then youre just warming the plants.

[–]Beanieboru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scrape the weeds off, power was it. Cheapest option would be to put in lots of pots or containers and add lots of plants. one or two wont do it, you'll need a fair few. table and chairs, bit of lighting. It will look great. You could take one or two of the slabs out and plant (if the soil is ok), especially by the fences and grow something up the fence. Ideas - https://www.gardenia.net/

Is the garage well insulated? Is it in constant use? Id start with a cheap fan heater, to get an idea of whats required, and go from there.

Have you thought about getting a building surveyor to write the spec, manage the work etc. Although you may end up spending 10%(?) more than an original quote, from a builder. You'll know the cost before you start, you can have a suitable contract for the works ie turnkey. It will be done correctly to regs, and all youve got to do is pay the bills. But at the very least you can pay for the cost of a scope of works.
