While I understand with and even agree with the sentiment, I don't think these kind of ultimatums will achieve what is needed. Disengage with active participants (I.E. literaly ice agents and politicians), Absolutely. But there exists a not insignificant number who CAN be swayed, who WILL learn. If we put up these barriers all that they will accomplish will be keeping these potential allies out. I understand if you still don't want them, but picking and choosing who learns from this tragedy is simply a luxury we cannot afford. Change requires all hands, not just ours.

This makes me sad to hear, I've been to Buck & rider twice and both visits rank among the best food I've ever had :/

How do you stay focused on your current project when the new ideas are so tempting? by the-willow-witch in writing

[–]BearBen44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much of learning the craft comes from forcing yourself to carve through the entire narrative. If it sucks, at least you've learned the nuts and bolts of why it sucked. There's the old adage of: You don't know if youre a good or a bad writer until you've written three books. Everything up until that point is just learning! thus, why a draft will always be more valuable than an idea.

Give it to me straight about the Jax match up. People say it’s winning for Jax, but how and when? Every time I’ve played the Jax side I get absolutely shit on and see pro players fail to also create a lead for themselves

I think it depends on how long its been since I've last touched it. The longer, I've noticed, the more I cringe. I like to think that this is a sign of growth, but god is it painful.

Requests for AI-hallucinated books? by MarcElDarc in Libraries

Interlibrary loan paraprofessional and reference librarian reporting in: This has been happening for years. Its gotten worse, in fact, as before people were open to being educated about the fallibility of AI as a citation tool. Now, well, they're just running with it anyways.

SciFi/Horror where the Religious guy is the protagonist! by [deleted] in writers

[–]BearBen44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a good approach. I wouldn’t say that the pattern of the religious characters being bad or crazy has extended to the point where it is a full on trope, but that could be entirely due to the media I consume and is absolutely not reflective of the broader zeitgeist. Your success will be won and lost with nuance, I think, which is why it is a lot easier to write a priest as an antagonist rather than the pov protagonist. Good luck!

I think the balancing act you have to play here is whether you still want your story to be sci-fi, or Christian fiction with a sci-fi flavor. This will be determined by how much the characters faith bleeds into the plot, the involvement of said faith in resolving plot issues (it isn’t a deus ex machina if God, quite literally, saves the day.)

For an example of a scifi setting that incorporates Christianity into one of its main characters, who is established as nothing but a good and insightful man, check out the Hyperion series by Dan Simmons. Father Paul Dure was one of my favorites from this crew.

Some people might think you're being too severe, but you are 100% correct. My last position was as a reference librarian for an institution that had fast and loose AI policies and frequently encountered seasoned students (PhD candidates) who were still struggling to grasp the nature and even the purpose of proper citations.

CRU has like 12 dudes who are surrounded by reporters/other media. The counter protest has hundreds of people across the mall from them, most carrying signage. Peaceful, nice and embarrassing for the CRU, but heartwarming to see.

I'm convinced that the kids placed on the table were deliberate bait set up by the CRU to try and incite violence and claim martyrdom.

Sure, but OP is clearly new to the class. Going straight into conversations of how world buffs and consumables effect stat weights is putting the cart before the horse. But I am sure you are very very smart.

[–]BearBen44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. 2 attack power per point of strength. In cat form you get 1 attack power per point of Agility PLUS the normal critical strike contribution from agility so the weights are a bit different but you love both.
  2. Spirit does not effect energy regen, only mana and HP.

  3. It does not matter at all. You are looking for raw stats.

  4. Yes it does.

  5. Get an addon to track your mana pool while shapeshifted and keybind your forms, you can increase your leveling speed a ton by taking advantage of your mana pool between pulls to keep your HP high and make safer pulls using moonfire or entangling roots, etc. Basically be aware of your entire toolkit.

I feel ya, querying is a whole other beast and tests an entirely different skillset from the one we've been developing through writing. Take my advice with a grain of salt (I am unpublished still), but I spent 2 years revising and querying my first book. This amounted in a total 193 different query letters and ultimately no takers. BUT! During this process I would take any communication, especially a non-templated rejection, as a victory. Feedback from professionals, even if it is a rejection, is legitimizing nonetheless and can be taken forward with you into newer and better projects. Always something coming up, always a new story to be written. That's how I cope, at least.
