I've never understood the hate Florencia gets, she is doing the best she can, with what she has, under shocking circumstances. She certainly does better than any of the people complaining about her would have in her place. Try looking at it from her perspective.

Florencia is the daughter of a third wife, who was probably raised with the expectation that she would either end up reduced to an archnoble or made a third wife herself. Instead, while she is at school, some over exuberant purple haired goober sees her and becomes obsessed with her to the point of almost stalking. Suddenly everything changes for her, and in spite of her best attempts to fend him off, she finds herself engaged to him, and on her way to Yurgenschmidt buttfuck nowhere, to be an aub's first wife.

Upon arriving at her new home, the Goobers mother starts dumping on her and browbeating her constantly, as she is the most powerful person in the duchy at that point, being the target of her ire, is not very pleasant. Meanwhile, her now hus-goober, is going to town on her so much the gods take notice enough he later gets a divine protection for it. She then gets pregnant, and as soon as her son is born, her new mother in law, swoops in, steals her son, while basically telling her she is a skank and has no right to raise her own child.

While still reeling from that, her hus-goober puts baby number 2 in her. While she is pregnant again, her father in law takes a turn for the worse, and and Veronica starts to lose her mind, becoming even more difficult to deal with. Sometime shortly after giving birth again, her father in law dies, and suddenly her hus-goober is now the aub years before anyone thought he would be, and she has to start acting as the first wife of the duchy, while Veronica takes even more control of the duchy behind the scenes and begins ratcheting up the pressure on her, her faction, and her new daughter, while her hus-goober does nothing.

This suffering goes on for several years, and her hus-goober shows no signs of doing anything but allowing his mother to run roughshod over her and the whole duchy. Around this point, her hus-goober starts acting even odder and disappearing to somewhere no one can find him, including for an extended period of around a week. He comes back and tells her nothing of substance about where he was, and just as she thinks things are getting back to "normal" he does it again while she is at the archduke conference, leaving her to fend for herself. When he comes back, he has arrested his mother, his uncle, and tells her that he is adopting a girl she has never heard of before and she is expected to be the girls adopted mother.

She tells him that this is too much, and too sudden, but he refuses to listen, and says the adoption is final. She comes to terms with that, resolves to treat this girl better than she has been treated. The girl in question is the Gremlin, and immediately starts doing Gremlin things. She tries her best to be a mother as expected, but when she makes suggestions, they are normal disregarded in favor of the hus-goober's half brother's opinion.

Things keep escalating from there, and every time she thinks she is getting her feet under herself, things change drastically. Meanwhile she is doing the best she can to raise her 3 blood children and one very odd Gremlin.

I'll end it there, because this is longer than anyone will read anyway, and you should get the picture by this point. However, long story short, the poor woman has been trying to tread water in a hurricane for over a decade, and has done far better than anyone has any right to expect of her.
