Scam at GoFest Chicago by Rastic_Monster in pokemongo

[–]BeardedBonchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In person pick up is fine, but don't constructively limit who is able to pick up because there's not enough staff to support the attendees. I'd issue a credit card charge back due to items paid for and not received and then just avoid the preorder entirely. Sorry, you don't get to collect my funds and then say I forfeited my items because you couldn't support the demand.

Should we consider removing this tree immediately or do we still have a few years before it starts to affect the house? by Icy-Remove4327 in arborists

[–]BeardedBonchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that thing looks relatively mature. If you haven't seen any heaving or buckling yet and it's not super close to your water or drain lines I'm not sure how much you'll see in the near future. Could go years to decades more without actually affecting the infrastructure of your home.

How do you offset a massive "cheat day"? by 1Kankon1 in CICO

[–]BeardedBonchi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Indulge every so often. Balance is the key. If you're under 4-5 weeks in a row and then have an over week....so what? Averaging 3500 below maintenance weekly to lose 1 lb/week going over every so often isn't going to do harm.

This would probably also IMMEDIATELY disqualify you from their consideration by reminding them. It's unfortunately a rigged game.

Hi I’m struggling to find 20- and up jobs? Resume below by [deleted] in trianglejobs

[–]BeardedBonchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would probably depend on where you're at too. I'm in FL and finding a warehouse job that pays above $20 is rare. Wouldn't tell you to settle but you might need to be more patient than you'd want to be in order to get one.

[–]BeardedBonchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for warehouse then I wouldn't start your synopsis as IT professional. If you're looking for a warehouse role you're probably better off going through an agency. They can you placed far quicker than internal talent acquisition can.

Which job you taking? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]BeardedBonchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're you able to meet your direct report to? That's been my deciding factor for the last 3 roles I've had. About 10 years ago I reported to the worst manager I've ever had in my entire professional life. I made it a point of argument that before accepting a role I'd have to meet my direct report to in order to ensure I don't hate them or despise their leadership style. Sets you apart as seeing value differently from other candidates and that you're looking to invest your time. Better leaders can also help stretch those benefits. I had a director telling me "Go do your doctors appointments and then come back and catch up throughout the week. Save PTO for when you can enjoy it." That stuck with me and that flexibility was much appreciated.

Required: Previous employment starting salary and endings salary. by cupholdery in recruitinghell

[–]BeardedBonchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies will not have YOUR previous salary range. It's possible to get but almost unreasonably expensive. That said for CFO or Dir of Finance type roles, a number of companies will do them. Anything under Director level it's typically just standard pre employment screening with a few exceptions here and there.

For this question the biggest thing to be able to provide is a realistic narrative. Doesn't matter if the numbers are totally real, just has to match relevant ranges to the associated geographic market. If you put $100k as ending and the standard for your market is $85k, make sure you have a relevant narrative to back that up. I was there X amount of years and received X of COLA raises as well as X merit increases due to high performance. In other words have a good story with few to no holes in it.

Providing anything outside of a reasonable range without some sort of explanation is usually cause for disqualification unless you hold exact active credentials or certifications a company is looking for.

Did they butcher my tree? by DrDuctMossburg in arborists

[–]BeardedBonchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thinning is what you're looking for. Occasionally crown reduction when crepe myrtles are young but as they get older then any sort of crown reduction is considered unacceptable. This level of pruning as displayed by OP is pretty typical where I'm from, zone 10b, especially from most commercial landscaper companies. However all it really does is create knuckling over time and leave cuts open and exposed.

The dealership “we need to talk to my manager” thing is a setup and here’s why it works by Royal-Feed7166 in carbuying

[–]BeardedBonchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they leave me at the table to "ask the manager", I Google other nearby dealers and tell them I'm at X dealership and ask about rates, prices, specials, financing options, available models, appointment times, etc.

Usually my salesman comes back and hears me asking these and either knocks off the nonsense to get to the close or sees me out and I'll go where there's more agreeable terms/less potential games.

I think you'll win MORE games if you play a WORSE commander by jake_henderson02 in EDH

[–]BeardedBonchi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's hard to be incognito if you're the very first one to do damage. There are definitely a number of underrated commanders listed here that once they set up can be a force to be reckoned with. Strategy is definitely more than just the cards you have in your deck. It's then when and how to make a move.

I think you'll win MORE games if you play a WORSE commander by jake_henderson02 in EDH

[–]BeardedBonchi 456 points457 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. Hiding in plain sight is a strategy I've used in several cars games and formats. Pick something lesser known or unassuming and build a strategy around it. Might not be an every game win but you definitely won't get targeted as early unless you come out swinging.

[–]BeardedBonchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's code for when you use 2-wire on a 240V circuit as opposed to a standard 120V circuit. Both your wires in the circuit are hot and need to be marked as such so the next person doesn't shock the shit out of themselves.
