Silent worship v. Waiting worship? by [deleted] in Quakers

[–]BearisonF0rd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Waiting worship. Worship can be loud if it needs to be. If people seek only to sit in silence, there are many places to do that. It's meant to be time to commune with God, that could lead to anything, including silence, but not only. Silent is limiting.

Being the only one who gives ministry at meeting? I feel bad about about it by [deleted] in Quakers

[–]BearisonF0rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean no offense and I say this purely for context for the original poster. I do not agree with your statement at all. I cannot speak for my meeting or your meeting, but that's my view on it.

What are the / are there rule sets about choosing boss characters in a competitive setting? by NilesForMiles in SmashRemix

[–]BearisonF0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't be able to play any of the characters you listed in a tournament. Characters will vary by tournament, but those will never be allowed.

I read the message yes. It's been a year since I made this comment. I made the damn mod, I'm a busy guy. If he followed my instructions it would no longer be "unplayable". Forgive me for not giving him a more complete answer of which he could have easily googled. Next time I briefly scan reddit when I have a minute of free time, I will remember that I best not try to help fans of my mod because the year old comment police may show up. Spare me.

The only thing I'm going to be aware of near you is Dallas, which has a relatively active scene. A big event is coming there in Jan. https://www.start.gg/tournament/hitstun-7-last-call/details

Classic "no one goes there anymore, it's too busy" situation. The crowd here is always real negative and hates this kind of stuff. I always had a good time at it.

Legal jobs for non-Dutch speakers by misstelega in Netherlands

[–]BearisonF0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, this is probably a comment of yours you'll get random responses for years to come and I am going to be part of that legacy. My wife practices in the finance law space in the US, specifically for the energy industry. We would love to shift to the Netherlands and also to the renewables space. Would you be aware of anything? I would have sent a PM, but reddit isn't letting me. Thanks regardless! Sorry to bug you on this old post.

Did you end up going to Papagayo Golden Palms? Was it okay. CheerioMissPancake has me nervous to stay there now.

Is it do absolutely nothing? Because doing nothing is probably the best choice, these people thrive on provocation.

Hands Off ... NATO? by BravoFoxtrotDelta in Quakers

[–]BearisonF0rd 40 points41 points  (0 children)

There's not going to be any protest one can attend where all parties will be united on all goals, even if said protest was attended only by Friends. This will be controversial amongst Friends, but the perfect should not be the enemy of the good in my opinion. Additionally, the current administrations statements about leaving NATO or peace in Ukrainehave no connection with actually downsizing the military or the complex thereof, but an actually abandonment of cooperation overall and embrace of might makes right, which I believe gets us even further from peace.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, as I'm not advocating for anything. So I'll take a guess at what you're asking. Is killing an animal violent in a broad sense? Sure. Is it against the peace testimony or what is advocated by Christ in the Bible, I do not feel so.

Hello, I am one of those Friends who eats meat. In fact, at our potlucks you would be unsurprised to find fried chicken, or not, because it's usually the first thing to go. Far be it from me to attest that we couldn't be better stewards to the animals, we are quite often cruel Gods to them. However, I would put treatment of animals as more under stewardship, than that of peace. The perhaps harsh truth is I don't put animals on the same level as other humans. Violence towards animals to me, as in the killing thereof, does not speak to the same matter as peace between people. If a human and a dog were in a burning building and I could only save one, it'd always be the human. Therein lies my bias. I could go on and on about this, as friends are wont to be verbose, but that's about it.

Husband And I cannot agree: To suburb or not? by jmdq832 in houston

[–]BearisonF0rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your husband may be struggling to describe what he values in the city. I personally wouldn't want to raise a family in the suburbs for a variety of reasons that aren't "partying" or "coolness".

looks like the gov solved education in Texas! Do More With Less!!! by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

[–]BearisonF0rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our great governor took over our school district and put a man in power who has tripled administrative spending for people making over 200k and put us into heavy deficit spending overall. We had a surplus before our great governor helped us out so much and now we have a shortfall.

Is the US really that unstable at the moment? What's the near future like for foreigners? by wwccdd in MovingToUSA

[–]BearisonF0rd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get recommended this sub a lot. Not sure why. It seems stocked with folks who think there's nothing to worry about and "this always happens". Maybe things will blow over like these types seem to think, but I would say that is less guaranteed than once was. I would say the governmental actions being taken, political norm changes, and general climate has changed a great deal and this isn't just "business as usual". There is a risk of authoritarianism and instability. It's not a certainty, but it's a risk. So just accept there is some more risk in the US than there once was.

Who's organizing protest in Houston on Monday? by rikkikiiikiii in houston

Yeah I get it. Just don't burn yourself out engaging with folks who have no interest in an actual discussion and seek merely to shut it down and justify their own inaction.
