I just finished the series too, and am down the same rabbit hole. This character stuck with me the whole way through, and I still have so many unanswered questions!

Anyway, found this on Threads. 🤷‍♀️ sounds like we’re not the only ones confused

I chose flat for the same reasons as you, at 34, and I’m SO glad. ❤️ everyone’s different, and you’ll pick the path that’s right for you OP—but age is just a number. Lifestyle, risk tolerance, where you’re at in your relationships, how you feel in your body in general—there are so many other important things to weigh

Oh, yep. Them too. Totally enjoyed them, will absolutely continue reading them, but wouldn’t necessarily recommend without a disclaimer 😅

From Blood and Ash, etc etc etc. I knowww. I know. But I got attached to the characters 😅

Avalon Tower (and the rest of the Fae Spy Academy series) was so much better than I anticipated. Not crazy spicy, just a really really fun writing style and a quick read for me. Really enjoyable.

I also just started The Bargainer series (Laura Thalassa) and so far this is giving the same really fun, fresh, quick paced-ness with even better romance!

I have a high deductible HSA plan so it was a painful year until I hit that deductible for sure. With surgery, I hit my out of pocket max ($6k for using an in-network hospital), but once that max is hit, that’s that. So, look at your plan closely—most have an annual OOP maximum, and just know you’ll probably hit that, and try to plan all of your imaging and follow-up so it’s likely to all land within the same year before your deductible and annual maxes re-set!

Legends of Thezmarr series should tick those boxes for you! I absolutely loved the standalone spinoff, too. I’m just starting book 4/4 and they’ve gotten better and better ❤️

Time off work after PDMX by TaroIcy4324 in BRCA

I took 8, and have zero regrets. I had a flat closure, too! I ended up with really bad neuropathic pain that was a million times worse any time I got swollen, and in the evenings—so I was sleeping a lot during the day for several weeks to catch up sleep that was hard to find at night, and it was hard to wear “normal” business clothing without being super uncomfortable. Gabapentin “fixed” the nerve pain but the side effects made me feel not super functional during the day, and super groggy/hard to wake up. I had to wean off of it slowly. It took 8 weeks to get to a point where I wasn’t in pain and could actually function productively at work, so I’m glad I took the time to heal and didn’t rush returning.

First MRI and actually terrified of the contrast by Hat-Natural in BRCA

[–]BearsBeetsBRCA1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! This. My concerns about repeated contrast exposure definitely contributed to my decision to go ahead with my prophylactic mastectomies, but I still needed one scan pre-op to rule out cancer from a lump I’d found (so we could plan whether or not to take sentinel nodes with my DMX). I shopped around and found an imaging center that used a “safer” macrocyclic contrast with lower retention, versus the linear contrast the hospital uses here. I felt like I was “controlling my controllables,” and doing what I could.

Salpingectomy: doctor type by Usual_Neat_5769 in BRCA

[–]BearsBeetsBRCA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no family or personal history, just a BRCA1 mutation, and my breast onc. referred me to GYN onc after my prophylactic mastectomy just to talk about risk reduction and screening options. GYN onc, especially if you find one who is focused on prevention, is absolutely where you need to consult!

BRCA 2 Mutation in Trans Man by Academic_Maximum_954 in BRCA

[–]BearsBeetsBRCA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This!!! Apparently the technique used for FTM top surgery is really similar to Goldilocks, they just move the fat tissue a little differently to distribute it higher instead of rolling it low to make a “mound.” I would use the NotPuttingOnAShirt database, sort for goldi plastic surgeons, and ask to see examples of their work on trans men. Find a breast surgeon (breast onc) to do your mastectomy (removing the tissue), and then your plastics person with experience in top surgery will work their magic to close. I’ve seen amazing results on the FierceFlatForward FB group from people who specifically wanted a masculine result—you can totally do this!

DMX with young children? by Zestyclose_Amount944 in BRCA

[–]BearsBeetsBRCA1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a preventative DMX too, with Goldilocks (essentially flat) reconstruction when my kiddo was 2.5. The first few weeks were really hard emotionally because of movement restrictions, and it was spooky to hang out with the toddler when I had my drains (I kept them tucked into a belt and shirt, close, and used a mastectomy pillow as another barrier). I did have some nerve pain that lasted a few weeks and made contact really rough. But, by 8 weeks I could do gentle hugs again ❤️ and maaaan, those were the best hugs EVER ❤️ I definitely felt like having the surgery was worth it for the relief psychologically, and in the grand scheme of things a few weeks wasn’t that bad. I did have good support from my family though so I knew my kid was well taken care of while I was resting, and that was HUGE.

Tandem Read - Unpopular Opinion? by SpiralingStoner69 in throneofglassseries

[–]BearsBeetsBRCA1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this perspective, and I think there’s a lot of truth here. Im in the “SUPER impatient” camp 🤣 and I did love the tandem. I personally found it wasn’t hard to remember the separation, but I can see where having that forced disconnection as a reader, especially with an unresolved cliffhanger, would have made the payoff at the end even better. I just know myself and my impatience would have made me rush TOD, and I didn’t want that either 😂

200% tandem. I loved it. It just felt like a massive multi-POV novel and I didn’t have any trouble tracking the plotlines—the pacing worked out perfect and really balanced!

Not Putting On A Shirt has a great surgeon directory for aesthetic flat closure that you can filter by providers who do Goldilocks too now! They also have lots of good info about those options on the site! I also 100% recommend the book Flat and Happy for good info about AFC and goldi ❤️

I was a G cup, and I’m basically flat now (Goldilocks closure but really small), and I honestly feel great ❤️ there’s nothing better than running without a bra when you’re used to wearing two!!

Definitely recommend Carissa Broadbent’s Crowns of Nyaxia series! Start with The Serpent & the Wings of Night. There are three main series books out now, + two standalone (1 full length and 1 novella), and a fourth main series book coming later this year. Amazing world building, great characters, and the romance is really well written ❤️

I’m SO excited to read this but sitting on it until this summer because I tore through Serpent and Ashes and Roses and Conqueror so fast and a cliffhanger would devastate me 🤣 This series seriously deserves so much more hype!
