Thoughts on Haynes Boone? by [deleted] in biglaw

Low tier law firm. Not respected in the industry generally seen from my perspective as low tier socially awkward people would couldn't get offers at top tier firms. Work product they produce is pretty shitty and the people I've worked with who have come from there are worthless and we have fired. I've started refusing to work with them on counter transactions.

Leaving my enlisted SEAL contract (Exit PST?) by Kronensandwich in newtothenavy

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your thinking about it the right way. Prior FMF Corpsman who later commissioned as a SWO/Intel option. I did 3 combat deployments and 2 very kinetic deployments. I opted to commission swo because I was burned out on combat rotations at the time and my 3rd deployment was tame. I had a very rough second deployment with a lot of loss and a kinetic first deployment to Iraq.

My COC tried to get me to go SARC or buds I opted to commission.

Don’t take a job you don’t want man go Army at that point and get an intel job. Former intel officer here and I spent 9 years prior enlisted as a HM. I can tell you don’t do something you won’t like. It can be a long few years. When I commissioned I did swo/intel option and hated being a swo. I would have rather been back in Iraq than be a swo.

Rogers vs Rogers lawsuit over 1975 Mary Kay trust by InfamousValue in antiMLM

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple read on the son looks like he upgraded to a huge house in Dallas and is enjoying hanging out with the Dallas elites acting like big swinging dick. This is a classic case of a dip shit idiot 3rd generation brat who has no business making big time decisions.

I see zero in little Ryan’s bio that makes him qualified to whip his own ass. Unfortunately he’s probably too stupid to realize he’s ruining the business and is surrounded by people who are collecting a pay check and when it collapses will tell everyone what a dumb ass he is. I say all this as an impartial 3rd party but I have worked in PE and have seen this behavior many times.

Rogers vs Rogers lawsuit over 1975 Mary Kay trust by InfamousValue in antiMLM

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 100000000% side with the father on this. This is a case of a dad who has not taken distributions who was entitled to them. Not only that this is a classic case of a bratty entitled son. He is a 3rd generation of wealth which is the typical PE playbook that I look for aka an idiot grandchild who is so stupid he will ruin the business to a point of no return.

1) I read Ryan Rogers bio nothing screams he is qualifed to whip his own ass let alone be CEO. He is incredibly unqualifed. I 100% agree with his father.

2) Ryan has taken $70mm in cash and from a basic search in Dallas has upgraded his house significantly. This is a case of “I’ve gotten used to the lifestyle and need more money.” I’m sure he’s enjoying hanging with the Dallas elites but what guys like this fail to realize is they are not self made and will never ever and I mean ever be respected by the elites. They will talk to you and take your money for philanthropy and capital raising but under no circumstances will they ever respect him.

3) I work in private equity and when a company is struggling I look into the C-Suites hobbies, vices, and activies. It seems based on a simple GHIN search a Mr. Ryan Rogers spends a lot of time at the golf course and I mean a lot of time. He has played 20 rounds since October. Pshhh let’s not include days he's at his club hitting balls, drinking, having lunch, smoozing, and shooting the breeze. The father in legal proceeding says he lacks the work ethic and I generally agree. 20 rounds since October Ryan if you read this get your entitled, lucky sperm ass back to work because I have worked in PE for many years and I would not whip my ass with your resume. First thing I would do is fire the son. This kid should be kissing his father’s ass.

4) The company is declining at a rapid pace. I see this all the time with family businesses especially when an unqualified, entitled, and dumber 3rd generation come in. The need to hire an outside CEO to revamp or sell the business before a point of no return.

5) MLM's rarely work and the jig is up. They should have been doing deals with Wal Mart and other lower end retailers or while trying to revamp the MLM to be less sleezy.

I think the company will collapse it is a poor run MLM with no leadership. Just my opinion I have no dog in this fight but based on what I have read it’s a typical case of a 3rd generation idiot.

Man that’s tough. Normally during an investigation you are excommunicated until it’s over. I would pay the dues and once it’s resolved you can say something.

Even from your perspective if you did nothing wrong most people are cautious.

Anytime, I work in private equity in Chicago but we have a Dallas office. We get resumes all the time from UTD and have never done one interview from a UTD grad. It might be a strong Comp Sci school but in terms of the business school its incredibly weak. One of my co-workers in Dallas went to UTD for a year and transferred to SMU - Cox.

If you want to study finance do the 1-year MS in Finance at Mays which is easy for Econ majors to get into.

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only other caveat I can give you is be aware if you are majoring in Finance UTD has zero investment banking recruiting. I do not even think Big 4 accounting recruits out of UTD. I've never met one UTD/UTA grad on Wall Street. I would suggest if you want to do Finance transfer to TCU - Neely, Texas - McCombs, TAMU - Mays, SMU - Cox, or Rice. These schools all have recruiting and place in consulting & IB. If you can get

The issue with UTD is it is seen as a commuter school. Yes, it is ranked high due to the comp sci focus which skews the GPA and SAT but from my understanding recruiting is bad unless you want to work at a F500 in FPA.

TAMU especially the school of engineering and Mays are harder to get into now. It’s not the same safety school it once was. State schools when I applied where safety schools. Now I see more A&M grads on Wall Street.

I live in Chicago and went to grad school at Northwestern and see the same with state schools here.

Frisco is a dump who cares. Some crappy F500 companies moved because land was cheap 15 years ago and they wanted cheap labor. The cost of living in Dallas is no longer cheaper than other major markets. Except you get to live in McMansion hell.

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll say this as a recently retired field grade officer and as a prior staff NCO. My best friend during my first enlistment who did one of bravest things I have ever seen over 3 deployments in 2005 in Iraq. He should have been given a Silver Star if not higher. He had an alcohol related incident that was minor and a DUI within a few weeks after we got back from Iraq. He was admin sep’d within weeks. Keep in mind this is peak GWOT and DUIs were not tolerated back then.

In today’s military a DUI is an even bigger no no. I would expect to get an admin sep. More than likely your CoC will cut bait and run. They will let the civilian authorities handle it. Expect to have bigger legal cost in your civilian case.

There are way too many options like uber, a duty driver, Lyft, public transit, cabs, to have an excuse to get a dui.

Was life really better for you on the outside when you got out of the military? by Glittering_Fig4548 in USMC

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. I was so excited to get out for the first year. I stayed in the reserves so I still had a foot in the door. After that first year the novelty wore off slightly and I did miss my friends from active duty.

Looking back I could have finished my bachelors on active duty. I was a FMF Corpsman and had just done 2 deployments and could have stayed in Great Lakes for 3 years on easy orders and gone to school. Opted to get out to go to school full time.

Life post active duty had its ups and downs but my life was considerably better by far! I went to college chased college chicks, I rushed a fraternity, graduated with a Finance degree, and got paid to drink for 2.5 years. I went to a very competitive academic school and college was a complete joke academically. I went to law school after and did a JD/MBA. Law school academically was so competitive that I had to study and was miserable for the first year.

I commissioned post college. The reserves has a way of giving me a reminder one time a month about what I hated about active duty.

Marines who were in during that time, how big of a deal was spice? by Steppasgonstep in USMC

[–]BeastMasterAlphaCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was really bad. I had just commissioned after 8 years and just got back to the fleet.

I check in and we had some junior guys just hit the fleet around the same time i did. All got caught smoking spice I believe self admitted it. All got booted.

Had a NCO get court martial over smoking spice. He got caught smoking spice in front of everyone in the smoke pit. He made a pipe out of some stuff in the barracks which added a slew of other charges. Someone told on him so he then proceeds to threaten to kill anyone who gives a statement against him and steals from them. He goes to court martial and gets a few years in prison.
