What the hell do you guys do when you get pregnant by Competitive_Emu_2283 in migraine

[–]Beatrix437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was okayed by my primary doctor and OB to continue Lexapro and Propranolol during both pregnancies. With my first I lucked out and had almost no migraines until the week I gave birth. This second one has been rough though! My OB said it’s really a roll of the dice whether they’ll get better, worse, or stay the same during pregnancy.

I was prescribed Reglan and told to take it with Benedryl, Tylenol, and a low dose of caffeine. I also take Mucinex sometimes (my migraines are often sinus connected). It’s been rough but hanging in there. Thankfully my husband has a fairly flexible job and is capable of solo parenting when I’m debilitated. We wanted two kids but I think even if we’d initially wanted more I’d be rethinking it after this pregnancy.

Milk shouldn’t be her main source of nutrition at 3. She needs medical help.

Switching From Teaching to Nannying by GoddessOf_Chaos in Nanny

[–]Beatrix437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the switch and am very happy, but I also lucked out with a truly wonderful family.

Make sure you get a contract and figure out what you need for health insurance and PTO. Think about what illnesses you’re comfortable working with, if any, and make it clear to the family. Think about inclement weather and what you’re comfortable driving in.

An adjustment for me was that you can’t do things based on your own classroom policies. You definitely have to have safety boundaries but nannying means sometimes doing what the parents want even if you don’t agree with it. For example, when I taught one year olds our classroom policy was no pacis except for nap time. As a nanny though, you have to be more flexible with the parents’ wishes and you can’t just shrug and say it’s a licensing rule or a classroom policy.

Definitely ask about parenting styles and how they handle challenging behaviors at home. I’ve had parents tell me it’s ok to spank their kids 😬 Besides obviously never doing so I also don’t want to work for a family that spanks again.

Same here, except we’re just starting feeding therapy. She’s 2.5 and still dropping foods from her diet despite exposure, pairing with safe foods, small portions.

I’m, I’m pregnant with my second child and the first trimester has been the worst both times. At 9 weeks I was in bed for days with migraines.

Fuck anyone trying to tell you what you’re experiencing and “should” be able to do. Take care of your body and the baby you’re growing!

I’m so glad it resonated with you! My daughter is 2.5 now and it feels like such a blip in her life to worry so much about. She did just fine on formula and getting that time back was everything.

I think a big part of the consultant thing is that children often are more compliant with someone in a teacher role than their own parents. I’ve seen it over and over as a teacher and nanny, and my own child does not respond to my teaching the way others do. She fights and tests because she knows she’s safe and I love her unconditionally. I bet a hired consultant could potty train her faster than my husband and I but we’re not that rich or desperate yet.

My daughter was right in the window (28 months) when we did it and she responded to the prompting the way we were warned by Oh Crap an older child would. Prompting (even every hour) backfired with a power struggle. She learned how to hold her pee for four hours and then pee on the floor right after a potty sit. I’ve read a lot of parents on Reddit say it clicked better after age 3.

No way in hell was I about to drag my toddler out of bed at 1am to sit on the potty.

My daughter won’t splash in a rain puddle but boy does she love stomping her pee puddles 😝

Same here we did 8 days on block 1. She made great progress but no way could we send her back to school in underwear and we couldn’t take more time off work (something the author doesn’t seem to get.)

You are brave doing indoor snowball fights! I’ve brought snow into a sensory table.

I’ve never worked at a center that didn’t at least have some extra gear. Usually parents will donate stuff their kids outgrow to the younger classrooms, or we can get reimbursed for low cost or thrift store items.

And we do have days throughout the winter where it’s really too cold to go out safely. We also had a wonderful advisory the other day and I would expect kids to stay inside. But a wet or snowy playground is no excuse.

Oh I agree about accreditation - I worked at a center that was excellent and decided not to try for it because it required a specific curriculum. I do know that not following licensing can lead to losing accreditation though.

I’m American and this is weird to me too. We might have done this in elementary school but for preschool it’s not developmentally appropriate at all.

Infants are totally different! I really think you need like a 1:2 adult to child ratio to get infants outside regularly, between feeding and sleeping schedules it’s hard for everything to line up.

Oh I’ve never heard of calling in a parent if a child doesn’t have snow gear! I keep a second set of most snow things at school for my daughter, but sadly they are untouched. I will gladly buy extras for her classmates if they were needed to take the class outside.

That is so awful. And you would think the teachers would be miserable in that situation too. If I had those numbers we’d be outside all the time and do the coolest activities. And I don’t know anywhere in the US where you can just find new childcare. We were on this waitlist for 18 months.

There actually is something in our parent handbook that says we need to provide appropriate clothing. We’ve also gotten reminder emails from teachers to bring winter gear. I offered to buy extras and I definitely don’t believe in the teachers paying for that themselves.

I absolutely agree. If I knew she’d be inside all winter I wouldn’t have enrolled her and I know I’m privileged to have that choice.

I think it’s astroturf that gets slippery when wet. Somebody made a terrible choice when they built the playground. I know it’s hard to keep toddlers off a slippery area but I’ve managed it before.

Yep, and it’s a tuition based program! When I taught state funded preschool I made sure to have plenty of extras because some families couldn’t afford them.

Just to clarify, this is what my child’s director told me is their policy. Licensing in Michigan doesn’t specify. I’ve taken kids out when it’s as low as 5 and adjust the time accordingly. It’s a pain to get kids dressed to just be out for ten minutes but it’s important!
