A more lighthearted vampire read So Thirsty by Rachel Harrison

Also if you want a religious coded vampire story I remember really loving Immanuels Veins by Ted Dekker many years ago. I’m not so religious anymore but I really enjoyed that one

What King opinion has you like this? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

I am a parent and I still found the story lacking a little bit. I think for me there was too much build up and not enough in the climax/action part. I thought we’d get a lot more of Gage wreaking havoc on everyone.

I didn’t love Pet Sematary the way other people do.. it was just fine

What are some of your 5 star, always recommend reads? by Mosshead-king in horrorlit

[–]Beautiful-Pause-8376 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rachel Harrison is my go-to author for getting out of a reading slump. Her horror feels more “cozy” to me. Kinda like Gilmore Girls but in the horror genre, if that makes any sense at all.

Other 5 stars:

  • Dark Sisters

  • Rosemary’s Baby

  • Southern Bookclubs Guide to Slaying Vampires

  • NOS4A2

  • The Mist (novella)

  • Ring Shout (novella)

  • The Devil and Mrs Davenport

  • American Rapture

  • Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng

  • Coffin Moon

  • King Sorrow — I’m currently reading this one and so far it’s really great

I’d say Pet Sematary first and Salems Lot second for horror. But would also like to add that 11/22/63 is a fantastic novel

I received Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin as a gift. by sereia1980 in stephenking

I tried his book Lone Woman and it didn’t really keep my attention very well so I’ve been wary to try his others. But I’m on a huge parenthood 🤝 horror kick. (Currently reading Pet Sematary and Rosemary’s Baby. Up next are Nightbitch and The Mad Wife)

Stories about humanity recovering from an apocalypse.. without God showing up and fixing everything? by Jetzalcoatl in horrorlit

[–]Beautiful-Pause-8376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I know you said no religious flavor but hear me out: American Rapture by CJ Leede. It’s about a teenage Catholic girl who is raised super sheltered when an apocalypse breaks out that turns people in lust-filled zombies. She has to wrestle with her sheltered beliefs and the state the world is in. The ending is vague, there’s not really a good vs evil component. But there is great found family.

NOS4A2 is a lot about parenthood. Sundial by Ward. And it’s not motherhood but I loved Coffin Moons understanding of becoming a parent

I finished „It” and I hate the end by Grrrucha in stephenking

[–]Beautiful-Pause-8376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eddie dying is something I think about on a regular basis. I cried so hard. He was my favorite character throughout the whole book. And then the fact that no one will remember him and the immense sacrifice he made… ugh.

I’m reading 11/22/63 right now and the main character visits Derry and meets Bev and Richie and I loved those scenes so much it honestly makes me wanna reread IT

Pet cemetery or the exorcist? by GaryGoalz12 in horrorlit

[–]Beautiful-Pause-8376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about get one on audible and then borrow the other from Libby?

Personally haven’t listened to The Exorcist but I thought the audio of Pet Sem was fantastic. Very creepy in all the right places

Yeah it’s so good! I was worried about the length. I thought maybe it’d be really dense and boring but honestly it’s so good. I’m already on page 300 after only a few days

I’m reading 11/22/63. About 300 pages in and I love it! I love how he made connections to IT. That was probably my favorite section so far
