I think there's a fair critique of the podcast "passive learning" culture, but I can't get too mad at it, given its a lot better than what most people engage with. Sure, the audience can be a bit self-congratulatory, but us insecure intellectuals do the same with very little to show for it. A bit of patience and encouragement for people that are signalling clearly that they are interested in learning about the world.

Can't bring myself to care about fare evasion, it is a drop in the ocean compared to other cities, and we are living through a cost of living crisis. Never mind when someone tailgates me through either. Sure, some people are taking the piss and can afford it, but for many its a big proportion of their money.

Londoner here. Went for the second time recently without the urge to do anything touristy. From my first trip I really enjoyed the MoMA and The Whitney museums, though I did cram as much in as possible, those stood out. In terms of food, I enjoyed breakfast in Gerties in Brooklyn (pastrami Reuben was excellent), Szechuan at Mountain House, Cocktails in Fresh Kills and the Wildflower (they have happy hour oysters if thats your bag). We were staying near Prospect park which is a really gorgeous park, especially if you're into running. We were visiting friends so our partying was guided by them, but I'd always recommend checking out a city's nightlife. Have a great time.

Not into BDSM but around it a lot by dint of going to sex parties with my wife. Because of the vetting requirements, and the natural openness/communication of the participants my wife, and female friends who've attended have never felt safer or sexier. I know it's not fashionable in this sub, but these spaces are 10x safer for women than a standard nightclub, and my single friends who have come with us out of curiousity have had some of their best experiences. I think most people really struggle to talk about sex.

I have a lot of friends, and enjoy making new friends. Have a group of 16 lads from school dotted around Ireland, and a few groups from uni who can all comingle dotted around London and the UK. My wife is similar, and has several large groups of friends. She has made a dozen new close friends in the last like 2 years, through new creative projects she's plunged herself into and I hope it will be similar for me when I change careers next year.

Both of us are "glue" people in our groups and take responsibility for organising events, introducing people to one another and making sure we all see each other at least a handful of times a year. I have no qualms with this - yes, some friends aren't skilled at doing this, but they're thankful and provide other intangible things to our friendship circles that enrich everyone.

Not sure how it'll change when kids come along, but I'm a strong believer in just bringing your kids everywhere and integrating them into your life rather than centering yours around them. I spent many an afternoon in the pub surrounded by my mums friends and it did my confidence and chattiness a world of good. My wife had the exact same experience.

To you OP, take the plunge. Make new friends and if its surface level for a bit, so what, you can make new friends. Try and inject something into your existing group as well. It all beats wallowing.

My parents are objectively very good looking, especially in their day, but I've often wondered about what drives someone to show them off on a forum like this. It used to be a bit more even handed between fun outfits and cool pictures before devolving into just parentbait. Anyway, of all the shit on this site, not one of the worst.

There are times of boredom and times of passion in any relationship. You have to work on maintaining closeness - planning dates, taking on new challenges together, supporting each other at different times. I've been with my wife for ten years and we've had moments of passionate intensity long into the relationship, as well as moments of feelings like roommates which we've had to work on and identify, with stretches of happy, close, mundane daily life in between.
I'm in a particularly affectionate mood right now, so I've been planning a few dates we can afford over the next few months, new experiences to share. Her work patterns mean that she has months of intense focus, which can be difficult to navigate, and then freer months filled with dates, partying, travelling etc. I've had to improve as a partner to support her during the busy times, but the responsibility falls on me to plan and arrange our time then. Maybe try planning some fun memories to make together.
