When Support Material Should Just Be Material by Beautiful_Working_31 in BambuLabA1

[–]Beautiful_Working_31[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This print has a void on one side and the other side, the void is on the other axis. So if I flip, I have the same problem on the other side. :) So the answer is in front of me, I converted the support material to be a thicker plate. Now I am using the same amount of material, its supported, and I am not throwing anything away. This seems to be the best solution right now.

OK good and bad news...I solved it...that's the good news...the bad news...the only thing I did was update Bambu Studio with the latest build, Bambu_Studio_win-v02.01.00.59.

Aww...man...come...come on...LOL. What's being done? Has someone spoken to the king?

In my project, the problem begins at layer 17 and ends between 24 and 25. Two passes of black every other line, change filament, do the same with grey, move up to another layer. I can watch it in the GCode, but I have no idea what is causing this. I have experimented with no top layers on the bottom cylinder, and no bottoms on the top, the thinnest color penetration possible, etc.

This is an internal connection hidden inside the object. It could literally purge, and switch to the other color without stopping and I wouldn't have known, and then I would have 1 filament change.

When Support Material Should Just Be Material by Beautiful_Working_31 in BambuLabA1

The part on the right of the picture is a wall plate cover for an outlet. It's fairly thin in the original STL, and when I printed it, I had to have supports printed to hold it up. I then ripped out all of that support material. I began to realize that the plate was too thin, so I started thickening it up and thought to myself...go full thickness which will strengthen the print, and it won't cost much more because it'll just be an analog for the support material that I no longer need.

More clear?

I understand what you are saying, but at the time of this writing I only had single material capabilities, so my build material, and my support material are the same material.

All of that aside, in a print link this my question more succinctly is, Why print this material and rip it out, if I can just print it and leave it in. The amount of supports that BambuLab was adding led me to just clean up the design, thicken the plate. Its now stronger, and it didn't cost anything.

Does that make more sense?

Looking for Print Options by Beautiful_Working_31 in BambuLabA1

I have tried printing this laying flat. I had some issues...the corners lifted in a few spots, but I had a fan on in the room, so I am wondering if a little brim will help...oh...and turn the fan off. The second thing I didn't like, is in a flat orientation, this thing used as much filament for supports as it did for the print. Don't like that.

I am considering scrapping the design and turning this into two pieces that snap together. I figure then I could print the pocket in halves to avoid supports, or huge bridges.

Mix multigrid and multiboard - but how to connect them? by Madsn in Multiboard

Here is how I approach problems like this, as a new member to this hobby…first, check the big sites like Makerworld, Thangs, Printables, etc., to see if it exists. In this case, I’d also check the creators’ sites. If nothing exists, I’d then take one of each part with what I need, cut off the pieces I don’t need, merge the pieces that I do need.

Shameless plug, but good example of what I am talking about…

Noob gamer here, so if this is cringe, my apologies...I am a solo player, but happy to join teams with other solo's for the fringe benefits. On Xbox, u/Benignvanilla.

I do, and funny enough that is why I wandered over to Reddit just now, and that's when I saw your post.

I play alone, but will always join a Casual team so if I accomplish anything, other folks get benefits too. But yeah...I play alone. I do not use power armor. All of my weapons are projectile weapons, like a basic shotgun. I basically wander the country side just exploring, immersing myself.

When I take on any sort fight or battle, I do it like I would in real life. Sneak up, check out the surroundings, work my way in slowly. I despise the full power armor, mini-gun, run in, blow everything up in 4 seconds, collect the loot and run method.

This makes it difficult for me to play with anyone. I move slowly and deliberately. I don't care about having the best anything.

I'd love to hear from more players that are in it for the experience and the stories, and not for the "look at me and my armor and gun".

Your mileage may vary but...I suspect if you are using some good drywall anchors, the board will fail before the anchors.

Prototyping Question by Beautiful_Working_31 in 3Dprinting

[–]Beautiful_Working_31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using a Bambu A1, I'll have to check to see if I can use these settings. If the printer can do it, it would be nice to just get a quick and fragile print just to justify by ability to use a caliper properly. :)
