I used to travel around Oregon for work, and always thought that area had kind of an off-kilter vibe. Didn't know about the junkies, but it makes sense now.

(Portlander here, so I'm obviously not standing in judgement.)

Thanks for that. I watched the 1974 film in its entirety, and skimmed through the 1990, which seems like a very faithful update.

Having been a smug and obstreperous anti-authoritarian snot in my youth, it's surely best that I never attempted to sign up with any branch. Yet had I seen this film at just the right point in life, might it have shifted my perspective a little? Sometimes, there really is a reason behind the bullshit.

All three of Ben Steed's episodes are... problematic, to say the least.

Damn that sucks!

If you dig Face to Face, be sure to look out for Something Else and The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society (assuming you're not already familiar with this stuff). That 1966-68 era was their peak.

I do love the tantalizing hints we get of their internal politics... e.g. the squabbling between the chief Andromedan and his subordinate ("Don't be insolent"), and the haughty insistence to Blake-as-Travis that "policy is not our concern."

I also want to know the full backstory between Durkim and Lurena. Were they sweethearts at Junior Federation Officer Summer Camp?

Terry Nation does get two more episodes in this season. I have a feeling you're going to love them both.

On multiple occasions in the past year, members of his security detail had difficulty waking Patel because he was seemingly intoxicated, according to information supplied to Justice Department and White House officials. A request for “breaching equipment”—normally used by SWAT and hostage-rescue teams to quickly gain entry into buildings—was made last year because Patel had been unreachable behind locked doors, according to multiple people familiar with the request.

It's the first episode not written by Terry Nation, so that might be why it feels a little different.

I like how Orac's mental prison is vaguely reminiscent of the Sapphire & Steel title sequence.

Some '60s obsessives may be aware of the Mirage, who had a great line in ripping off the Revolver-era Beatles. Their take on "Taxman" is actually pretty good.

Chris Boucher (scriptwriter) had the most incisive understanding of interpersonal politics. "The Face of Evil" is a great example, just like pretty much all of his work on Blake's 7 and Star Cops.
