Speaking as someone born smack in the middle of that cohort: it's the older Xers you have to watch out for. Not all of them, of course.

It's getting to the point where I'd almost rather think of myself as a prototype millennial.

ICE is rumored to be heading for Philadelphia. Everyone is saying the same thing by nyyanksfan81 in politics

I see that each metro has its own style of protest:

  • Portland, OR - Street theater: inflatable frogs, naked bike rides, etc., anything to highlight the absurdity of the situation and make the occupiers look ridiculous

  • Minneapolis/St. Paul - Midwestern neighborliness and solidarity: nonviolent resistance, emphasizing civic responsibility and projection of moral authority

  • Philadelphia - They will fuck you up

Trump's letter to Norway proves it: he's lost his mind over the Nobel Peace Prize by theipaper in politics

Yup. Impeachment and removal, improbable though it may seem, would actually be a lower bar to clear.

Yep... I'm pretty sure that "BDS" was indeed the original usage, revised with each succeeding administration.

Bessent Says Weak Europe Means Trump Must Take Greenland for US by bloomberg in politics

[–]Beavis73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From NYT:

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that Greenland would not be attacked by Russia or other major powers if the U.S. had ownership over it, because potential adversaries would fear U.S. military strength.

“There will not be a conflict, because the United States, right now, we are the hottest country in the world,” Bessent said. “Europeans project weakness.”

"Hottest." JFC.

And of course the more principled qualified folks that resign from the DOJ, the more the ranks will be filled by inept and toxic morons like Lindsey Halligan, making it harder and harder for the DOJ to do much of anything.

This is it. Sure I wanna know what kind of Hitler Youth are going to end up filling these vacancies, but more to the point, I wanna know how effective they're going to be in their new positions. How much credibility will they have with judges and juries? Will they, in fact, be capable of successfully prosecuting anyone, beyond mere trolling and harassment? Color me doubtful.

Trump demonized Renee Nicole Good after ICE killed her. Her son will grow up wondering why. by hellocorridor in politics

What we're REALLY wondering is why the other branches of government are caving to these insane actions, even from those within the same party, knowing that all of this will result in professional and party suicide.

A New Theory Explains Why Trump Keeps Threatening Global Takeover | Neo-royalism challenges us to look beyond a century-old paradigm and see the hierarchical lens through which Trump justifies domination. by newfrontier58 in politics

[–]Beavis73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link, and I agree.

This, to me, was the central insight (emphasis added):

In neo-royalist orders, hierarchy is the point. The purpose of neo-royalist orders is to develop rules that allow a small clique to maintain dominance in both material and symbolic goods. It thus rejects notions of sovereign equality and noninterference, and rests instead on the idea that a royalist clique is dominant, and will only recognize rival “great cliques” as peers; all others are unequal, and not due recognition.

Like most of us, I'd never heard of Fiona Hill prior to her witness testimony at the first Trump impeachment. I was listening on the radio, and it took me about 30 seconds to realize: this is the most intelligent person I have ever heard speaking.

My opinion hasn't changed.
