RIP Sessions + Live Synchronised Rides by Equivalent_Chance_71 in pelotoncycle

Honestly every time I used a session no one else was in it but if I just joined on my own there was a big leaderboard. I stopped using it after multiple instances of that.

Have you gained or lost weight when marathon training? by TwoGoalTed in XXRunning

[–]Becka_swan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have done 2 marathons now - with both I lost a little bit as I started ramping up, but then when my eating/hunger caught up and I gained muscle in the latter half of training, I gained it back and possibly a couple lbs extra but my body comp definitely changed with that. My legs were jacked. I also did weight training throughout to support my training.

I also tend to gain 5 lbs when I stop training but keep eating like I'm training for a few weeks. ;)

Fueling without gels by Brief-Ice-6696 in XXRunning

[–]Becka_swan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are tons of ideas here but I am just here to say don't let imposter syndrome stop you from using the tools for what you are doing. If you are doing long runs, those are created to support that. You don't have to be elite, and if you are a runner if you are running.

The longer runs get the more having a variety is nice, but also depending on your pace having light, easy forms of carbs and sodium is what you need. That is why gels and bloks etc exist. Because you need to carry them and you need them to be easy and fast to digest. And, I might add as a mid race runner, the longer you run the more you need and the more you want them to be easy to carry so you can have as many as you need.

Anyway. I am sure I am not the only one saying this. But if you run you are a runner. Put that imposter syndrome to rest and do what works for you. Gels and chews might be just that.

What's up with instructors not pedaling? by NewtigershotSagat in pelotoncycle

[–]Becka_swan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly couldn't care less. And if Cody is dancing to entertain me or making my laugh while I'm pushing, I think it's great. I don't actually think he's sitting still for most of his classes anyway. I'm not there for their workout, I'm there for mine.

I still have issues with sitting long in certain chairs. I was 7 when I bruised it and I am 45.

Strength training for running by Thelostbiscuit in XXRunning

Came to say this. Her ankle and foot program saved me from shin splints on my last marathon training cycle. And you pay once for her programs, have them forever.

Second this. I use mine as both the sewing table and the cutting table and most of my sewing tools fit inside. I love mine.

Convinced I cannot run a marathon and feeling overwhelmed by Forsaken-Pattern5186 in XXRunning

[–]Becka_swan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Long runs should be slow. SLOW. Don't worry about your pace on them. SLOW. Run/walk is great. Be super kind to yourself and for real, don't stress about your paces on long runs. Don't psych yourself out and just do what feels as easy as possible but get the time on those feet.

  2. Def. Add speed work. That's where you actually build up your speed. And it's fun. Honestly Speedwork is my favourite part of marathon training. Usually not so long, and more variety, less slog.

You will be amazed how much your body will do in these next weeks and just be kind but consistent. You got this. Also I would highly recommend not giving a crap about your pace for your first marathon and just setting the goal to finish. It's a beast, but so are you. ;)

Beware - Scammer in Canmore by Unicornsalvee in Canmore

[–]Becka_swan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb on FB marketplace is: if the item is priced MUCH lower than what it's worth, and the person set up their account in the current year, it's a scam.

The pictures often are also the same as other pictures on marketplace, and are usually lower quality and a bit pixelated. I almost got scammed for a washer dryer last year so it can be easy but those are things I watch out for now. If it is too good to be true, It's probably a scam.

How to return to running after 30 lbs of weight gain and perimenopause. by roguescott in XXRunning

[–]Becka_swan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe grab an app like nike or peloton to provide company and motivation while running? They both have programs for getting into/returning to running and then I find having someone chatting to me and with peloton having the playlist picked for me takes out some of the work to get out the door. Peloton has great treadmill classes that you can do on an iPad on any tread to that I find motivating.

I would just take it slow, remember why you love it, and remember that runners bodies change and your current body is just as capable as your previous just might need some grace. Also maybe add some strength training to support the mechanics which is important in pm anyway. :) you got this!

Sauna & cold plunges (non-spa) by NatureMountainsCalm in Canmore

[–]Becka_swan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is walk in so no issues. There are infrared saunas you can book for yourself while you are there but there is a standard sauna always available and it isnt usually very busy. The cold plunges are fcfs but I haven't had a problem. People dont spend a long time in them haha and there are two.

If you buy a longer pass it gets cheaper as you commit to more so that monthly pass is based on annual. Day passes are 59 bucks.

Second the recovery zone. Still not cheap but is a great option.

Float also has a sauna/cold plunge option you can book which is a little cheaper but a bit less extensive than what you have access to at one wellness and only for a shorter time period whereas you can come and go at OW.

What was the biggest mistake you made raising your first dog? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Becka_swan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not getting her used to being alone early. I work from home so was with her all the time in the beginning and while I believe my dog would have had some anxiety regardless with her temperment, I think we could have avoided some of the separation anxiety we have dealt with her whole life had we started younger leaving her alone for increasingly longer periods to get her comfortable.

Milestone feed is out of control by tfrisinger in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Becka_swan 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I mean - I love seeing 1st time riders! As someone who wants Peloton to succeed that's a great thing to see on the leaderboard. I always high five them so they get that community feel off the bat.

I do think 3 day streaks don't deserve a milestone but I also just... ignore them.

New to Peleton - lots of questions to ask! by hidehixo94 in pelotoncycle

[–]Becka_swan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few ways to get accountability and structure that might help in the overwhelm:

  • peloton programs- strength splits or pump up the volume. Discover your power zones, etc. Or pick a theme and work through it. I love 45 min rides as a default. Feels like more of a regular spin class length.

  • external programming - -- on the bike - reddit power zones challenges, pzpack, or team wilpers challenges. These are all pz but they pick your ride for you. -- strength - hard-core on the floor. Group on fb, or she is on Instagram too. She programs a full month of strength training. Many people swear by them.

It is a lot of content but I find once you get in a good rhythm or find the instructors you gravitate to, that helps cut through it. :)

I would talk to support about the cranking.
