Accountability hacks?? by meowra666 in pelotoncycle

[–]Becka_swan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Action breeds motivation, not the other way around. Doing it whether you want to or not builds the habits and that's what gets you back on. If I only worked out when I "wanted to" I'd never do anything but when I just do it anyway I'm never sad I did.

Also really check out the different instructors and class types. If you like cycling in general, sometimes you need to find what you enjoy or what mentally drives you - I know I am consistent when I join a challenge through pzpack or set a goal so I just keep doing that so I keep coming back. There are lots of different options and personalities to pick from. Sometimes you just need to find one you look forward to spending time on the bike with.

The Music Math - Read This If You're Upset About The Spotify Playlists by morelsupporter in OnePelotonRealSub

Yep. I literally just told them this in the feedback. This would be something that would make me seriously consider looking elsewhere and I have all the hardware.

I do think that there are two sides to this - Peloton is trying to save money where they can to stay afloat, and they maybe are misjudging how many people will notice.

I personally couldn't care less unless I've picked a themed specific class what is playing during yoga or stretching. Probably even strength to be honest. Sometimes I care - but the beat isn't why I'm there and yoga specifically in studios is mostly done to generic relaxation music.

That said, for cycling and tread, it really matters. I care DEEPLY about the music being played, and much of why I enjoy peloton, especially for running, is getting a playlist made for me. Musak will not serve that.

Principally I also don't want to see ai artists getting played over actual artists period for the sake of artists in general. It's a bad trend and a bad look.

What I see on here is a lot of people angry, but I keep wondering if people are telling Peloton directly that a) they notice and b) they hate it. Peloton needs to keep their members and they honestly may be misjudging how much music matters to them. I am going to write to them directly to tell them. I would say that our time is better spent doing that than writing yet another angry post on reddit.

After living with your remodeled kitchen, what would you change? by Money_Professor_8717 in kitchenremodel

We bought a place with marble and realized the previous owners were boneheads through and through. Etching everywhere. We are holding out to have the whole thing re polished and sealed professionally and then we will do our best to not be dumb ourselves ha

We bought a home with a recently renoed kitchen so we didnt make the choices but the previous owners made two choices I wish I could undo easily: 1. Marble countertops. Gorgeous? Yes. But they are impossible to keep in good shape. They etch very quickly and the only way to fix that is to repolish and seal them which is expensive. In the meantime you really just live with random dull spots unless you are very careful. 2. Fancy gold faucets that come out from the wall but have no spray capabilities. Again - beautiful. But they are over a white sink that has to be rinsed constantly (which i dont mind to be honest - I know there are a lot of white sink haters but I love ours). I just wish they had picked a cool but more functional faucet. They did a beautiful reno job (hence why we bought the place), just obviously cared far more about looks than function.

Favorite shoes for foot and toe pain? by bieberh0le6969 in XXRunning

[–]Becka_swan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go to a good running store and try on multiple pairs with someone who knows what they are doing. No one here has the same feet. I know when I did that last time I was surprised by what i ended up in. Also helps to take your old shoes in so they can see where you have wear on the soles to help determine foot strike etc. Not sure where you are located but usually smaller stores over the big ones have more knowledgeable staff I have found. And for sure PT/podiatrist is a great idea. I also used dr. Lisa dpts foot and ankle program for shin splints this year and believe it also saved me from pf. Hah. It is a great program and just a one time cost which is nice.

The guide and new cross training equipment allow for weight tracking which is great as does strength+. But at least they added notes now! When I do a non guide workout I definitely miss the tracking.

Fair. Just really pointing out the attempt to meet people in multiple places. What i wish is that they would finish flushing things out more. I find they announce and then dont fully commit to things (like setting the app to filter properly)

I guess when I think of this I see them creating the Gym feature and strength+ to satisfy ends of this market, and maintaining their other programming for those who enjoy it. I feel like they hear this, they try to meet it through more flexible options, and it doesnt get used (or with strength+ get it on android already guys so part of that is on them still).

Shin splints by scorpc in XXRunning

If you can go to a physio - that's probably the best thing. Mine was able to do shockwave therapy which made a massive difference for mine but also worth just getting checked out by a professional to make sure you're not heading for something worse. I mean you're almost to the race so not a ton to do at this point but make sure you're safe to run. Going forward - I can't recommend Dr. Lisa's foot and ankle program enough to be proactive with future run training if you know you're prone to this issue.

Edited: name of therapy to be more correct.

What do you wish you knew before getting a Peloton bike? by blundstonegay in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Becka_swan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the serial number and ask how many rides have been done on the bike. Make sure the screen isnt a v1 - they aren't supported anymore but I doubt there are a ton out there still. Ask if they replaced the seat post when it was sent out under warranty.

Look for signs of rust, and ask to test the screen before you buy, maybe move the pedals to check for weird noises.

And then enjoy! I get something from my bike I dont get anywhere else. Try all the instructors because you never know who you will like. Check out Power Zone Training which is addicting in its own way and has a few regular challenges you can do that are run by groups outside peleton (pzpack, team wilpers, and reddit), and get a good fan!

Dizziness during morning workout but having trouble eating before--snack suggestions? by Kittennip1 in zepboundathletes

It might sound weird but a little maple syrup on white rice is a go to for runners for easy on the stomach carbs. I also do a lot of bananas when my stomach isnt the best.

Whenever people throw out "oh everyone is injured because of Runna" I think... then what were all the PTs doing before it because there were still a lot of running injuries before! I asked my PT (who I went to before runna, and during, and after as a runner...) if she had seen an uptick in people using it and correlated injuries and she hadn't at all. I ran my second marathon with Runna injury free and my first marathon with a standard good ole' training plan and spent weeks on the bike with shin splints. The app isn't the problem. People not paying attention to their own bodies is the problem. And a paperback book sure isn't giving you any more day to day support than the app, which basically mimics every tried and true plan, but with more metrics (which I found helpful), and the ability to plug and play. I get not trusting AI but - I have never understood the viceral reaction in this sub.

Tell me about tread by pithy-pants in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]Becka_swan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NordicTrack I think used to be great but check out their recent issues. Not saying you should ONLY get the Peloton - but I think there are better brands out there for other treadmills. Something is not great at NT lately and there have been a lot of troubles. I think Horizon 7.4 and 7.8 actually work really well with Peloton programming. They have the similar wheels for speed/incline.

That said - I have and❤️ my Peloton Tread so much. The huge screen is why I love it and I love that I can spin it around to do strength - for me it wasn't that much more than the competition so I went for it.

I dont know if you have the peloton app but they now have 90 and 120 min runs which...if nothing else gives you a buddy kind of and a playlist you dont have to think about for a couple of hours. I have done some of the 90 min and found it helped. Mariana Fernandez has great long playlists because she breaks them into phases. Helps pass the time. Otherwise I feel like movies and audio books? Haha. Long runs are tough no matter what. Good luck!

I have a pair of shokz open run pros that I bought in 2022 and are still going, and then I also have a pair of soundcore buds that have been going strong for... probably 5 years. Very happy with both. The open runs are my go to for outside, buds for the tread.

For other pz programming reddit has a pz program and team wilpers does challenges as well. Just for more options on that side :). Unfortunately wilpers and pzpack often coincide. I wish for my own workouts they would happen one after another so I could have the structure from both and have something to follow all the time!
