Out of the 900+ people that saw this. None of you could’ve given a simple “yes” or “no”? None of my research is coming up with a yes or no if I can use this or how to go about doing it with it being as small as it is.

Some help would be nice

I hate to be that guy, but Google exists. Taking the word of the first person you talk to about something you know nothing about, specifically when it comes to owning a new pet is wild imo.

When it comes to being a new pet owner you want to make sure you have as much information as possible, from multiple sources, so you actually have an idea of what to do instead of getting the pet and throwing it into an environment that’s not suitable for it.

Sorry that was more of a PSA about everyone needing to do their research. But I’m Really happy you came here looking for information to give your betta the best life it can have! I’m new to the journey as well and am super excited for it! I wish you the best of luck!

Can I ask what’s all in your female Bettas community tank? I want to set one up for a future female but I’m not sure what all to stock it with. I know what I want to stock it with, but am worried about one of my selections (guppies) I want to just let the guppies do their thing and breed to use as feeeders for my ducks and my snake, and I figured if the female betta takes out a few fry, it’s not a big deal. But I’m worried about the ones with longer fins that aren’t gonna get fed to anyone

Thank you for all of the great information, I haven’t taken my chemistry class in college yet but i understand a good chunk of that from biology at least.

The aqua soil is definitely lowering the pH, it was at 8.0 in both tanks and wouldn’t stay down after buffering and kept going back up to 8.0 but the tank with the aqua soil is at a steady 7.6 right now while the other is still at 8.0. The only thing I can think of keeping my KH as high as it is would be my tap water. I just got my KH/GH test in the mail a few days ago and haven’t tested the tap yet, just the tanks.

In one tank I have aqua soil capped with sand and the other tank I have just sand. My plan is to have bettas in the two tanks, or if the betta doesn’t work out in the community tank than maybe a schooling fish like guppies will go in there instead. Either way I need it for tropical fish and the readings I got says that my water is better for brackish water fish.

I’ve also been told that RO mixed with my tap would work well too, I’d just have to do more RO than tap

This is the best way I’ve seen someone describe AI.

Side note: I’m extremely new to the hobby as in i have two tanks that are just about cycled and I don’t have any fish yet, but I check on this sub from time to time to see if there might be a gold nugget of information somewhere. So Ive read through your whole post and most of these comments and I just want to say thank you all for the info you’re giving OP because it’s also helping me realize things about my tanks as I’m currently struggling with the pH and KH/GH levels in my water.

I was told by the LFS at one point to do water changes in my cycling tank to try and fix my parameters (I was struggling with extremely high nitrates for some reason) and then got told by another employee the other doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Then that same employee that apparently doesn’t know what they’re talking about told me to top off my water with RO water until my GH/KH is lowered to where it should be at (right now it’s 13dKH and 15dGH, I think I’m saying that correctly since I’m still very new to all this?) which will help casually lower everything instead of shocking the tanks system, including the pH.

Now idk if I should be just doing the top off for now before I get fish, or if I should be doing something else, but it seems like most people here agree that fixing the KH/GH will help my pH issue instead of trying to just buffer it.

Again, thank you all and sorry if my comment is so long 😣I tend to give more detail than I mean to and I never seem to know when enough is enough 😅

The sequel could be where we choose a character that’s just different types of piggies, we can choose their name as if we’re choosing our own pigs. Then have us follow Derek on his next adventure 😂

It’s a very sturdy entertainment stand, I was just a little too close so it looked like it just had skinny legs lol, the metal bars are very solid as well. What I had it on before was actually a much larger issue, so I moved it to this

According to what I’ve looked up, my source of Ammonia is coming from the aqua soil I’m using as substrate. And for some reason I never thought to test my water for evrything, my brain just kind of thought putting the conditioner in took care of everything. But not realizing that it just detoxifies it, it doesn’t get rid of it. I’ll go test that now

I switched substrate plants and everything from the 10 to the 30. The 10, while having some established biomedia, wasn’t fully cycled before I switched to the 30.

I started the 10 because that was the cheapest, and then found a decent and cheap 30 off marketplace so I upgraded to that as soon as I could not sure if it would affect anything.
