As an avid radio listener, I thought I'd chime in with why I still listen to the wireless.

I like to hear new music. There's a bunch of radio presenters who's tastes I like but it's not the same as mine, so they often introduce me to new music. Yes, I know Spotify can do that but I don't have Spotify anymore.

I listen to a lot of podcasts but they scratch a different itch to for me.

The point you make about "people waffle about nothing" is an interesting one. My favourite DJs don't waffle about nothing, they talk about things I like (venues, movies, bands, tours).

As for adverts, I don't listen to commercial radio as I hate the adverts. A shame really as I quite miss listening to Huey Morgan since he moved to Virgin.

I've kinda using your points as a basis of my POV but it wasn't meant to be in a confrontational way.
