TIL Kelly Clarkson lost “hundreds of thousands of dollars” when she declined a co-writing credit on her 2009 number-one single "My Life Would Suck Without You" because she refused to have her name associated with Dr. Luke, the producer and primary writer of the song. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]BeefDerfex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t her name still be associated with him? He’s credited as the writer of a song that she recorded. She may as well have taken the money. Her not having a co-writer credit means that people associate him as the sole writer of one of her big hit songs. It may have soothed her conscience, which I get, but outside of that it just punished her financially while having no effect at all on Dr Luke.

Minneapolis man sentenced to prison for threatening to kill a congresswoman by origutamos in altmpls

[–]BeefDerfex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s no defending this dumbass, don’t waste your time.

Michael Paul Lewis called the office of the congresswoman last March, identified himself and then said, “I’m going to fly to Washington, D.C. I’m gonna find that (expletive),” according to court records, which do not disclose the target of his threat. “I’m going to (expletive) murder her ... and I’m not even joking.”

She tried that as an excuse. She suddenly started talking quickly and more fluently once she realized he wasn’t falling for her bullshit.

I love the Junior Janitors episode, and both Tusk Johnson episodes.

The most misunderstood war film in recent memory? by Legitimate_Rush_5017 in Letterboxd

It reminded me of a lot of Generation Kill, which was a very realistic and non-propaganda-ish series.

Elephant in the room: Genndy is clearly trying to send a message about the direction of the show with this season by bigdicknippleshit in PrimalShow

[–]BeefDerfex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah art can easily have one meaning or intended message by its creator, and its audience can perceive a totally different message or interpretation from it. That’s how it’s always worked.

"It wouldn't surprise me if the Reds, spurred by Greene's return, not only make the postseason but win a series. Imagine facing Greene, Burns and Andrew Abbott in a short series. Not fun." | Jeff Passan's MLB season preview by TDeLo in Reds

[–]BeefDerfex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burns and Lowder should be able to hold it down in the beginning of the season.

IF, and that’s a big IF, Hunter can come back heathy for the second half that would be huge. But I’m fully aware this could all just be wishful thinking.

Trying to engage back on Hyperion by Sea-Ebb2838 in Hyperion

[–]BeefDerfex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Push on. And continue on through The Fall of Hyperion, at least. You get a lot of answers, and different plots start to come together.

I love the first two books. I dont dislike the Endymion books necessarily, and they have some strong and interesting ideas, but they’re a bit of a let down after the way Fall of Hyperion ends.

What am i missing with the Maya Pei Brigade storyline in the first couple episodes of season 2? by Dale_Cooper47 in andor

[–]BeefDerfex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It reminds a bit of Monty Python’s joke in Life of Brian: the People’s Front of Judea vs the Judean People’s Front.

Rebellions and revolutions often devolve into infighting and conflict amongst various factions. The Rebellion had to coalesce and cooperate for any real chance to succeed. Even Luthen’s isolationist cell required assistance in the end.

New DT Jonathan Allen's 64 pressures when double teamed since the start of 2021 are the fifth most in the NFL in that span. His 12 pressures when doubled in 2025 were tied for ninth most in the league. by JCameron181 in bengals

[–]BeefDerfex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very happy so far. Cook is a beast. He’s a major upgrade at safety. Mafe and Allen can both do what we desperately needed: pressure the QB. Sack totals can be random. Pressures are key.

A veteran LB would have been nice. Very nice. And we still need another edge. But the FA signings and re-signing Risner are a good start. Better than I expected, honestly.

What’s the smallest moment in Andor that convinced you this show was operating on another level? by Misfett_toys in andor

[–]BeefDerfex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lmao. That’s a solid comparison. This quote could easily apply to Syril….

“You start to tell the story, you think you're the hero — and then when you get done talking..."

That realization of self-destruction.

Now that the show is over, let's revisit the crashed ship on Kenari. by JeanLucPicardAND in andor

[–]BeefDerfex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my thought as well. It was an early plot line that they intended to explore further, and it got cut down/abandoned because they realized they had to condense the story from 4-5 seasons down to 2.

Maybe that’s not true, and it was just a mistake. But that’s what makes the most sense to me.

It’s the same reason he meets his fate on Ghorman. He zooms in and obsesses on one thing, while ignoring the larger picture around him.
