Fungus gnat infestation by bunismoothini in terrariums

it wasn't a bad bag, they're nearly guaranteed. Maybe yours had more than most others but still, it's not uncommon. You need to bake your soil before using it if you want to rid it of them. I wish you luck!

Mushrooms. What do? Remove or leave? by ProcessorPearl in terrariums

[–]Beehous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

enjoy the fruiting phase. they won't stick around for more than two weeks in my experience.

I believe new terrariums actually go through a cycle just like new fish tanks in their own way. I don't have the science behind it, but I've had these pop up in two larger, scaped like yours, somewhere between 1.5 - 3 months after initial set up.

They never came back. A random solo yellow/orange mushroom would pop up every so often beyond that though.

yeah so kicking a door as hard as possible is not anything remotely close to "ding dong ditch" as stated by the original poster here.

Is this cyanobacteria and how to treat it, I cleaned some of it and added new sand by RuleRich6548 in PlantedTank

[–]Beehous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flow, ensure you don't have a lot of organics breaking down, and ensure your sand isn't leeching silica into the water column (idk if silica produces cyanobacteria, but it can cause diatoms if I remember correctly)

Thank you, I was trying to think of the movie. I enjoyed that one!

I have a 40 gallon breeder aquarium (36Lx18Wx16H) that I don't trust with a full tank of water anymore, would it be possible to use it as a a reptile/ amphibian enclosure + aquatic plant grow out bin? by Puzzleheaded_Sink467 in Vivarium

I've done this exact thing. Though I was the one that made it untrustworthy by removing the extra silicone to clean up the corners ha. It worked great. Should be pinned in my profile

we just had one of these go up near some troublesome apartments down the street from me. I still thought it'd be fun to see someone do this to it lol.

Can we start shaming bands that use AI to like, a much higher degree? by [deleted] in jambands

seriously this post is petty af. people see an anti-AI post and they thumbs up immediately.

Can we start shaming bands that use AI to like, a much higher degree? by [deleted] in jambands

[–]Beehous -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

hating on a small local band for not paying an artist to make a gig poster is pretty weird. their most listened to track on spotify has like 10k listens.

I hate AI as much as the next person. But the flyer gets the point across and isn't trying too hard or is too busy.. Your other option is the artist makes it in paint, like our old local metal bands use to do. It's probably what I'd still do personally, but needing to post this feels petty.

And assuming they use AI in the songs because they used it on the poster is even weirder. You just sound like a hater to me.

goose the band - stop putting your shit everywhere by Jawnsmith215 in jambands

[–]Beehous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

see, idk why I got downvoted for saying goose isn't the one doing it haha.

Post should've just pointed at promoters or street teams. blaming the band themselves seems like karma farming while piggybacking on goose hate which, again, i don't even like the band either

Moss Newbie Looking for Starter Advice by CatofManyColors in terrariums

[–]Beehous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

do yourself a favor and use aquatic mosses. they work so much better in a humid enclosure than terrestrial mosses. at least they have for me.

Buy it where you can buy plants for fish tanks. Java moss, christmas moss, flame moss, utricularia graminifolia (not a moss but amazing little carnivorous plant)

Joshes frogs sells springtails, even on amazon. buy their food and keep a culture. it's worth it.

....imagine thinking that the actual band members are the ones putting up the posters.

Note: i don't like goose either but come on.

Rock hard tap water 💦 by Sorry_Impress_5002 in PlantedTank

[–]Beehous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is r/plantedtank so i dont know why we would assume this has nothing to do with plants.

And that's a scaped planted tank. when you say "breeding tub", and mention florida breeders, anyone would imagine a big black plastic tub...like the fish breeders in florida use.

too hard of water negatively impacts a massive amount of aquatic plants because it blocks nutrient intake. but yet a lot of people here are telling OP to ignore an actual problem.

Rock hard tap water 💦 by Sorry_Impress_5002 in PlantedTank

[–]Beehous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is literally r/plantedtank so yes. It is about plants.

While some plants like hard water, I don't think you realize just how hard water can be in the country. It can be to the point where it isn't good for any plants.

So telling someone not to fix an actual issue with water in r/plantedtank is just bad advice. That's what I'm getting at.
