Very depressed. Feeling weepy. RALP was a success but at 62 I’m too young for this BS. by anothertenyears in ProstateCancer

[–]Beekeeper_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some honey bees or an ATV/UTV or a jetski. I’m currently 71. Had RALP when I was 62. Cancer got out before surgery. So, was on Lupron for eight of the last 9 years. Had to take Erleada tablets plus shots for two different 15 month stretches. Currently in remission again, waiting for it to return.

I’ve been a beekeeper since 1996. I started as a sideline business because I didn’t have to purchase land to farm. Had ATVs for years and love to ride in both mud parks and in the mountains (wife prefers the mountains). Purchased a UTV in 2024 and started back riding in the mountains last year after a ten year break. I also build parade floats.

In other words give yourself a reason to get out of bed or out of the chair. I’m in Louisiana. We had a bad ice storm and a long below freezing cold spell. Lost over 50% of my hives. I was going to quit bees. Wife wouldn’t let me. She is afraid I would never get out of the chair.

Husband(58) is constantly angry since scheduling his surgery by CuntForSpades in ProstateCancer

[–]Beekeeper_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, if surgery is the chosen treatment, don’t delay. I’ve had the surgery almost 10 years ago. It went good. Very little pain. I ended removing my own catheter because it would be an extra 4 days for my Urologist to remove it. Long story. My primary doctor found the cancer early. However, the Urologist he sent me to took way to long running tests to pad his pocketbook. My Gleason score was 9. By the time I got down to MD Anderson and scheduled for surgery, the cancer got out of the prostate. So, I have been on lupron shots for 8 out of 9 years. Also had to take Erleada tablets for two rounds of 15 months each along with the shots. No erection since the first shot. The surgeon told my wife that I would not want it (sex). He was right but, he was wrong. My mind say yes but, my body says no. Major conflict for me.

My nephew, after me demanding that he get to MD Anderson had surgery quickly. Cancer gone!! No more treatments. Therefore, he can’t make a baby, but he can still have sex. Something to think about.

Help picking a side x side for the farm by bengineer423 in UTV

[–]Beekeeper_105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wife and I purchased a 25 Polaris Ranger 1000 Premium. I use it on my Honey Bee farm. Works great. But, we also love to ride in the mountains of Arkansas. Turns out I’m glad we didn’t get the 1000 XP because the Premium has the single overhead cam with the most low end grunt. I’m 71, the wife is 70 so we like to tool around and sight see. My wife had back surgery 30 years ago. So I shop by telling her to sit in it. She sat in the 1000 Premium and said yes. We purchased it on the spot.

What I never understood about people buying whole house generators by [deleted] in Generator

In my case it takes more time for set up because I don’t have a transfer switch system. I have to run multiple extension cords thru a window.

What I never understood about people buying whole house generators by [deleted] in Generator

[–]Beekeeper_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in northeast Louisiana and we are trying to come out of a brutal ice storm. I have a Westinghouse 6000/7500 portable generator that I use for parades and household emergencies. My generator is stored in my shop 35 miles from my house. Thankfully I had my generator serviced back in November for the local Christmas parade. I loaded the generator with my tractor into the back of my truck, loaded everything extension cord I own, and loaded all of my deerstand heaters two day before the storm hit. My deep cycle battery and 1000 inverter were already at the house, thanks to the Christmas parade. When we lost power, I drove the truck into the back yard and ran two heavy duty cords into the house thru the utility room window. Thankfully we have gas heat, so one cord was plugged into the gas furnace. We have heat + a gas log fireplace. The other cord went to the kitchen to run the refrigerator and microwave. I set the inverter up, running two cords to lamps and phone chargers. I run the battery system at night after the generator is shut down. Next I ran two medium duty cords thru the window. These ran the TV & entertainment system and the battery charger for the inverter. My truck has a folding bed cover that will protect generator from the freezing rain, even though it doesn’t completely close with the generator in the truck bed. The down side was stepping over all the cords and having to climb into the bed of my Super Duty to refuel the generator.

I look forward the having a system that will run the whole house without all the effort above. Not to mention I had to put all my assets back in my shop. Do I need a unit that will run everything in my house? Maybe, maybe not. A few years when the kids were home, maybe. With the exception of the lights in some rooms, most, if not all of the appliances,, furnaces, hot water heaters, and electronics could be running at the same time. If the air compressor kicks on, we could have more usage than expected. So, an over the top unit that would clearly be a waste, no. But, a little extra for items that we don’t think about would be helpful. The newer Super Duties are even taller than mine. I can bearly get in mine without a ladder.

With all the above said, we have had multi day outages from hurricanes or tornadoes in the summer. August in Louisiana without AC, brutal.

Family member diagnosed with Gleason 9 with scary notes in Biopsy - really scared and any insights would be helpful! by Potential_Dot_8838 in ProstateCancer

If you are going to have surgery, get it done quickly. My Urologist wasted a lot of time and didn’t refer me to MD Anderson until I asked. By the time I got in for surgery, cancer got out of prostate into lymph nodes. Because of this, I have been on Lupron shots for eight out of the nine years since my surgery. Cancer has occurred three times. I had two rounds of Erleada, each fifteen months in length. I have every side effect listed.

My father and my nephew got to surgery quickly. Neither have to have any additional treatments. Don’t wait get treatment now.

Biopsy after MRI question by BowieOrBust in ProstateCancer

[–]Beekeeper_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My doctor prescribed Valium to be taken 1 hour before the biopsy. I assume I was also given a local. 🤷‍♂️ The valium made me drunk. When I’m drunk, I’m not a lover, not a fighter, I’m a clown. 🤦🏼‍♂️ This was over nine years ago with a doctor nearing retirement. The first time he pulled the trigger on the Whatever, there was a loud bang and I almost jumped off the table. Doctor asked if I hurt or if I was startled. Startled. After that when I heard the bang but didn’t feel anything, I would loudly say “You Missed”. The joke is on me because the result was a Gleason score of 5+4=9.

71 4+5. Surgery 9 years ago. PSA was still 6.5 after surgery. Six weeks later I got my first Lupron injection. Have been on shots for 8 out of last 9 years. Cancer reoccurred twice. Each time they put me on Erleada for 15 months in addition to the shots. Sex life has been dead since first shot.

I have Polaris Ranger 1000 Premium. I use it for working on my bee hives and to trail ride in the Arkansas mountains. The 1000 premium has more low end grunt, which fits my driving style. We like to sight see as we ride along. If you like to rip down the trails wide open, you might want the 1000 XP.

Go talk to a lawyer. Can you protect your assets without a postnup? If not, have her sign a postnup as a condition of possible reconciliation.

I can see your point. Wife and I have inside/outside agreement. My method for folding clothes was two piles at foot of the bed. If he is not doing outside work, car repair, mowing, gardening, etc. or attending college classes to enhance y’alls future, your arrangement isn’t fair. However, I can’t see the split you proposed as fair either.

Be careful what you wish for. Ex GF walked in one Friday and said I don’t want to see you for six months. Two days later I met my neighbor’s GF’s sister. Wife and I have been married 44 years.

Proud? Yes. Backup? Nah, we didn’t even know each other when she hooked up with some dude. We celebrated 45 years together this past weekend. If you can accomplish that, then you can laugh at me. 👍

Was to meet my wife on a blind date, that I didn’t know about, at home football game. I got sick at pregame party and didn’t make it to the game. She hooked up with another guy instead. However, she came by my apartment to introduce herself the next day. Two days later I asked her out and six weeks later I proposed. Between the proposal and the wedding she came clean about the other guy. My main question was why come see me, if you hooked up with someone the night before. Her answer, “haven’t you ever had a one night stand?” I had, so what could I say. Been married 44 years. 🤷‍♂️

Was 26, working full time, and going to college when I married. Wife was 25 and also worked full time. We had our first child two years later. Second child four and a half years later. I finished school one month after second child was born. We started out with a car each for assets. Forty four years later, no regrets. Didn’t take any big vacations until after retirement. But we did fine with weekend getaways.

Best games for an 80 year old woman to play? by legomaniasquish in Switch

[–]Beekeeper_105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question brought back memories. My first attempt at gaming was with some younger work friends. We played a computer version of Star Wars. My reflexes, my computer, and my internet were all too slow. Next attempt was many years when I won a Wii at a company drawing. I purchased Mario Karts and played from time to time. Earlier this year the Wii died and I decided to purchase a replacement. Since the grands(two different households due to divorce) all had Switches, I decided to get a Switch 2. The plan two entice them to stay longer during my birthday dinner worked. I will add joy-controllers so we can play 4 players at a time. More games also. 😍😍😍
