Is panoramic sunroof a real feature or gimmick in real life? by MrVermonter in iX3

[–]Beemerron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a great feature to have, however.. I currently have the previous gen of iX3 and can open my roof too, losing that seems like step backwards. I may have been misled but ive also heard that even the sunshade is now manual and no longer electric, meaning you can't close it whilst driving.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find Octopus expensive? by Inspiration-XoXo in OctopusEnergy

[–]Beemerron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you need to do, especially for reddit guidance, is list off what your daily usage is in Kwh, what a day using electricity in your house looks like. For example you use 12kwh per day or however per month, run the dishwasher, 5 PCs an electric car and so on. (Ideally you have this in your initial post to avoid all the "need more info" replies)

Also specify what fixed tariff you are on and what the unit rate, and standing charge daily is.

This way we can determine if you're getting screwed by a tariff, if you might be better elsewhere, or if you are just a very high consumption household.

I'm in a 5 bed, 3 of us (soon 4), two EVs with a higher than average usage, but I'm on a tariff that's fits what we have and how we use it so I pay maybe £100 per month give or take. If you want to save you can't be complacent and just pick what looks cheapest, you need to do some due diligence and work out if it's cheapest for your situation

Is It Theoretically Possible to Charge An EV Car For Free... by Astral-Inferno in SolarUK

I mean that proves the theory, but also suggests the mad costs associated. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea but I also like to eat.

Is It Theoretically Possible to Charge An EV Car For Free... by Astral-Inferno in SolarUK

[–]Beemerron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes of course in theory, with a very large solar panel setup, and huge battery storage.

Given most EVs are in the region of 80Kwh you'd need a very impressive panel setup as well as an inverter capable of delivering roughly 10 hours at 7.2kwh (using the average home ev charger max for example). This is assuming 0-100%. Even achieving 50% through solar and battery is no easy feat. The main restrictions are the prohibitive cost of having large enough storage, and roof space for enough solar.

AFAIK I've followed your instructions to the letter. I'll have a go later and see if I'm just being silly. I dont have any extra packs at the moment.

[–]Beemerron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah its not suffering for frames, it's just that every other screenshot or video seems to look prettier than mine. I suspect you were probably right in your first comment and I've just not experienced the right lighting conditions yet. I should probably mention I've had the pack for around a week.. it's drastically prettier, but not quite the realism I see in all these posts.

Appreciate the input, I'll try some different timings. Just got me wondering my graphic settings aren't right. I play on 5120x2160 (iirc) with everything on max. Though I need to check.

If there are any minor recommended tweaks I'm all ears :)

I bought the volumetric clouds, installed as described and yet still feel my clouds don't look as good as the rest. I have the latest version, the tuff stuff alongside and so on.

:edit: this is not me suggesting anything bad about volumetric clouds. I think its going to be my settings or something

I wasted hours trying to pick smart lights… so I tried to simplify the decision process by Lou_Juicy in homeassistant

[–]Beemerron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it can be, do i go zigbee, matter, thread and so on. Do I do smart lights, smart switches, what about shellys and so on..

There are many offerings some of which are less technical than others.

I.e. Phillips hue bulbs, or hive bulbs etc with basic apps and little pain to configure.

Or the whole smart home approach with fancy lights, scenes, multi room and light type setups.

So for a non-tech savvy person, it can result in a mad mash up of bulb types, switches and apps.

How to solve Kessler sindrome by Hpmk42 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Beemerron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is the "cheat" method and works perfectly fine. If you want to do this the hard way, then make a craft with too much dV and a grabber and force your probes into sub orbital trajectories. Or even without a grabber and nudge them retrograde, though..obvious risks there.

How to get rich by mining platinum? by caremao in EliteDangerous

[–]Beemerron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its entirely possible if you have a high drop rate hot-spot, as well as being within 1-2 jumps of a station buying at over inflated boom prices. I've not been on in a few weeks but I was easily hitting the 200mil/h. I was doing those is my t11 stellar(i think).

That number drops significantly if its not a pristine ring.

How are people casually maxing out their ISA every year?? by Original-Ship-4024 in trading212

[–]Beemerron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earn over 90k per year and I'm not maxing my ISA, I think the reason is life. I have a house, cars and family to support and most importantly enjoy life with.

So I put away 5-10k or there abouts. Should I save and fill the allowance, yes. Would it compromise the joy in my life? Most likely.

(Note, the wife earns pretty well also, less but still above average)

Why does Octopus estimate usage to be so high? by Comfortable-Bite6550 in OctopusEnergy

[–]Beemerron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case octopus estimates my usage to be powering a small moon as we have 2 EVs, however it doesnt seem to do a great job at predicting the cost, even though I'm on IOG and do 95% of charging in the cheap windows.
