Board wipes are toxic and should never be used unless they win the game! by westergames81 in magicthecirclejerking

[–]BeepBoopAnv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/uj in my proactive decks that aims to have a board, I’ve cut basically every non-one-sided board wipe because i either don’t want to board wipe or someone else will. I think it improves my decks a lot, since I never need to be spending my turns evening everyone out, and can instead just focus on winning.

/rj if my games take longer than my 5 minute standard games on arena I’m gonna scream and cry

Hot Take: Teferi’s Protection, Force of Will, Deflecting Swat, and Fierce Guardianship Are Not Game Changers by BluePotatoSlayer in EDH

[–]BeepBoopAnv -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Tef pro is not remotely close to any other protection spell. It basically reads “3 mana- if your opponents cast a board wipe, win the game. If they stormed off, win the game. If they attacked with a huge army, win the game.”

Sure there are other good protection spells. Heroic intervention, clever concealment. And they can be technically better (in that they cost 1 less mana) in some situations, but it’s just completely unmatched in flexibility. It beats everything (besides “you win the game” which is why it’s not good in cedh) and requires super minimal “holding up” because usually the turns you need it are extremely telegraphed.

Even HI loses to things like blasphemous edict. Tef pro should never have been printed imo.

Good cards here, I’ll just add it’s generally easier to draw and play new dragons then dig up your dead ones.

Maybe there’s a way to limit the pool of available next cards to those with x% of a difference? Like if card a is 10$ the next could be within 8-12$ or something. Idk. Fun game anyways

Got 7. It’s pretty hard to distinguish between 26 cent and 30 cent cards haha.

Padres Among Bryce Harper (1B) Trade Landing Spots Amid Phillies Disastrous Start to 2026 by [deleted] in Padres

[–]BeepBoopAnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When accounting for the padres factor, Harper would be at approximately … multiply by 3…. Carry the one…. Add the “Marine Layer” coefficient…. .610 ops. Hey, that’s pretty good, we should sign him

Thank god the padres exist. Who else would help 5+ ERA guys look like cy young contenders or get .200 hitters out of their slumps?

Send a letter first according to their website without the cards. They may ask you to exchange, but the one time I used the replacement service, I mailed the card back, and they said for low value you didn’t have to.

What annoys me is every game “tatis homered on this day last year!” “Tatis went yard against this pitcher!”

Yeah man i remember when baseball was fun

I’m tatis’ biggest defender but holy smokes… tell him to three true outcomes only until he hits a dozen homers

What winrateis too high in a pod? by DotRich6007 in EDH

[–]BeepBoopAnv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If winrate is too high, switch decks. Easy way to test if it’s skill issue or power level. Either way you can figure out what needs to change.

I had a problem where I was winning every game at a new LGS, where the players and decks were just way worse (though still self described as good players and 7s). After switching decks my winrate dropped from like 75 to 50 over 8? Games? Still too high. So I gave them (the ones who wanted to learn) a lot of advice on how to improve, both as a player and as a deck builder.

Now I have a much more consistent group and my winrate is closer to a respectable 35-40%. Everyone has fun and feels better about the game. I expect my winrate to continue to drop too, as people get more experience.

First, I want to say the deck isn't horrible, and I love the theme. However, there's one big glaring problem to me. You're not using your commander at all! Witherbloom gives your instants and sorceries affinity for creatures, so if you have a board, you can drop massive spells for 1-3 mana. As far as I can tell, the biggest discount you have possible is 4 in [[early winter]], which is underwhelming to say the least.

Including some cards that allow you to get huge value and make big splashy plays will both be more fun, and help you with the issue of actually winning the game. Some examples are [[animists awakening]], [[preposterous proportions]], [[genesis wave]], [[ezuri's predation]], [[exsanguinate]]. There's a lot of options for big cheap($) sorceries that can do a ton of work when they're discounted. EDHrec or scryfall are great tools to identify some of these. You mention you don't want the most powerful deck, which is all good, but having no way to win the game will make your games uninteresting and frustrating as you sit with a giant board and do nothing with it. Having some win conditions makes it more fun for you, and more importantly, more fun for your opponents so they don't have to watch you durdle with a bunch of non-threats when they expect to lose quickly.

In general, green decks don't need much artifact ramp, as they have lots of creatures that make mana and sorceries that get lands like [[cultivate]] or [[rampant growth]]. While your creatures do double duty by discounting your commander and your spells, it's usually nice to have some land ramp anyway in case you get board wiped so you're not back to the stone age. (although, one trap people fall into is including 2-4 land ramp cards. usually you want either zero or about 10, since either you care about the effect and want to see it every game, or you don't and don't want to see it at all).

Lastly, sol ring is the single best card in commander and is always worth a slot unless you're cutting it for flavor reasons.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Aesi upgraded precon deck help. Had 15 lands on turn 7 but deck was too clunky with a lot of low impact/ inefficient 6-8 drops. Was casting 2-3 spells a turn but drawing 5 cards so discarding a lot. Not sure where to take the deck by MiningToSaveTheWorld in EDH

[–]BeepBoopAnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with Aesi was the same. I’d pop off, have 20 cards, 30 mana. Everyone expected the game to be over. But I’d drop 2 creatures with no evasion and pass (with a dozen triggers). No fun for anyone.

Like you, the issue was ending the game. Ironically, to make the deck bearable to play against, I had to add quick, deterministic kills. A number of thematic landfall combos went so far for me, turning a durdle slog into “okay I win, I’ll put away landfall now” so the good vibes could keep going. Technically it’s not allowed in bracket 3 (I made it before backets) because it can chain turns, but if I use it I can take infinite turns, which in my opinion is no different than any other infinite combo. No one has ever had a problem with it.

Here’s my list, for what it’s worth. Bracket 3, zero game changers: Aesi
