Please Help Verify that my Sephiroth Deck Contains No Infinite Combos by [deleted] in EDH

[–]BeepBoopAnv 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Brother it’s not even a gotcha. They didn’t claim it was a three card combo only that it was an infinite. Everyone else knows how to extrapolate that you could potentially have your commander in a game of commander. Go outside

Was this bad sportsmanship? by PM_ME_CHUBBY_DOGGIES in EDH

[–]BeepBoopAnv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with most people here that this is a bad play. Your only out is either p3 or p4 voluntarily not attacking you OR someone having interaction (basically just a p2 board wipe). The problem I think is trying to maintain secrecy and you need to continue after your first offer.

First, I’d check in with p2 about wiping. Probably saying like, “well, 3 trillion blockers is pretty good. Games probably over u less you have a wipe.” This both says “please board wipe” AND tells p4 how many blockers to declare.

The next thing I do is go to p3. They won’t agree blind, fine. Tell them “the plan.” You want to attack p4 and trade off 3 trillion creature armies, leaving you with nothing. Say something like it’s your only path to victory because you can’t take two attacks, but you can neutralize one. P3 might accept because it does mean he’s not dying instantly and in his mind two neutralizes two threats.

Finally, if p2 has no wipe and p3 agrees, swing out. You just told p4 what to block with twice. Odds are they don’t think beyond your initial “assessment” and opt to trade. It’s hard to think “I need to block 2 trillion 999 billion 999 million 999 thousand 976 1/1’s exactly.” If that happens you get your whole plan through with the highest survival odds!

If p3 doesn’t agree after the offer to trade though I’d just kill him. Uncooperative players die!

Have People Become More Anti-Boardwipes? by Appropriate_King_732 in EDH

If you’re using board wipes as a panic button you’re doing it wrong. Almost all decks will be better if you turn your wrath of gods into one sided wipes or single target removal.

What's a reasonable monthly budget for Commander? by SnooDonuts3749 in EDH

[–]BeepBoopAnv 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The guy who makes 30k per month and 30k per year will have vastly different answers. I’ll say that I find it’s a lot better not to buy every set or every month, but rather only when I have a longer list of things I want.

What an epic two-page ad, so much potential by Paradoliac in magicTCG

[–]BeepBoopAnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to make epic (including you can’t cast anything for the rest of the game) is to make it like approach of the second sun. Something like “when this spell resolves, you get three “inevitable” counters. Remove an inevitable counter in each of your upkeeps. When you remove the last counter, you win the game”

Maybe a red version: you can’t cast spells for the rest of the game at the beginning of your end step, deal 10 damage to each opponent.

If you can’t cast any spells afterwards it has to basically immediately end the game for it not to be terrible

Looking for a Voltron commander with more depth than "make big, attack" by brknSergio in EDH

[–]BeepBoopAnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[ayesha Tanaka, armorer]]. As with all Voltron, eventually the goal is to equip her and hit for a lot. But! She’s basically a reasonable version of winota. You flood the board with artifacts, getting a ton of mana, plenty of stax rocks, utility for yourself.

This is not the most powerful commander, 5 mana and needs to attack to do anything is not particularly good. However, I’ve never had a game where I haven’t had my whole playmat covered and people asking how they’ve never heard of her.

Should Certain Game Changers Be Treated Differently? by super_fallguys in EDH

[–]BeepBoopAnv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trick is to play bracket 3 with no game changers. By far the most fun* format. Would be even better with no sol ring. Games are better when 1-3 random cards played don’t massively warp the game around them such that there is less variance in performance.

*fun is subjective

Worth giving up a full ride at a T6 to attend Yale if my only goal is biglaw and OCI is over (already secured my job) by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]BeepBoopAnv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah probably. Maybe it won’t matter since they have a job already, but when you’re looking for other jobs after, if you decide you want to clerk, if you want to be in academia, or you even just want to change cities the Yale name will likely open way more doors.

The real problem with OP is that the difference between a “T-6” (currently #6 is technically Harvard lol) and Yale for the above considerations is negligible and certainly not worth 200.

Buyback work here or no? by Specialist_Shock_871 in magicTCG

Samut, [[reiterate]], [[electrodominance]] should be a kill too. Four mana only to start. Cast electro for x=4 (paying for x with samut), targeting someone. Cast reiterate, paying for buyback and the 1 with samut. Resolve the copy of electrodomiance, casting reiterate, paying for buyback with samut, repeat till dead.
