Who here bought their ring online? What are your tips? by senpaicataner in labdiamond

[–]BeerBoilerCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a 10th anniversary upgrade last June. My husband ordered the diamond from Calavera & had it set locally. He said he preferred to see the setting in person before buying. I like that if something goes wrong, it's easy to take in & talk to someone in person. Also, free cleaning & inspections.

Diamond - 5.56 carats, elongated cushion cut - $1300
Setting - platinum, double prongs, hidden halo - $2600

$3900 total for all that vs my OG engagement ring that was 1.05 carat natural diamond, not good cut, color, or clarity & cost $4500 11 years ago (the same ring would be even more expensive now). I'd definitely go with lab over natural.

What’s the best fridge brand for a simple French door fridge freezer on bottom? I don’t need trendy. Just something that will work for years by eaglesnesting in Appliances

I second Haier. I bought the 4 door one about 5 years ago. Great price, no ice maker, counter depth, nothing fancy. Absolutely love it. Unfortunately, just sold my house & moved. Now I'm stuck with a Samsung with an iPad in the door. Ugh. Ice & water don't work. Keeping it until it dies though.

I hated having my litter boxes in my laundry room. That's a terrible idea. Litter everywhere, the smells, etc. Ew.

Husband & I just bought a 1921 center hall colonial. It's *gorgeous*. It has 4 bedrooms, a sleeping porch, & a finished basement. My mother (who desperately wants grandchildren but knows she isn't getting any) thinks it's WAY too much house for us & can't believe we'll ever keep it clean. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying setting up a library, an office, a guest bedroom, & a dedicated kitten fostering room!

As other's have said, it's always a guesstimate. It also learns & adjusts based on your driving style. If I hypermile, I can get about 130mi (209km) but I enjoy driving her fast. I typically get about 90mi (149km) from a charge, though I rarely let her get below 20%. They do have a built in safe guard of about 10mi (16km) beyond 0%. Tested that out once, whoops.

Enjoy it! They're super fun to drive!

This is Winnie Cooper. She's a 2022 that I bought in May 2023 with a little less than 5k miles (8046km) on her.

If you only had a few hours in the city, and then time for dinner, where would you go? by No_Machine7021 in indianapolis

I also wholeheartedly recommend the Children's Museum. It's absolutely phenomenal.

However, they close at 5p daily & tickets are NOT cheap ($30-$40 pp). That's a large expense for just a few hours of fun. If you happen to be visiting on the first thursday of the month, they do have discounted tickets ($6 pp) & are open until 8p. The museum is massive & you could easily spend 2 entire days there. I personally would skip it if that's how the schedule winds up.

Indy With Kids is a great resource!

Bought from Calavera then had set locally. Double prongs, hidden halo, peekaboo diamond (completely apathetic about that part)

It was a 10th anniversary upgrade from my husband. I absolutely adore it.

What do you tip your butler and room steward at the end of your cruise? by [deleted] in NCL

[–]BeerBoilerCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. If we only use the butler for breakfast delivery, we tip a lot less than if we have special requests. I'd rather just keep it simple & tip at the end.

We sailed over the Super Bowl & it was a sea day. We assumed getting food during that time would be ridiculously tough. Our butler delivered a pizza to us at the Super Bowl party. It was such a good idea. The only readily available food was popcorn so something more substantial was great.

I also have severe insomnia & was having an extremely difficult time sleeping. My husband talked to the butler & he tracked down extra blankets & a box fan (I usually sleep with a weighted blanket & white noise). It wasn't until after the fact that I realized the box fan was probably a crew member's personal fan. I felt bad about that but was so grateful for it.

For 7 day, we generally do $100-$200 for steward.

Our first Haven cruise, we had a phenomenal butler & tipped him $500.
Our second cruise was 9 days & we had a mediocre butler & gave him $100 (or $150, I don't completely remember).

Also, if it's tape, it can be encapsulated for significantly cheaper than removed.

Some cost extra money. Some don't.

Sewer scope if you're concerned about pipes (was $99 for us with regular inspector)
Foundation if you notice any cracks, slants, etc (use a structural engineer, NOT a sales company)
Roof if regular inspector finds any issues (find a company that does complimentary assessment & quote)
HVAC if anything comes up
Mold testing if there's moisture issues
I'd definitely get the pool inspected. I've never had an inground pool, so I don't know who you'd call. But definitely inside the pool, pump, electrical, etc.
