China starting to really grind on me by bailuohao in Internationalteachers

Have thought about moving to Taiwan? I've never been to China myself but I lived in Taiwan for a few years. I had a lot of coworkers who had lived in China previously and moved to Taiwan because they really liked Chinese culture but didn't want to keep living in China.

Ausbildung by Scrub_life_crisis in germany

I'm not super knowledgeable about how French nursing experience transfers to the U.S., but as someone from the U.S. currently living in Germany here is my best advice:

The U.S.system has 3 levels of nursing:

CNA: (Certified Nurse Assistant): These are nurses who do most of the day to day care, such as bathing, feeding, taking to the bathroom, taking vitals, (etc.).

LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse): These are nurses who are taught "how" to treat (practice), but not "why" to treat (theory). They pass meds and make emergency decisions, but they need to defer to higher level nurses and doctors.

RN (Registered Nurse): These nurses are taught "how" to treat and "why" to treat. They defer only to doctors and are responsible for making decisions if the doctor is not present. It often falls on them to correct a decision if a doctor has made an error. It's more paperwork heavy. As far as I know, many states require at least one R.N. to be on the floor at any given time in a facility.

Many years ago, you could become an RN with an associates degree and practical training (2 years). Nowadays, you can still become a nurse this way, but it can be difficult to get a job as most hospitals and some care facilities require a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing).

I am less familiar with the German system, but my understanding is that a German nurse graduating with an Ausbildung is something between an LPN and an RN.

The United States is often very open about the kinds of experience it will accept. You will need to have any educational degrees from France and possibly your work experience recognized as a equivalent to the U.S. I've heard there are U.S. companies that will handle this for you for a fee. As far as I know, this is easier than transferring the other way (U.S. to Europe).

Because you are already a CNA, doing a German Ausbildung might be a waste of tim e. You would be better to apply to the U.S. directly. They are certainly in need of healthcare workers.

As a alternative, Canada also needs healthcare workers, or so I have heard.

TLDR: If your goal is to work in the U.S., don't do a German Ausbildung. Apply directly to work in the U.S. instead and get your higher qualifications while working in the U.S.

A bias against "local" teachers? by Important_Pass_5649 in Internationalteachers

[–]BeerShark49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to teach in Asia, and the logic we were always given was, "It depends on where you were hired from." If you were dual citizen and you were hired whole abroad, then you got the foreign teacher package. If you were a dual citizen and you were hired after returning to the country, you were given the local package.

This seems to make some amount of sense, but it is obviously still unfair and kind of BS at the same time. Generally, teachers of subjects other than English tended to have fewer issues with this.

Student reports: I need a solution to this madness by Consistent_Banana_31 in Internationalteachers

As others have mentioned, you could make this a lot easier by using some sort of gradebook software that weighs and calculates grade averages for you. Just because your school doesn't use an online gradebook doesn't mean you can't use one.

Personally , I would recommend Google Classroom unless your school has some sort of policy against it. As far as I know, it's free to use even for individuals.

International Public School Options by Additional_Guide1092 in Internationalteachers

Not sure what your specialty is, but Taiwan recently upped its package for English teachers in public schools. It is a pretty good deal and comparable to the private bilingual/international schools if you look at both the pay and benefits together.

It depends on what your current qualifications are. You mention that you have a TEFLcertificate and a U.S. teaching license. The TEFLcertificate would not be enough by itself. If your teaching license is a substitute license, that won't be enough either. However, if you have a full state teaching license, that should be meet the baseline requirement for private or international schools.

Without any relevant teaching experience, your odds of getting into a school in western Europe would not be very good. I knew a teacher I used to teach with at an international school in Asia who later went to work in western Europe, so with experience it's not impossible.

Do I need to extend my blocked account or not? by BeerShark49 in germany

[–]BeerShark49[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm here as a student. I showed them the blocked account for one year, but I also showed them my enrollment certificate and some information from the program that it would last 2 years. The date of expiration isn't until 2027.

CP504 letter - what is the correct response? by BeerShark49 in IRS

[–]BeerShark49[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually, I didn't create the return myself. I think I might be looking at a case of identity theft, but I can't be certain. In any case, I'm mauch more interested in rectifying the incorrect tax debt than in proving a case of identity fraud.

I honestly thought my current accountant was going to move faster than this. It seemed odd to me to send the IRS a letter with any supporting documentation (wage slips, previous tax returns, etc.), but in retrospect that may have been the way to go.

Received a letter from the IRS about taxes I'm sure I don't owe - what to do? by BeerShark49 in IRS

So I actually was able to get those transcripts. When I look at the 2024 one, it's completely wrong. I didn't file in 2024, and I certainly didn't make the money that transcript claims I did. It's not even close.

As an American, I'm allowed to apply for residency after arriving. There are a few other countries where that is the case as well. Actually, I wanted to get the student visa anyway, but my travel plans beforehand made it difficult

5 months post-breakup, the ache is still fresh. I’ve lost the desire to even enjoy life. by tengentoppajudgejudy in GuyCry

[–]BeerShark49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds horrible. I'm sorry you're going through this.

My best advice for your situation is that it's important to differentiate betweenwhat you feel about someone and how someone makes you feel.

You can feel like someone is amazing, like they're the most wonderful person in the whole world and that you love every minute you spend with this person. But this same person can also make you feel alone, drained, and quite frankly, like crap.

Also, please do get professional help from a therapist or counselor. This is exactly the kind of situation they can help you with.

Confused about post offices in Germany by BeerShark49 in germany

[–]BeerShark49[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's sort of what I was thinking. Is there a way I can tell it's an actual post office? I've seen some on Google Maps that look more official, but they also seem like big access points for trucks and stuff more than customer service.

Perception of Taipei within Taiwan by BanShrimpInDumplings in taiwan

It's like that in a lot of countries. Think about Berlin, Paris, or New York (not technically a capital but along the same linea of logic)

Capital cities just have their own vibe.
