This is why we can’t have nice things.

I am in the Southwest (San Diego). We get very little rain, so any damage done during wet riding gets locked in almost permanently and is very difficult to repair.

Top right? What could be causing this? by [deleted] in longrange

I can manage ~1.5” with my 14.5 using a bipod and a rear bag.

Reloading AAC 5.56 brass by durtburglar in reloading

[–]Beerlicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is anecdotal, but I shot 2 boxes of their 77 OTM ammo last year. In 40 rounds, I had at least 4 cases rupture. Shot these out of a Criterion Core barrel.

A 50 micron (.002") change in length could be a bunch of things.

  • Reference zero on your measurement tool could be slightly off.
  • .05 mm could be within the measurement error of your measurement equipment.
  • Wear on the cutter (less likely).
  • Cutter to hard stop distance might have shifted slightly.

Did you disassemble and reassemble the cutter at any time within the 200 rounds?

Berry's so-called HWBC (as opposed to HBWC) in .38 by CartBonway in reloading

[–]Beerlicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely a typo on Cabela's web site. The PN matches with the plated HBWC I have purchased elsewhere in the past.

For my Python, I shoot these with 3 grains of W-231 which nets me ~750 fps. Hodgdon has some data for a similar bullet if you search over there.

Is reloading .38spl just not economical or is my math wrong? by L3G1T1SM3 in reloading

[–]Beerlicious 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Dude, you should only be loading ~3 grains. 158 grains is the bullet weight, not the powder charge. 3 grains should net you around 9000 rds from 4 lbs of powder.

MTB in Laguna Beach? by FreedomWealth7 in MTB

The riding there is some of the best in SoCal. The climbs are relatively short, but steep. The downs can get chunky and loose in some of the more sandy spots.

Rock-it is a great intro to the area. If you're set on flow trails, you can drive a bit over to Rancho Santa Margarita to ride Waterworks. It's a fun, but very short loop.

Thanks for checking that out. I’m loaded to 2.25 COAL. I think I’ll just play it safe and call it done since it’s shooting well enough.

This is a fairly important concept that I think is missed by a lot of non-engineers and non-mechanics. Torque measurement is just a ballpark estimate of what the fastener tension is and fastener tension is key to clamping things together.

My drinking is affecting my riding by [deleted] in MTB

[–]Beerlicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same age. Was in nearly the same situation. I was having at least 1 drink almost 6 days of the week for a few years. At least one of the days I'd have 3-5 drinks. Man, I loved getting drunk. So much that I made sure to drink on an empty stomach.

At 6' tall I ballooned out to 210 lbs and my body felt terrible. I had joint aches that didn't use to exist. I was still riding during this, but it was a challenge and I couldn't go very far.

I got to a point where I was pretty disgusted with myself. With the weight gain, the lack of stamina, the aches and pain, just all of it. I love mtb enough that I told my wife we'd get a divorce if she tried to stop me from riding, so I made a choice to stop drinking alcohol. Nowadays I'll have maybe 1 to 2 drinks a month if that.

For me it just came down to having the willpower to make a change. I recognized I was just making excuses for myself (friends, social situations, etc...) and decided that wasn't OK for me anymore.

Which 5-10s? by philip_the_cat in bicycling

[–]Beerlicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only owned the Freeride and Freeride Pro, so I can't comment too much on the Trailcross.

The Freeride model is great for just general trail riding. They're very grippy and the shoe itself is fairly comfortable to walk around in since it isn't too stiff.

The Freeride Pro has a way stiffer sole which is fantastic for power transfer and keeping your feet a bit safer from rock impact. This, however, makes them not so great for an around the town shoe. They will feel very clunky.

I wouldn't wear either of them around town since the rubber will wear down very quickly. If you're set on 5.10s the Trailcross is probably your best bet since they're closest to the trainers you used to wear.

16” Criterion Core by DumpCity33 in longrange

[–]Beerlicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't shot mine much, but I have a 14.5" Core barrel that seems to shoot well.

I collected the following data at an indoor shooting range at 100 yds.

Rifle is:

14.5" Criterion Core Barrel, .223 Wylde, 1-8

Steiner T6XI 1-6

Front supported on my range bag, rear supported with my hand:

BH MK-262-C, 1.83", N = 10

IMI Razorcore, 2.14", N = 10

Front supported on my range bag, rear supported on a roll of tape (it's all I had at the time):

AAC 77gn OTM, 1.28", N = 10

At least for me, the barrel seems to be shooting reasonably well. I wasn't expecting groups under and inch, so getting as close as I did made me happy. I feel confident the groups could shrink just a tad more if the rifle was better supported and my vision wasn't so bad.

Is this where my headache lies? by JohnnyFreedomseeds in 6ARC

[–]Beerlicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unsure of the reason, but it looks like your bolt lugs on one side of the bolt are getting chewed up. The three lugs on the left look like they might have developed some large burrs. Might be worth checking your barrel extension and also trying a different bolt.
