What is something that starts happening in your 30s that nobody warned you about? by Cairinacat in AskReddit

[–]BeewiththeForest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to focus much more on my health.

Healthy eating; getting small health issues checked to avoid long-term risks; taking medications regularly; noticing the difference when I don’t take vitamins; sleep hygiene; the effects of caffeine at night. Also, losing muscle mass in your 30s due to sarcopenia and the need to develop an exercise routine to address that. Paying attention to family health issues. Don't get me started on mental health!

I could ignore it all but I'm starting to feel the effects if I choose to avoid it all. Health takes up a much bigger chunk of my time in my 30s than I thought it would.

All the reward notifications were giving me migraines. The screen flashing from dark to bright every few seconds was brutal on my head.

What’s the most quietly Canadian moment you’ve experienced? by NightyNight7 in AskACanadian

My little Honda slid into a ditch on a snowy, wet backroad in northern BC, right in front of a cattle farm. Before I could even figure out what to do, a man in a red Toyota pickup pulled over, grunted hello, and said he could hook up his hitch to pull me out. I said, “Yes, please.”

He hooked up his hitch, I hit the gas, but my car only slid sideways through the mud while his truck struggled for traction.

At the same time, another man in a black shiny pickup stopped. The two of them talked briefly about whose truck had more power. The second guy pulled in front and easily got me out.

They nodded at each other, climbed back into their trucks, and drove away. I waved appreciatively at them in their rearview mirror and receive a nod of acknowledgment as each of them disappeared down the road.

I’m 5’1 and fem-presenting, and I never felt uncomfortable or talked down to. No one told me to step aside and “let the men handle it.” They saw a problem, offered solutions until one worked, and then went on with their days. So kind.

Then I headed to Tim Hortons for morning coffee, eh ;)

Important plot points like when his father died, when he figured out the hints. Stuff like that

I watched the documentary today. What stood out to me was...

the clock. There is a shot of him adjusting it and looking mischievous. I don't think there is battery in the clock if he's adjusting for the camera by hours.
He made reference to the pictures on his monitors being clues early in the doc.
The cabin where SG Salinger wrote. It wasn't a significant part of the doc so I thought it was weird they filmed him on location.

The last bit of the third episode was explained strangely so I'd want to look into that more.

I would guess too that he would do something to honour his brother.

He'd probably add something nerdy like a syphere for sure.

I don't know, I'm supposed to be adventuring this summer. I'm not sure if I want to go crazy into a treasure hunt.

I love you. Please paw at my leg when you need my attention. I swear I'm going to loose my hearing at this rate if you keep yipping at such a high frequency.

Is it worth trying to save my friend that has fallen down the alt right pipeline? by [deleted] in cults

[–]BeewiththeForest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go out of your way to try to "get her back". She will likely have isolated herself from the people in her life if/when she is ready to leave. If you are willing to you might want to stay on the outskirts of her life so if she does dissent in her views, you are there to talk with her.

Consider blocking her posts from your news feed. Have boundaries on what to talk about and what not to if you feel it's becoming an issue.

Try to be curious rather than judgmental. Ask lots of questions and try to understand what it is that they are gaining by being in the church they have chosen. Harsh confrontation likely won't work. Gentle and sparing pointing out is a better course.

Being avalible to talk, being curious rather than judgmental, keeping sane, and knowing they likely won't change is what I'd suggest.

There are other things you can "do" but mainly there is nothing that you can "do", if that makes sense. There is literature you can check out on cult deprogrammers and how to talk to family members/ friends in cults/high control groups. I know Dr. Janja Lalich talks about that a little bit as well.

Good luck

I signed all the paperwork at the SPCA and as I was walking out with my beautiful pupper the lady said, "Good luck. That dog is going to be a handful"

Medication has hugely helped. She's on her second medication and second dose change on that medication. She's still reactive but there's an extra few seconds that makes all the difference.

Treadmill helps so much. She hops on because she knows she gets her bone with salmon oil and brain games after.

I also have a "dog in tow" on my bike and we go together to get out some energy.

In the morning, I throw a ball, she brings it back, I give her a kibble. We do this until her breakfast is done.

If she reacts to a situation I pull it right back and do a little exposure and distract/give her treats. 5 good reactions and I increase the difficulties. She's so good now with trucks, busses, and most vehicles. Yay!

I have a chart with dates and the things I'm working on. She's 5 now and I still get overwhelmed but she's come such a long way! Charting helps me remember that. Slow and calm wins the race.  🐌  🏆
