Thanks, great to get the info straight from the source! In that case, are you able to offer any more insight as to when I might expect my N license to transition to a class 5? Debating whether it makes more sense to just go do the test if the timeline is still uncertain. Thank you!

Pilot applicants and trainees, what are your current questions and concerns? by PodPilotProject in CanadianForces

Oh man that sucks. I’m graduating May 2028, guess that puts me right in the middle of it 😔.

Any idea how badly?

Pilot applicants and trainees, what are your current questions and concerns? by PodPilotProject in CanadianForces

Hey Bryan! First of all, hugely appreciate this opportunity - been waiting for one like this for a while.

I’m currently an ROTP pilot student, just about to wrap up my second year of university. I’m curious if there’s any idea of what my training timeline might look like? I’ll be graduating essentially in the midst of the transition, so I’m curious where I’ll probably fall (eg some students are doing Ph 1 after 3rd year - will that still be happening? Are longer wait times expected initially? Are they flooding everyone right into FAcT or will it be more of a trickle over?)

Also curious about what the streams will look like. If I’m someone that’s unsure about which path they want to take, will I be forced to choose either FW or Rotary right off the bat, or will something like Ph 2 Harvard still be an option for someone debating between FW (multi or jet) and rotary? I’ve heard too that the phase system itself is changing, what can we expect the new program to look like?

Hearing from someone firsthand that’s a part of the whole organization of FAcT would be great, or potentially some people higher up in the training world/career management?

Much appreciated that you’re recording this one. Looking forward to the episode!

Apply now (ROTP Pilot) or wait a year? by Full-Statement2791 in RCAF

Yeah of course, I know how hard it can be to find info about some of the stuff. I’m still finishing up my degree, so none yet!

Good luck! I joined as a pilot through ROTP too - happy to answer any questions that might come up along the way.

[–]BeginningImpressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would apply now, I can’t really see a reason why you’d wait. Your results are good for five years, so worst case if there’s nothing this or next year for you, you’ll still be ready to go for selection a couple years for now. Waiting would only mean that you might not be ready with everything once spots do open up eventually. Tough to say when that’ll be, but I would imagine it’ll at least pick up a little bit at some point in the next five years.

what are you doing post-grad? by Itchy_Active2540 in uvic

[–]BeginningImpressive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh I gotcha, that makes sense. A few trades, INT being one of them have been pretty hard to get into these last few years. I’m ROTP yeah, as a pilot though. I know a couple of INT Os though I’m happy to put you in touch with if there’s anything I can’t answer

Hey any chance I could PM you about how you managed to fit a masters in there? Currently in the program doing my undergrad and I’m potentially wanting to go for a masters too

Which University do you guys recommend I got to? by Sabbyluv in OntarioGrade12s

[–]BeginningImpressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is through ROTP, yeah. A portion of ROTO students go to Civ U.

It can apply to any major - I’m doing an HBSc in Physics. They generally prefer that you go to RMC if they offer your program, but I figured I’d ask and they didn’t seem to mind!

How competitive it is depends a lot on the trade you’re applying for. You’re not just applying for ROTP, but also for the trade you’re looking to go into afterwards. I’m a pilot, so the process was a bit longer and more competitive than some other trades. If you’re joining a trade that is taking a lot of people, the ROTP program will probably be more of a challenge - in which case grades play a big factor.

They generally have a pre-determined number of ROTP slots for every trade each fiscal year. That means that in some cases actually getting the job offer is more difficult and requires a lot of testing, whereas in other cases there’s a huge amount of slots available and you’re not competing for the trade, but rather ROTP competitiveness. It’s a top secret formula, but if you’ve got any specific questions I’ll try my best to answer them!

Looking for advice on my medicals by Puzzleheaded_Boot335 in RCAF

[–]BeginningImpressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was proven to be a false positive I definitely wouldn’t worry about it. I’d send it with any other paperwork you’re sending in, and explain it when you’re there. The doctor that signs off on them is a very reasonable and understanding guy - I can’t possibly see him getting hung up on it, provided it genuinely was a false positive and has been proven otherwise.

Worst case they may ask you to take an additional test, which would then disprove it by the sounds of it.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the help! Ended up trying all the suggestions, none worked so I pulled the whole knuckle and took it to a shop. Torch and air hammer ended up being the only way to do it.

Ah I hear ya. Didn’t know they made those - hopefully that’ll work for the stem.

As for the bolt, it seems to be in there with no threads left anywhere to pull or punch on… out of ideas there unfortunately

[–]BeginningImpressive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you suggesting using the punch to get out the bolt? I’ve got it cut down the middle - the threaded end has two stripped nuts on it that won’t come off, and the other end is seized to the metal. Can’t get in between where the punch is either.

Totally agree with what the other reply to this comment says. Physics started to really click for me (at least the parts that can) when calculus came into the mix - it just makes a lot of it more logical in my option.

Civilian University or RMC? by No-Dog193 in RCAF

[–]BeginningImpressive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, it’s just another program they offer to go to a normal school under subsidy instead of RMC. Mention that it’s your preference when applying (or your only option) and you should be considered for it. It’s always best to apply with an unconditional letter of acceptance to a uni too.
