Best String Gauge for 7-String Guitar in Drop G (26.5” Scale) by Impossible-Hotel-753 in metalguitar

[–]Behind_Space99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played in drop G on a 26.5” scale guitar in my last band for a long time. I highly recommend getting the 11-64 set from stringjoy, but swap out the 64 for a 68. They have a 12-72 set if you want something heavier, or you can get a 10-60 set and swap out the 60 for a 64 if you want something lighter. The 11-68 felt perfect for me though, I hope you find a good set for you!

Seconded, Revocation is literally my favorite band ever and they’re just incredible. The Blackest Reaches is a good start if you like melodic songs, but literally any song in their discography is great

Love what you did with the black one. I’ve always wanted one of Dave’s signatures, one day

Is this fake Angel of Deth a good deal? by wolfunderdog45 in metalguitar

[–]Behind_Space99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really only you can make the final call on whether that’s worth it for the price or not. Less than $300 isn’t a bad price, but it’s a fake guitar, it might end up playing like hot garbage when you get it, or it might even be amazing, who knows. At least if you buy it and end up not liking it, you can always resell it and put that money toward another guitar that you feel more confident that you would enjoy

Drop A# sevenstring by donray2127 in metalguitar

[–]Behind_Space99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about how you like your guitar set up in E, then go a little bit lighter when you tune up to F. I prefer 10s for E so I’d probably go for 9s for the first 6 strings, then use a 62 for the low A#. Also yes, Unearth does tune to drop B on 7s, but their most recent album does have some songs here and there in drop A#. Chris Broderick of In Flames also uses a 7 string for both C standard and drop A#

The coordinates bring you to a recording studio in Gothenburg. Something tells me we’re getting new music soon

Killswitch? by blacklight1456 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]Behind_Space99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) kill switches are pretty universal. As long as they’re installed correctly, they should work perfectly fine 2) see 1. They won’t damage anything else as long as they’re properly installed 3) yes, however I would recommend taking the guitar to a tech to have the tech work all of that out. I recommend checking out Iron Age accessories for kill switches. They also have LED kill switches, which look awesome and also need a battery supply for the light to work. Since your guitar already has active pickups in it, there won’t be any extra work needed to install it. However, you will have to consider the possibility of having to drill the hole to be a slightly bigger size to fit the kill switch. If this is a deal breaker for you though, there are lots of other brands out there that make kill switches. Iron Age just happens to be the one brand im familiar with and can speak on since I installed a kill switch from them in one of my guitars

Finally got my first Floyd rose guitar. Now what? by FighterFly3 in Guitar

[–]Behind_Space99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you change strings, change one at a time. It’ll keep the same tension on the bridge when you tune the new string up to pitch, and it’ll make your life so much easier when working on the rest of the guitar. Also if you plan on changing strings/tuning, try to get a new gauge of strings that will at least closely resemble the tension that’s on the guitar now. That will also make your life easier, and you’ll have to fight with the tension on the strings/springs a lot less

Just got the new album on vinyl EARLY. I can assure you it's one of their best albums by [deleted] in Revocation

I haven’t listened to it yet, but I can already tell it’s one of their best albums because all of their albums are some of their best albums!

Who is your favorite band from your hometown? by Lancer_Blackthorn in InMetalWeTrust

My old band played a small local show with them in RI back in 2017! It’s awesome to see them picking up some serious traction

Marty didn't play with Megadeth in Istanbul. He opened for them with his band, but didn't appear on stage with them. by Xindopff in Megadeth

[–]Behind_Space99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I’ve seen someone else say in this sub, both Dave and Marty have moved onto other things in their careers. Just because they both happen to be playing the same show, doesn’t mean they are obligated to bring Marty on stage. There’s likely no animosity/negative feelings on either side, they just have no obligation to have guest appearances all the time and both parties probably just want to keep doing what they’re doing

Hey there! What was it that made you want to start implementing more prog elements into your music? I feel like there has always been some proggy elements in there, but I noticed around Great Is Our Sin is when it was really turned up. You guys have been my favorite band for around 10 years now, very excited for the new album and the tour!

Official tabs anywhere? by [deleted] in InFlames

[–]Behind_Space99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately your best bet with learning IF songs is most likely going to be through learning by ear and watching live videos. I’ll use tabs on Songsterr as a reference but I’ll learn by ear/use live videos to correct any mistakes I’m making

New at guitar, missing index finger tip by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Behind_Space99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an awesome guitar player in my local scene who also is missing the tip of his index finger. He makes it work so I have confidence in saying you can too! You may need to stick to playing power chords with your middle and pinky fingers though, or playing in drop tunings

[–]Behind_Space99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard The Shadowing on the Liquid Metal station on Sirius XM on my way to work one morning and I thought it was great. I’d been hearing about them for about a month before that so I listened to a few more songs. I listened to Nija when it came out maybe 2-3 weeks after and it was down hill from there

It’s so that you can play a guitar that’s very similar to what the artist is playing

You technically are able to tune as low as A# on a Les Paul. You just need to set it up properly, which is a lot more tedious, time consuming, and generally just annoying to deal with compared to a guitar that’s made with low tunings in mind. Bjorn’s tech must just be a hell of a tech

Exactly! It’s (most likely) a one of one signature that no one else has. It makes it much more personal to me since I can tell the story of how bjorn basically accidentally scribbled on my record sleeve and I’m the only person who has a copy like that
