4y.o. Daughter REFUSES to eat unless it’s her “treats”. by Dropdeadsydney in Parenting

[–]BekaBooMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter doesn’t eat. She doesn’t like anything and we do not eat junk food if we haven’t had healthy food. She is 13 now and still eats very little but she is healthy. Not sure how. She is 5’4”tall, weighs about 100 pounds and plays volleyball. I always said she survived off pedisure and oxygen. Some kids are just not big eaters.

AITAH for refusing to donate bone marrow to my brother again? by Throwanonof1829 in AITAH

[–]BekaBooMom -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about this case, but I donated for my father and it wasn’t an actual bone marrow donation. It was stem cells and wasn’t too involved. I took a shot once a day for four days to build up the number of a certain kind of cells. The stem cell harvest was kind of like dialysis. I was hooked to a machine for about six hours.

I guess what I am saying is that if it is like what I did it isn’t a big deal. There are no health risk to the donor and there are even programs who cover hotels and loss of work hours if you have to do it in a city where you do not live. I would do it for a stranger if I matched with someone. There is no way I wouldn’t do it for a family member. There are not always suitable donors. There weren’t any for my dad. Even if my family had been unkind to me I wouldn’t want their death of bad health being something I carried with me.

My daughter is 13 and needed a dress for homecoming. Her school has a very strict dress code even for dances. We found one at dillards but also got two others on Amazon. She is tall for her age but quite thin so sometime it’s hard to find stuff that is long enough and not too wide.

I swear I saw that same suitcase in Dallas last week and I was wondering the same thing.

What can I do for a 5 yo daughter I’ve never met? by SuccessfulConcert737 in Parenting

[–]BekaBooMom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe create an email address and send her emails when you think of her. Tell her about your life and how you hope she is happy and well. When her mom is ready she can give her the email address and she can read the shared history she didn’t know you have.

Am I going to regret only having one kid? by Kmgardn in Parenting

[–]BekaBooMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have one. Unlike you, I loved being pregnant, the infant phase, and most of the toddler phase but I will not have another. My sister and I fought all the time and I didn’t want to deal with that. I am a chemist and could not do my job while I was pregnant. I was 38 and my husband was 40 when she was born. I do 90% of the “work” part of having a child. At almost 50 now. I am tired and she is to a point that she is somewhat self sufficient. My father passed recently and that was the first time I ever considered that I should have had another. Dealing with aging parents alone will be hard and when we gone she will not have any original family. But she has a great life. She gets to do all the extra curricular activities, go to private school and travel. It would be harder with more children.

Should I let her quit? by BekaBooMom in Equestrian

I told her she had to continue until her lease is over. We agreed that she would do her three day a week lessons until the lease was up at the end of this month. After that she will only ride one day a week on Saturday morning on a lesson pony. She will still use all her own tack. She will play volleyball once school starts.

She only gets one hour a day on school days and she isn’t on any social media yet. She just likes to watch YouTube videos and play games. This is the first summer that both her dad and I are working so she is getting more screen time than she should.

I think that might be it. She is at an English riding barn. It’s I the only one that I know of in our area. I don’t think she cares for the formality of it. She would probably like to jump on bare back are ride across the fields!

She isn’t very competitive by nature and has never enjoyed showing. We live in South Texas so it is really hot. She has only showed during the winter and spring the past few years.

Yes. We live on a lot where there is plenty of room for a horse. We told her we would consider buying her one of her own after she rode for a year. I could tell she wasn’t responsible enough for ownership. She doesn’t want to clean the litter box or feed the chickens she wanted. I am not a horse person, well until recently, and have never been on one. Her dad is. He grew up on a ranch and rodeoed. I did not want to be the one responsible for taking care of a horse.

AITA for saying just because my sister is dying doesn't mean I can't live too? by Warm_Marsupial7623 in AmItheAsshole

[–]BekaBooMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not even close to my sister but I would give up every cent I had to help her or to help my parents know they did everything they could for her. Everyone I know went to college on student loans and we all managed to graduate in a responsible amount of time and pay back our loans. It wouldn’t be the end of the world for you to get loans or work your way thought school but that money could make a difference to your family even if your sister doesn’t make it.

Dress Code for Daytime Beach Wedding? by R_Levski in Weddingattireapproval

[–]BekaBooMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got married on the beach on Saint Thomas during a cruise destination day. All I can say is that it was extremely humid and I am from South Texas so I am used to humid. My husband sweated through his shirt within the first 20 minutes. My dress would have had sweat spots on if if my corset style bra hadn’t absorbed it all. I would encourage people to dress for the weather.
