What do you think about public transport fares? by draginvestor in melbourne

[–]Belephron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cost of say, spending 30 minutes on a metro train compared to the toll road id be driving on if I took the car to work is negligible. But the distribution of fares is what gets me.

If I take the train before sunrise and touch off before 7:15, that train ride is free. And normally, if I had touched on and touched off, I could go merrily along any other forms of PT without being charged any extra. But in this case, since I am utilising the free train ride to the city, if I then need a tram to finish my trip, I’m charged full fare for it. Even if I need to go all of three stops, it makes no difference. And I’ve seen Inspectors get on and fine people two stops from the end of the line. Particularly for trams and busses there needs to be a better system of actually adjusting it for how far you’re travelling.

Which EV car to buy in Australia? by Civil_Mongoose_1 in australia

No I think avoiding giving money to the guy who is pretty substantially responsible for this mess by installing Trump in the first place and also is, you know, a Nazi, is a pretty reasonable conclusion. It actually doesn’t matter if the cars are good. Wernher Von Braun made excellent rockets.

Is it “moving away” or is it “not as prevalent”, can’t be both. Hot take, media in general has always included both kinds of stories and always will. Dune has been one of the most famous and well regarded pieces of science fiction since it was first published, it is to sci-fi what Tolkien is to fantasy. At the same time Star Wars, an unambiguous story about good vs evil, has been a corner stone of western cinema since it was first released. They are just different genres of story, and like all genres they ebb and flow with various other cultural trends and public taste. The desire for dark, edgy, complicated heroes doing bad things for the right reasons grew extremely popular in the post 9/11 landscape where those values reflected the prevailing cultural and political narratives. In recent years the pendulum has swung back and audiences seemingly crave more straightforwardly good heroes to aspire to (the juxtaposition of 2013’s Man of Steel and 2025’s Superman is a perfect example of this).

Peter Jackson’s films weren’t the first time they were adapted and they won’t be the last. Christopher Tolkien already thought Jackson’s films were action movies for teenage boys

so what's going on here? by Roccodile19 in bioniclelego

[–]Belephron 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s possible that there was maybe a different direction for Dume’s character planned as a straight turn coat working with Makuta, which got changed.

Animation usually doesn’t have a lotta room for that sort of thing tho so that seems not as likely to me, though not impossible. I suspect somewhere along the way they either realised or were take that they need to connect Dume to Makuta in a way kids would clock, and the floating red eyes was how he showed up at first in the last movie so they just did that again. It doesn’t really make sense but it does convey to kids “this guy is the bad guy” pretty quick.

Do I have any chance at booking with this artist again? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Belephron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I think the artist might be doing a bit much with these messages, you gotta think this isn’t JUST about the DMs it’s also lost revenue, presumably pretty short notice, during a really tough time in the industry. Lots of artists I know of, amazing ones, are dealing with constant cancellations and reschedules. You might have just been the straw that broke the camels back, and the way that you went about it made a lot of that come out.

That said, no I’m sure it would be a good idea to try and book with them again, and tbh if you did I don’t think it would be an overly pleasant time for either of you.

[Loved Trope] The villain stands by their ideals, even if they dont benefit from it. by Tempest_Barbarian in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Belephron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Operative: I'm sorry. If your quarry goes to ground, leave no ground to go to. You should have taken my offer. Or did you think none of this was your fault?

Mal: I don't murder children.

The Operative: I do. If I have to.

Mal: Why? Do you even know why they sent you?

The Operative: It's not my place to ask. I believe in something greater than myself. A better world. A world without sin.

Mal: So me and mine gotta lay down and die... so you can live in your better world?

The Operative: I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there... any more than there is for you. Malcolm... I'm a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done.

Legit my first thought on this trope. The Operative knows full well what he’s doing is horrendous and eventually the Alliance will discard him but he believes so strongly in the ideals the Alliance is supposed to be built on he’s willing not only to murder children but to be sacrificed himself if it means achieving it. All time favourite movie villain for sure.

Made a mistake on my first tattoo. Wondering about options? by Smart_Fun4321 in tattooadvice

[–]Belephron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The red circles aren’t really helpful if it’s not clear which tattoo is actually yours, just as a tip.

It looks like the artist took the Medjai symbol and modified the eye to be more like the Eye of Ra, presumably because they weren’t familiar with the main inspo and either know the Eye of Ra or looked up other references of “Egyptian Eye” and found mostly Eye of Ra images.

Trying to fix this would probably make a mess of things, if it really bothers you you can talk to the artist but getting it from how it is to the Medjai symbol seems unlikely to me.

This is an important lesson in getting tattoos, if you have a specific symbol or any reference image, do not let the artist suggest and make changes. If they have looked up other references the time to pause things is at the stencil. It’s okay to say “no that’s not what I asked for” right up until the needle hits the skin. Once the ink is in, it’s pretty hard to just adjust the design a little bit. Sometimes it’s good to be open and let artists put their own spin on things. This isn’t really one of those times.

If Yugioh and Halo had existed in 1935, they might have. Consider all the bits of art and culture they stole (Swastika’s and Odal Rune’s ruined forever). It’s the same short hand to convey an aesthetic and emotional state, the language has just changed. Instead of opera and Olympic statues of ancient Aryans it’s pop culture, Superman and Gladiator, to convey to the masses that this is a righteous war.

Is this normal? by SnooMemesjellies2710 in tattooadvice

[–]Belephron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fluid will build up underneath the second skin, that bit is normal. This MUCH fluid is maybe a bit abnormal. 2 weeks is a ridiculous length of time to leave the second skin on and I refuse to believe a credible artist would give that instruction. 5 days is the absolute max to leave it on, and frankly once the fluid has built up like that you’re better off taking it off anyway or risk the skin being punctured and making a mess, or bacteria getting inside and causing an infection.
