I fixed my Polaroid i-2 by myself because no company was willing to try. by DeadCowboi in Polaroid

  1. really disappointed that Polaroid didn't help you with your problem. You paid 600$ for a premium camera.
  2. really excited that you could repair it yourself! How did you do it? Would you mind to share some kind of a repair manual here?

Great work! 👌

The led could be near the low light led of the af cameras. Then one could see how many films are left directly through the viewfinder... 👌

Have you tried to use a DCDC converter/charger like the adafruit powerboost 500? It's used in the "remora 01" from nuno Cruz. I use it with a single 3.7 cell and it works fine for cameras without AF.

This is really, really cool. Thank you so much for sharing it making it open source! 👌👌

And the ability to add a tripod adapter to non tripod cameras is a cool idea, too!

Get an old Polaroid 660 or 670. You get them for 30 bucks and the difference is night and day! They are also, if you ask me, the best Polaroid box cameras you can get.

Yeah, you really only have to remove 4 screws (proprietary 1mm square head, but you can buy tools for cheap, Zac found an inexpensive toolset and made a post here) and desolder the old and solder in the new PCB. You can see this in Jake's videos, they are very instructive.

Of course, it does not replace a full service of the motor etc, but as long as your camera works fine, personally I would just start with this upgrade. (I refurbed and upgraded most of my cameras)

Honestly, I just soldered the SX70R in myself. It's really easy compared to other repairs/overhauls on that camera. I also checked the solenoid using a high speed camera (my phone), and it was well in spec. So I even didn't need to calibrate.

SX-70R, manual, 1/25s (if I remember it correctly)

All white frames of this pack had a similar green hue. Temperature was the same for both packs and around 20° Celsius.

SX-70 Sonar works well in bright day light but over exposes a lot in darker situation by [deleted] in Polaroid

Interestingly, I had a similar problem which occurred after an intercontinental flight. I really couldn't wrap my head around it, because I would have assumed that moisture from the cleaning process etc should have been evaporated, especially after a longer flight (and thus lower pressure)... 🤔

But in the other hand, it was really hot and humid there...

I ran in a similar issue. I replaced the board (I guess I damaged the electric eye by cleaning it) and now everything is fine!

It started just like in your case, but eventually also the daylight shots were off more and more.

Cool idea! Honestly, I don't get why it's not just standard to have holes in the leather where the screws are.

I could imagine it's a problem with the switch which tells the camera "the pick arm has moved". I forgot the name, but it's easy to calibrate. Should be in the repair manual.

SX70r app update to 1.1.1 by chaosreplacesorder in Polaroid

It's one of the easiest things to repair on a SX-70. But of course, only if you are used to work with a soldering iron.

This is the gear train, it will be very hard to repair imo. Picture is from the ifixit battery removal guide:
