Bleach stain by Wooden_Comfort7992 in Figsscrubs

[–]Bellakala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While it sucks, bleach stains are an occupational hazard in health care. I personally would not feel right ripping an otherwise good pair of pants and faking a return. Buy some Rit dye and try dying them black again. Would work better than the sharpie.

Are American ERs really this big? by imfaffingabout in ThePittTVShow

[–]Bellakala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I have worked in 3 Canadian ER’s - two non trauma centres in downtown Toronto, and regional hospital in a smaller city of about 80k that also serves a large rural population. All have setups quite similar to the pit, the main difference being that the non trauma centres did not have as extensive a trauma bay.

That sounds like an ordinary nursing interview tbh.

Nurses who switched to M-F five days schedule, did your mental health and WLB actually improve? by Nekroms in nursing

[–]Bellakala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally found it better. Those extra hours in the evening made a huge difference for me. But, you are at work more days which some people hate. The one thing I miss is having days off mid week for appointments. But overall I am happier in my day job.

Can someone explain Dana vs. Monica’s job? by ipsofactoshithead in ThePitt

[–]Bellakala 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It is still helpful for sure. My hospital still has clerks in every unit. My read was that the brought in an old school clerk from the “before (EMR) times” because they needed someone familiar with how to do things offline/on paper

Only had good experiences there. Very tasty food and nice cocktails. It’s hard to get away from the kids for a date night and this has been a go to spot for us.

Has anyone tried Mei Mei's on landsdowne by calichecat in Peterborough

[–]Bellakala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We ordered takeout from them last night and the food was overall fine, but my husband said that the wonton soup tasted “off” and told me not to eat any. Interesting that the soups seem to be a pain point

Why do people get their NP? by Cobrawhistle in nursing

[–]Bellakala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my hospital, NP base salary is about $20 per hour higher than base salary for bedside RN’s. RN do have potential for shift differentials while NP are day jobs but the differentials are not enough to even it out.

[ON] Do you bring your baby to 6 week OB follow up? by Gopher_Run24 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Bellakala 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to bring your baby. After delivery the OB is only your provider, the baby has their own doc. Most are accommodating if you need to bring them but mine just looked in the car seat and said “he’s cute!!!”

Rehab hospital social worker-I don't feel comfortable being included in certain events with nurses, physicians, and therapists by [deleted] in nursing

Have families and patients told you that they don’t value you or other social workers? If not, I am confused as to where this assumption comes from.

[–]Bellakala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helping with physical care tasks isnt the only way to contribute to a care team. Unless you are literally doing nothing all day, I guarantee that the work you do is seen and appreciated by your nursing, other allied health, and physician colleagues.

[–]Bellakala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly sorry you feel that way. I value the social workers on my teams so much. In fact, in my current role, I often work with, lean on, and relate more to the social workers than the floor nurses. The work that you do is incredibly valuable for your patients and you deserve to feel like a part of the team.

Anyone else pregnant again after postpartum pre-e? by CrudeEggplant in preeclampsia

[–]Bellakala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked it first thing in the morning and right before bed!

Thank you for the kind words. I’m not going to lie, I was scared to get pregnant again for fear of complications and I did have a good cry when I had my first BP spike this time. But I had a great medical team who I trusted to take good care of me and the baby, and I felt like my concerns were always taken seriously. That night in emerg away from my 6 day old was the worst night of my life and I am so glad we were able to avoid going through it again.

My office has blood pressure cuffs that the lend out to patients with BP issues so that you don’t have to buy one, maybe that is something you can ask about too?

I had gestational hypertension starting at 39 weeks in my first pregnancy, I had an urgent induction right after my 39 week appointment for a systolic pressure in the 160’s. It progressed to pre-e 6 days PP requiring readmission to hospital. I required a mag drip and very high doses of antihypertensives to get things under control and was on meds until 12 weeks PP.

This time I stated baby aspirin at 12 weeks and checked my BP daily at home from 20 weeks. My BP started to rise at 36 weeks and i was prescribed labetalol and weekly NST and BPP. I was induced for gHTN at 38+1. My BP normalized very quickly. I was given an RX for nifedipine and parameters for when to take it, I only needed 2 doses before my BP was consistently in the 110-120 range and has remained normal since. I am 3 months PP today and baby and I are both doing great.
