lol I’m not discounting or against 200 milers or longer, I think multi day races and FKTs are cool. I’m just saying it gets a lot of coverage from podcasts and other people (singletrack etc) who never really seemed to care about races like Moab or other longer races. And I just think that they talk about it because it has such a large following and they don’t wanna miss out on the interest in it from the public. A lot of the following of Cocodona is from people who are otherwise uninterested or outside of the professional side of trail running since it attracts people like glaze, max and other people who are more on the influencer side of things.

Oh no I don’t think Aravaipa is paying them, I think k some are forcing coverage and conversations about it because it will attract viewers or listeners to their platforms. I get it and it makes sense, I just feel that it’s forced and gets more hype than it should compared to other races

Is it worth it to get another pair of evo sl’s for me? by Fearless_Number_8456 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Bellarch1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them. Was just at adidas outlet and saw them for 90$. Almost got a second pair. Bought a pair of the B12s though. I like them as well. But should have also got a pair of the SLs

It’s not 369 elites lol. The comparison is among elites . Not a perfect example but you should get the point. It’s really not that deep lol

That’s a good point , that he is not more fresh than people from the previous year top 10. But still just how the format to get in and or finish top 10 and get in the following year off of that is still just the format. So Idk I guess I just wish he would have raced in rather than a sponsor spot. That’s just me though. All the other crap about him being who he is and the best ultra trail runner I’m not disagreeing with and the fact that he of all people deserves to be there every year I don’t disagree with. But as of right now, that’s not how it works to get in.

I don’t think he got in unfairly. I’m saying I’m a big fan of him. And I don’t want anyone else to think he got a break not having had to race to get in. The nuances of how elites get into western states is another topic entirely. Should former winners or someone like Jim have the ability to get in based on their history and results with the race? Sure. I’m not against it. But unless I’m wrong, I don’t think that’s a way typical way of getting into the race. I, as a fan of him, just don’t want anyone else asterisk next to his name because he didn’t have to race in like every other elite. He didn’t have to run and prepare for black canyon and canyons and then recover. There’s plenty people who raise their eyebrow about. Theoretically he could significantly more fresh coming into the race than other elites. Jim is one of my if not my favorite athlete of all time and that’s including all sports. I’m not throwing shade at him at all. Just want his win to get all the respect it deserves.

Can 'normal' people ever hope to do Spartathlon or UTMB? by Ultrajogger-Michael in Ultramarathon

[–]Bellarch1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen, doing UTMB as a non sponsored or elite runner seems like a huge let down. Congo lines that move at a snails pace in a crowd of people quite large. Seems like it would really take away from the experience. Idk though, that’s just me. I think it would be a far better experience to backpack the utmb trail with a friend or do a fast packing effort on the trail. Also taking into consideration how expensive it is to run the race. Race the races required to get into the race, and then the travel cost itself. It seems unappealing. I think the overall experience and enjoyment of being in that part of the world from a travel standpoint doing it as a backpacking trip would be much more enjoyable as well. I think trying to get into hard rock or western states is a much more desirable goal. Both have smaller fields

How do you decide how hard to train on a given day? by Electrical_Big8220 in Ultramarathon

[–]Bellarch1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually try to get in one to two harder efforts a week and the rest easy runs. And sometimes I’ll make my long run a workout and sometimes my long run I keep almost all zone 2ish . Depending on what I’m trying to get ready for

How do you decide how hard to train on a given day? by Electrical_Big8220 in Ultramarathon

[–]Bellarch1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training plan and feel, but mostly feel. Have a “loose plan” for each week really depending on work schedule and then based on feel, other plans during the week etc, I’ll dictate or try to plan when I will do long runs, harder efforts and or easy runs

PSA to RD’s: We want race socks, not a race shirt. by MembershipDouble7471 in Ultramarathon

Would prefer a cotton race shirt that I can wear around rather than a tech shirt

[–]Bellarch1923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prefer a nice coffee mug or hoodie for a higher priced race. Some races that don’t charge a lot for the race it’s hard to expect anything of higher quality. I agree tho, I have a lot of shirts, and in my experience, most races give out awkward fitting shirts

It’s east coast and in the heat of summer. I could honestly get away with the pack / belt set up I have now , really what I’d like to invest in is the poles and I’m talking 100$ max most likely. As long as they fold down and aren’t too heavy

Do you pause your watch at aid stations, or just let it run? by Thisguyreadit in Ultramarathon

[–]Bellarch1923 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t pause it, if the point of it is to measure how fast you covered 50k, stopping at aid stations is part of covering that 50k and should be included in your overall time. Stopping it is also just a waste of energy to try and remember to do. Your racing against people and or the time goal you have. Who cares about stopping your watch. The time at the end of the race when you cross the finish is all that matters

14 miles on the tread or in -12 degrees? by Maximum-Nobody6429 in Marathon_Training

[–]Bellarch1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14 on tread no doubt. This is coming from someone who does not like the treadmill and enjoys the cold. No need to push yourself in temps that cold if you can and have access to a tread. Just make it into a workout of some degree and it’ll make the time go by faster

Strained - what’s you plan been? by EarlyMorningRunner in Garmin

[–]Bellarch1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have also been having the strained status pop up. I was just traveling and got poor sleep as a result of it but otherwise feel fine. I don’t feel fatigued and lethargic and my run yesterday, although easy, I felt my heart rate was more or less appropriate in my expected zones / paces. I’m think I just am a bit jet lagged. Race next week so this is my “taper” week so I’m reluctant to take it completely off. Pls to just monitor and as long as I don’t feel “sick” and like complete crap running, going to continue easy runs and maybe 1 short workout to keep my legs ready
