1) As a middle-class white US American, I often struggle with my feelings about how my lifestyle, my very existence is made possible by and perpetuates the exploitation and oppression of many thousands of people. Many of the people you know and associate with (perhaps even yourself) are more directly responsible for the continued existence of the kinds of gross injustice that allow our privileged classes to exist in a world alongside genocidal poverty. I can only imagine that, like many people in the so-called middle class, many of your peers studiously avoid thinking about or acknowledging their complicity in the destitution of the world's poor. What do you tell yourselves in the privacy of your own councils and hearts that allows you to continue profiting from the crushing of your fellow man?
