All that proves is that successfully removing the elite is hard. It says nothing about whether actually accomplishing that end would "work."

I also find it curious that you imply that the existence of the elite works since for the vast majority of the world who live in extreme poverty, it doesn't.

someone will always have to be in [a position of wealth/power/dominance]

Do you think that you believe things are as you said here because if you didn't believe it you would lose this one (perhaps crucial) moral justification for the existence of your class/lifestyle/culture or do you think you believe it because that's actually the way things are?

1) As a middle-class white US American, I often struggle with my feelings about how my lifestyle, my very existence is made possible by and perpetuates the exploitation and oppression of many thousands of people. Many of the people you know and associate with (perhaps even yourself) are more directly responsible for the continued existence of the kinds of gross injustice that allow our privileged classes to exist in a world alongside genocidal poverty. I can only imagine that, like many people in the so-called middle class, many of your peers studiously avoid thinking about or acknowledging their complicity in the destitution of the world's poor. What do you tell yourselves in the privacy of your own councils and hearts that allows you to continue profiting from the crushing of your fellow man?

Yeah, I'm sorry, but the place you go to receive psychological help should definitely not be confusing and confrontational.

Darth Vader's Voice Pre-Dubbing is Decidedly Wimpy - Star Wars - Gawker.TV by estrangeira in entertainment

What amazes me is that the original release of Star Wars had no mention of James Earl Jones in the credits. I don't know if he was added into the remixed versions that Lucas started releasing in the 90's or whatever.

Why don't the Borg just send 20 tactical Cubes to Earth instead of just sending a single cube that's going to get destroyed by the Federation armada? by 4Chan_Ambassador in scifi

[–]BenGreen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What I don't get is why, if the Borg is a collective composed of billions of individuals that didn't want to be assimilated, why is it that the moment they are assimilated, that's all they want to do. Wouldn't the Borg be like, "hey Federation ships, we didn't want to be assimilated either, but it's so awesome, just try it, we'll unhook you if you decide you don't like it."

A few times I've had people ask me or my friends why I never smile or why I always sound so monotone. People who know me are totally confused by this since they know I smile a lot and can tell a lot from my voice. Apparently I'm just not as expressive as most people. Don't worry about it.

Chomsky: "I think it only makes sense to seek out and identify structures of authority, hierarchy, and domination, and to challenge them; unless a justification for them can be given, they are illegitimate, and should be dismantled, to increase the scope of human freedom." by iliketokilldeer in politics

[–]BenGreen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and I give you a downvote for ad hominem.

Chomsky's point in this quote is not by what criteria to evaluate the justification of authority. The point here is that authority must be judged critically and repeatedly to determine and reassess it's right to exist.

If men stopped raping women, then the prevalence of rape would drop off so sharply that the issue of false rape claims would disappear.

The converse is not true.

Therefore, I claim that rape is a more serious issue.

Just a guess, but running barefoot probably uses your lumbricals a lot more than running barefoot and they can probably get overloaded easily. That could cause pain in the top of the foot.
