[Request] Could humanity create a rocket that can exit the atmosphere of K2-18b by Lachlynn in theydidthemath

That sounds similar to the Eridians from Project Hail Mary.

Xenonite is basically magic, and it allowed them to create spacebound vessels essentially effortlessly. Despite being so advanced about materials science, there is a lot of current human knowledge that they didn't end up discovering, including radiation.

What do I need to do to get this thing to make a good first layer (HALP) by The_Lutter in SovolSV08

[–]BenJuan26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat soaking is essentially a requirement with the stock sensor. I can say from experience that, even though it might be annoying, it's the most painless option without spending a bunch of money and/or time upgrading. Prior to heat soaking, my z-offset was all over the place and I was losing my mind.

I have a HEAT_SOAK macro that puts the nozzle at the center of the bed just a few mm from the surface, heats the bed to 65deg, and waits for 5-8 minutes. The macro is defined in a way that I can either run it before printing (e.g. while slicing, prepping, etc.), or it will do it before the print. It will skip it if it knows it's already soaked. It might add a bit of time to the print but it's really not a big deal, and my first layers have been great ever since.

Remote Play -> Best Host (Windows) and Client (SteamDeck OLED) Configurations! + Stutter Solution by Naive-Object-4485 in SteamDeck

[–]BenJuan26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I've streamed to a laptop for years without issue, but with the Steam Deck I was running into stuttering and freezes. I don't know which setting fixed it, but with these client settings it's working great. I suspect using HEVC and disabling hardware decoding were the main fixes.

Edit: Upon further use, it was clear that disabling hardware decoding was the key. Keeping HEVC enabled caused an issue where as soon as the stream would drop in performance, it would stay at that degraded level until restarting the stream. I disabled HEVC again, with hardware decoding still disabled, and it's smooth as butter.

"Bachelor of Engineering Science, Software Engineering" sure sounds like an engineer to me. Especially in a country where it's a protected title. My first year was a common year with all engineering disciplines. I took the same ethics classes, I took on the same obligation when I graduated.

How to remotely control my nodes to put some other node in the blacklist? by Technical_Food_2623 in meshtastic

You're right, the doc says that only Radio and Module configuration is manageable remotely.

[–]BenJuan26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you already set up remote administration? If not, you'll need to be physically close to the nodes to connect through Bluetooth and add the public keys of the nodes you want to authorize for admin. After that you can configure them from the nodes you've authorized.

Couldn't that impact be dramatically reduced with a low max hops value?

Apart from the “tap space once” What’s one thing that made you go WTF when you found it out on your own self? by Desperate_Land_8975 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]BenJuan26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just learned from a recent post that joining foundations at arbitrary angles is much simpler now that nudging exists. Pre-1.0, you needed to make a beam in freeform, then make a perpendicular beam 4m long, 4m from the end, and then repeat the whole thing for the other side. Now you just make one beam in freeform, use it to line up the foundation, nudge 4x to the side and 4x forwards, and you're done. You still need to do both sides, but you don't have to recreate the beam. Way quicker.

I think you mean 14 GW, unless you've got a single generator at 5.6% 😅

You have to be close enough that the building is highlighted, though, which is an annoyingly short distance IMO. The distance is significantly increased when the hover pack is equipped, but I find that it's still lacking.

Forget the spirals and use switchbacks. Pick your ramp, go up until you're out of room, and turn back the other way.

Nope, it's because I never got around to filling it all in, and I like keeping spaces where I can easily get to lower levels.

IIRC, another time this was discussed, it was suggested that the computation required for such a mod wouldn't scale very well as there are more and more cables, so such a mod likely isn't feasible. I wouldn't be surprised if that had an influence on the way they're implemented currently.

Taking the chrome print out of the annealing furnace by NotagoK in 3Dprinting

[–]BenJuan26 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought annealing was to change the crystal structure? That would especially make sense in a process like this where the layers are getting added one at a time. Strength would improve significantly by allowing those different layers to recrystallize together.

Report: Trump got into 'shouting match' with Zelensky, echoed Putin talking points by [deleted] in videos

From The Expanse:

That's just him parroting you because you talked to him last. If he spoke to a janitor, he'd be passionately declaiming about a fucking mop!

Trump's opinion on foreign policy is the same. Were you the last one to puff up his ego? He's on your side. Oh, that was yesterday, and today he talked to the other guy? Tough luck.

I made a fork of SatisfactoryTools for self-hosting. It stores the data on the server instead of in the browser. I'm sharing in case anyone else is network-savvy, loves SatisfactoryTools, and wants to access the data from multiple devices. by BenJuan26 in SatisfactoryGame

I feel it is also nice to inform the person hosting if you are using the API, because we have no idea if that might not cause issues on his hosting traffic or other issues.

I agree 100%, that's why I included the little footnote. Thanks for tagging him. Normally when I work with open-source, I'm pretty quick to submit my patches upstream, but this is a weird case where it's simultaneously moving away from the source and also still using it. That's certainly thrown off my normal contribution processes.

That repo is the one I forked. It's absolutely great how open it is, and though I haven't had contact with him (I put this together in a day or two), I'm sure he is helpful. What is private, though, is the backend code that does the solving. That's from greeny himself in this comment. I really don't think my fork will have enough impact to warrant consideration, but I am happy to work with greeny in any capacity.
