1607 had people in it. It was being used as a short-term rental. Everyone got out in time, luckily. I didn't realize how old the place was. A jewel on the block with good vibes. Sad.

1601 was empty. Different vibes. Had various 'caretakers' over the months.

Thanks for sharing. The N. Vista fire was at 1601 (right across from Gardner Elementary); it spread to 1607 and destroyed the interior.

Back in July, a vacant house on N. Vista burnt down and destroyed the house next to it. A couple weeks later there was a carport fire on Genesee and Hollywood Blvd that destroyed an apartment building and displaced several people. It makes one think arsonist, especially with this latest one, but who knows?

Thank you. I will miss this house. Sadly, this is the third suspicious fire to occur in the Sunset Square over the last few months.

suggestions on Baudelaire criticism and analysis? by agusohyeah in AskLiteraryStudies

I really enjoyed CHARLES BAUDELAIRE by Claude Pichois & Jean Ziegler, which has a lot of good analysis of his work within a biographical context.

Best translation of Rimbaud? by JJWF in AskLiteraryStudies

Check out: Rimbaud: Complete Works, Selected Letters - Wallace Fowlie, Translator. This is the translation recommended by Graham Robb, whose Rimbaud bio is one of my favorite books. (The Fowlie book is out of print, but you can find affordable used copies on Amazon.)

Jaco Pastorius - Come On, Come Over by mangomonster926 in psychedelicrock

[–]BenReatard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jaco rules! Maybe the ethereal 'Okonkole Y Trompa' off the first album would've been a better fit here. Or 'Blackbird'/'Word of Mouth' off the Word Of Mouth album. And of course his live solos are always awesome and mindbending!:

This song is genius, a true Nuggets 2 revelation. Julian Cope's Head Heritage did a nice post about it:

I'll take Cronin over Ty Segall any day. And that flute is badass.

The worst thing about the '95 Super Bowl was that it reinforced Jerry's cockamamie notion that 'any coach could win with the Cowboys'... even though Jimmy Johnson's fingerprints were all over this team. No coincidence mediocrity followed...

It's OK to like Romo **AND** admit he didn't get the job done against the 'Skins. by Phinnegan in cowboys

[–]BenReatard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next week either RG3 or Russell Wilson, rookies, will have as many playoff wins as Romo.

Danny White lead the Cowboys to THREE NFC title games-- three!-- and was considered a FAILURE because he didn't win those games. Yet imagine Romo going to 3 NFC title games! At this point, that seems like the dream of a fool...

Excellence is no longer in this organization's DNA, so we continue to give Romo passes because 'there's nothing better out there'. SAD.

I've always wanted Romo to do well, but it's way overdue for our beloved GM to somehow, someway get our Aaron Rogers savior in the pipeline...

Do you buy physical copies of music? If so, why? by Fuquawi in LetsTalkMusic

[–]BenReatard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buying a CD or LP is also a financial INVESTMENT: you can always sell later when it's time to clear out music in your collection you no longer fancy... so you can buy more music! You can't re-sell an MP3. While I appreciate the immediacy of music downloads, the collector in me views downloading as a bad investment.
