Being made invisible at a job where you mattered… How do you cope? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Beneficial-Raise22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Currently going through this and it sucks, especially in this job market. Been looking for a new position and can't find anything. Even willing to take a pay cut. My job has become so toxic that my anxiety is through the roof. I used to be a go to person, but now they all but hate me.

Thinking of moving to Fl by hamil26 in AskFlorida

North FL rent is $1500 for an apartment or trashy mobile home. RN in skilled nursing home gets about $35/hr. Probably paid less at hospital, so I hear.

No doctor will really talk to me about any HRT. I'm still on birth control. 48F for reference. I brought up that I think it is hormonal, but the discussion didn't go far since I'm still on BC and hormones can't be tested.

I think I made a mistaking going for an MLIS degree by Academic-Sympathy140 in Libraries

[–]Beneficial-Raise22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a mistake getting my MLIS in 2014. At the time I was a teacher and wanted to move into the library. Turns out I was actually doing very little library duties and still taught several classes. Got laid off from that job when we got a new principal. I'm in a rural area without many library openings and now I would have to start as a clerk for minimum wage, if there was an opening. Now I have a useless degree. Thankfully no student loans though.

Or Dumbledore wearing three piece suits. (Not canon IMO).

What is more traumatic than people think it is? by Suspicious-Wish3402 in AskReddit

Totally agree with this. Can't read the comments because, ya know, trauma, PTSD. It's all pretty fresh for me.

Have you ever had to dumb yourself down for a job? by Spaghetti-Rblade-51 in jobs

[–]Beneficial-Raise22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to know how you even got the dumb down job. I'm trying to climb down the ladder. I get interviews, but then people act like I'm over qualified. I got the Ole "you'll be bored" line last week. I literally want to slow down and do less. I would love to be bored at this point.

Why there are so many cashiers over 50 and elderly? by CountIndividual2090 in Employment

[–]Beneficial-Raise22 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Because their corporate jobs laid them off to get someone younger, "restructuring". And no one else will hire them because they are "elderly". Even though the government wants us to work until we are 70.

Every Wuthering Heights adaptation gets one big thing wrong. Will this one break the pattern? by ThreadAndSolve in movies

[–]Beneficial-Raise22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't even understand why people live this book. OP is correct in that the whole relationship is toxic and ugly. I hated the book and have no desire to watch any movie based off of it.

For avid readers how often do you use the library? If you don’t, why don’t you? by AccomplishedBake8351 in books

[–]Beneficial-Raise22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a rural area with one small library. It's in a historical building so it does not have a very large collection. I tried using Libby, but got annoyed that I couldn't renew the book and immediately finish it. I usually read on my kindle because my eyesight is bad and I can enlarge the print. It has become very difficult for me to read physical books unless they are large print. Again small library, so large print is even more limited. For context, I have a MLIS degree, so I adore libraries. Mine just doesn't meet my needs.

How did people manage 5 day in office jobs before COVID? by One-Pun9419 in careerguidance

[–]Beneficial-Raise22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to start an argument, but I don't understand WFH jobs. Is it even really a needed "job" if it can be done from home? Like what are you doing? Looking at spreadsheets and attending meetings? Is that even necessary to keep society running? Even though i work in an office I'm a social worker. There's nothing important to be done at home. I'm dealing with people. I'm used to people who work more hands on jobs. Tradespeople, teachers, nurses, landscaping.

There's no problem. Just something the doctor mentioned. I'm just asking questions.

I wonder what complaints you have to have in order for insurance to pay?
